Super smooth coffee porter, with a nice smooth balance. Coffee flavor itself has a very nice medium roast quality. The 9.2 ABV could easily get lost here. This is my first offering from Kane's and I am eager to try more.

I had this on draught at Echo Tap & Grille in Mountainside NJ. 12 oz. pour served in a tulip glass. It pours virtually jet black with 1+ fingers of foamy head and lacing, the color of which is something between khaki and mocha. The lacing coated the glass and had excellent retention. It features a fragrant aroma of freshly brewed coffee, cocoa, toffee, and roasted malt. the taste is sublime: like a cup of freshly brewed, black coffee but with a creamy, milk chocolate finish and a hint of nuts. There is none of the bitterness at the finish that often characterizes coffee porters. The feel is delightful: although it's a porter, it has the creamy viscosity of a stout, with pleasant carbonation. It also drinks a lot smoother than its 9.2% ABV would indicate. It's deceptively potent. Overall, Morning Bell is superb in every respect and it richly deserves its Outstanding rating. Kane again proves its mettle at brewing porters and stouts. It's a shame Morning Bell is released so infrequently in bottles but at least those of us in the area can enjoy it on draught.

Dark, dark brown with a brown, foamy head that dissipates quickly. Smells like coffee and roasty. Flavor is coffee, quite sweet, milk and vanilla. There is a warming alcohol taste at the very end. Medium-heavy body, very creamy, leaves almost a residue in your mouth.

750ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a dark cola brown body, opaque and nearly black. One finger mocha head, short retention time, bits of lacing stubbornly sticks to the glass. Big roasted coffee aroma with a definite lactose sweetness behind it, but overall the coffee is the big player here. Milk chocolate, light roasted barley, touch of dark fruit. Flavour is a heavy cold brew-like coffee sweetness with a dollop of cream, roasted malt, milk chocolate and a bitter earthy finish. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, appropriate level of carbonation. Plenty of coffee on the finish. I've recently got into cold brews and this has a similar level of coffee flavour, which of course is a ton of it.

Got this one from Fahmie25 in a recent box. Thanks for the swap!

From a 750 into a snifter
Imperial Milk Porter with Sumatra dark roast coffee
Collaboration with rook coffee

APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy tan head with great retention. Clear black body with medium carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a thick foamy cap and clings to the glass as it fades. Faint wisp remains leaving some good lacing down the glass. Darker than you’d expect for a porter but that’s my bag.

SMELL: Lots of roasted coffee on the nose, with sweet cream, vanilla and milk chocolate as well. The lactose is definitely there. Roasted notes, with hints of caramel and butterscotch as well. Bold enough. Nice stuff.

TASTE: Lots of nice, creamy roasted coffee, sweet vanilla cream, butterscotch and milk chocolate up front. Flavorful for sure. More roasted coffee, cream and milk sugars at the swallow with a bold and lingering finish of roasted malts, milk chocolate, sweet vanilla and lactose, butterscotch, dark roasted coffee and a slight touch of alcohol as well. Some nice bitterness lingers as well. Really creamy and well balanced, with the coffee putting all the right notes in all the right places.

PALATE: Medium body and very creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a touch sticky. A slight scratch at the swallow and some bitterness lingers. Good stuff here.

OVERALL: This is an all-around quality imperial coffee porter. It looks more like stout and drinks more like one too, as it is generally more roasted and heavier than a 9% porter might be. Regardless, the coffee is done really well and ties everything together while the base milk porter has plenty of character of its own. Really good and well worth a shot if you find yourself with the chance. Thanks again Fahmie25. This was quality.
