Traded for this a while ago with a good friend and finally got around to it today after yet another underwhelming night at work. I love Kane's bottled beers and this continued along the trend set by favorites like ANTEAD, as this was dark, rich, and enjoyable from start to finish; even as it warmed up during my session.

Loved the raisin hue to this as the beer poured quite dark with a finely bubbled and tall khaki head that contrasted quite nicely with the dark liquid below it. Not a strong aroma to this but there was lots of plum, cherry, and raisin to be found here with all of those being more pronounced in the taste. Lots of dark break gave this body while there were hints of berry juice, milk chocolate, Belgian yeast, and booze to add some warm and inviting depth. Dark and introspective, this beer had all the good qualities of a Belgian beer as the funk, yeast, and potent characteristics were all here. A subtly slick mouthfeel and brandy-like aftertaste rounded things out as this never felt too heavy when it came to the body.

Had I not seen the actual ABV, I would have guessed that this this was stronger than it turned out to be. It felt that way as this had a nice warming effect on me once I finished the bottle off. A mild amount of carbonation allowed the alcohol and fruit flavors to linger as the bitterness was quite muted. This was one of those beers I enjoyed drinking alone in a prolonged session, proving that this was appropriately named. Easily one of Kane's better offerings and worthy of being in their rotation.

Appearance: dark brown in color with a 1/2" head that falls to a thin surface covering that lasts.

Smell: bread, plums, and a hint of chocolate are picked up by the nose.

Taste: dark bread, plums, raisins, cherries, spicy Belgian yeast, and some alcohol. Bitterness levels balance out the sweetness.

Mouthfeel: heavy in body. Lightly crisp throughout with some dryness arriving late.

Overall: a really good Belgian ale which for me is a souped up Dubbel. Slow sipping but satisfying.

750 mL bottle purchased at brewery 2/4/17. Poured into Belgian ale glass.

L: Dark brown but not completely dark, sort of a chestnut with deep red edges. 2F head not a lot of retention, but a cap and ring.

S: Roasted malts and dried pit fruits carry the day here. Quite good.

T: Follows nose, but a decidedly chocolate element slips in midway and carries to finish. Neutral finish, less candi malt, which I like.

F: Medium body, light carbonation. Good construction, but balance runs away towards the bitter/sour at the end. Maybe could tighten that up a bit.

O: Solid new regular entry for Kane, though if they could swap Mysterioso 47 for this, I would be even happier.

Poured from 750 ML bottle into Kane tulip glass. It pours a dark mahogany with ruby hues when held to the light, and an enormous, light khaki colored head and lacing with great retention. It smells of plum, dark cherry, burnt coffee, and a whiff of tobacco smoke. It's full of dark fruit: raisin, plum, and cherry, along with some nice chocolate in mid-sip, and some subtle spice at the finish. It has a chocolate covered cherry quality. As the glass warmed, I tasted more of the smoke. This ale has a creamy mouth feel with lively carbonation. The label shows an ABV of 9.2% which gives it a nice potency without being overtly boozy. Overall, this is a nicely crafted and tasty Belgian Ale. The chocolate gives it a unique taste and makes it ideal as a dessert beer. It would also pair well with a hearty meal.

Look - Dark red/amber in color
Smell - Tons of sweet dark fruits on the nose. Plums, cherries, toffee, raisins
Taste - Follows the nose perfectly. Basically tastes like plum/prune juice. The 9.8% is so well hidden.

Overall - A very tasty Belgian Strong Ale from Kane.
