Got this one from Fahmie25 in a recent box. Thanks for the swap!

From a 750 into a snifter
Imperial Milk Porter with Sumatra dark roast coffee. Doesn’t say what kind of barrels.
Collaboration with rook coffee

APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, fizzy, somewhat foamy tan head with decent retention. This is a noisy one. Clear black body with medium carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full creamy cap. A faint wisp remains leaving some good lacing down the glass. Darker than you’d expect for a porter, much like the base, but the head on this one isn’t as impressive.

SMELL: Lots of the base beer is there for sure, with sweet cream, vanilla, milk chocolate, and piles of roasted coffee over it all. Butterscotch for sure with perhaps the slightest hint of whisky in there underneath. This is all good stuff but the barrel is somewhat muted.

TASTE: The barrel comes out much more in the flavor and mouthfeel. There’s some definite whisky character up front, with oak, sweet cream, vanilla and milk chocolate there as well. The coffee is there but comes out more at the swallow, accompanying more oak and whisky notes. The aftertaste is bold and very nicely balanced with butterscotch, sweet vanilla cream, lactose sugar and milk chocolate, a mild but present lace of whisky and booze, and some very nice bitter, roasted coffee tying it all together. This is still a coffee stout first and a barrel aged stout second. Sorry. Barrel aged porter.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly foamy on the palate. Not as creamy as the base beer. Goes down fine with a bit of a slight scratch at the swallow and finishes a bit sticky. A bit of alcohol and bitterness linger.

OVERALL: This is great! I don’t find it to be all that distinguished from the base beer, as this is definitely still a coffee stout first and the barrel aging has only imparted minor changes here, but to be honest, since the base beer is so good, this didn’t have to be barrel aged to death. The only down side is that the time in the barrels has perhaps thinned the feel a bit and it’s come out pricklier than the non-barreled version. Regardless, this is tasty stuff and the coffee addition works great with the sweet milk stout base, while the barrel aging has added a hint of extra fun to it. Definitely something worth checking out if you get the chance. Thanks again Fahmie25!

Nothing much appearance wise. Dark brown/light black color very minimal head with a semi vigorous pour. All that remains is a ring of carb where the beer meets the glass.

Aroma rich chocolate and coffee with a kiss of booze from the bourbon. It definitely has some oak wood smell to it as well.

Taste is very rich and full it tastes like a very strong coffee with a touch of milk and a shot of bourbon. The bourbon is pretty prominent in this one.

Mouthfeel is medium to full but it has a creamy body from the lactose I’m guessing. Carbonation is appropriate for the style. Considering how much bourbon I taste and smell I’m surprised at how smooth this goes down.

Bottle to snifter.

super smooth and very nice. ahhh, Rook and Kane, a match made in heaven in yet another variant. So much love for these "Bell and Brunch" series of beers. This is no exception, but I feel that while the bourbon blends in very well with the coffee, there is something more attractive about the simple coffee porter in this particular case.

LOOK: black color, medium thick look, creamy tan head. Very good retention. Lots of legs on the glass.

AROMA: Coffee first, as it should be, bourbon and wood are present next, but not overpowering; a nice smooth cocoa aroma finishes out this sampling.

TASTE: Bourbon and raisin and wood, come in here more so than in the aroma.

FEEL: smooth sippin' , mildly creamy and smooth porter, hint of carbonation. Thickness=7/10.

Great effort. Can't wait to try the other version aged with coffee beans.

Deep brown, full-bodied feel. At first, a strong bourbon barrel lead in transforms nicely with a roasted coffee aftertaste. Upon warming, the strong bourbon flavor overwhelms any hint of coffee, leaving a one note taste.

On tap at EBF in Boston, MA.

This one pours a fairly dark black, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like rich roasty coffee, some nuttiness, chocolate, bourbon, and oak.

All of these so-called porters from Kane are just amazing. This has a killer vanilla character from the barrel, with oak, and roasty coffee. There's some deep sweet chocolate too. It's all so well integrated.

This is medium bodied, rich, silky and creamy, with a normal level of carbonation.

Kane continues to floor me. They're easily a top brewery in the country.
