The wife and I were waiting for a table at Poole’s Downtown Diner and we walked around the ‘hood. Painfully cool area. Tasty Beverage is just past Crank Arm Brewing, in a refurbished train depot and around the corner from the outrageous Videri chocolate company. Lots of bars and fun around.

The place is small but packed with goodies. First the bottle shop and then the bar, with some crazy drafts like Sexual Chocolate and Hebrew Jewbelation ’13. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is convivial.

The bottle shop is to die for. Too many goodies and rarities to even make sense of it all… lots of Prairie, tons of Belgian brews, a good amount of Bruery, all the North Carolina beers you can imagine and the most outrageous selection of Harvest Ale ever. Reasonable prices, cold beer, good people. I want to marry this place and move in.

Nice selection of drafts to enjoy while bottle shopping. The space is small, but laid out well. The staff could not be nicer, they were very helpful and knowledgeable. It's right beside Crank Arm Brewing, so hit that when you're in the area. Great little bottle shop that I'll definitely visit again. Cheers!

Checked out this store while visiting relatives in the area. The high rating is well-deserved. Cool location and an open, modern feel. The employees were friendly, knowledgeable and willing to give recommendations. The beers seemed well-handled. Great selection of North Carolina beers and a wide range of other selections from around the world. I saw many high-end California brewers like The Bruery represented at fair prices, so I assume the NC beers were also fairly priced. It is a fairly small place, which is the only reason I did not rate "Selection" higher. The selection they did have was well-curated and impressive.

I recently ventured here for the first time and was not disappointed. I walked in and was greeted by an incredibly vast selection of bottled beers. I decided to try one of the drafts they offered, it was difficult to pick which to try, they all seemed like they'd be very good and I had never seen or tried any of them at other places. The beer I had selected was delicious. The service was great and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Overall I had a very enjoyable time here and plan to go again.

Quality of the beer and huge selection is why I'd say this place needs to be checked out. Prices were, to me, really reasonable as well. I found a few things that sold out in my area long ago (in from VA) and were considerably cheaper - $15 for Blushing Monk vs. $18 or $19 around home for instance. Nice items on tap and a place that will let you open any bottle sold in the store to have there while you shop. I like that.

I definitely got the feeling that they were very busy even though it was not crowded at all. I felt like asking a question or two made me feel like a burden so I really just went with what I knew I wanted without asking or branching out. Just not exactly what I'm used to if I'm spending $100+ on a shop visit.

Prices were great, selection was great, service at the bar in serving beer was great. Would have been nice if someone offered to help me navigate the store a bit better - that's all.

I had stopped here several years ago when I was in town for business. I was in town again today and made a co-worker who was travelling with me stop to pick up some bottles for the trip.

The selection was well organized and extremely easy to search. More importantly, when I asked for recommendations, the guy who was helping us was awesome. He pulled 5 beers that I have not had and 3 of them so far are really good. I appreciate going to a place and having someone know their inventory well enough to provide some suggestions. Selection was very impressive especially because I was from out of town and did not have access to some of the options here. Great belgian and sours selection.

I have been to, and with, Tasty Bev since they first opened their door in the Raleigh warehouse district. Since then I pretty much have all my BA and Untappd check-ins here. The guys that owns and manage this little shop are top notch. The selection is great, and they are alway on top of the releases and trend. The greatest thing about Tasty Bev is probably all the special releases and tap take over, which announce promptly on their website and Facebook.

What a great bottle shop. I drive 20 minutes once a week to grab things from here.

The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always welcoming to whomever comes in.

They may not have a HUGE selection, but they do tend to have interesting and fun beverages.

They were the only place on the area that had Ommegang Adoration Ale in April, and were wiling to hold some for me.

Hard to get to at certain hours due to the location (pay to park or get lucky with a free street spot), but worth the trip.

BONUS: near a brewery!

They don't make beer shops much better than this place. Yes it's small and parking can be a hassle in the area if it's crowded but other than that this place has exactly what a beer lover wants. Rotating draft beer on five taps that are standard bar price and allows you to drink while you shop. An incredible selection that is pretty easy to sort through. I honestly can't say enough about the selection. I didn't find any incredible, hard to get anywhere beers here but all countries/styles are represented and I found a slew of brews that are hard to if not impossible to find anywhere in state of Virginia (a scant three hours away). And the staff is incredibly helpful in both tips and helping you find stuff. Just a great place and they do special tap events as well.

Stopped in here while downtown. Great little spot off of a dead-end road with plenty of parking. The store has a great feel to it...very well lit and spaced out, with a large L-shaped bar in the back and coolers all the way to the right for your cold mix-6s and local growlers. There are some food type items available (cheese, snacks, etc), but I didn't try them. Looked good though. The bar had a very solid tap list available, with 5 or 6 brews to enjoy there, and 4 growler options to fill. Also, there is bottle/can service there if you want something from the inventory on the shelves. Away from the bar, there is outdoor seating, which is perfect in the nicer weather. I chatted up a couple of folks that appeared to be regulars by definition. Everyone there, staff and customer, was very friendly and very cool. Plenty of beer to choose from, and the US beers are set up by brewer, with the NC stuff getting it's own spread space. The imports are divided by country. Ton to pick from. Also, there's some swag behind the counter to show your love for the shop. This place is absolutely worth a visit!

What a great shop! I always enjoy a visit to this place and often find something unusual. The beer is organized and well presented. And they always have something solid on tap to help maintain your fluids during the long search. I usually have to make a few laps to soak it all in. This is one of my regulars and a must stop for anyone visiting Raleigh.

If you're looking for a "beer- store" that is a BEER store, Tasty Beverage is the place! The big plus, and the greatest business model, is the addition of taps so you can sample various brews as you shop around! Staffed with congenial and knowledgeable folks, Tasty Beverage is a stop well worth making!

This is more a bottle shop with some taps than a pub with bottles but Wow! One of the best selections I ever seen and I don't mean sheer numbers. The quality of beers available is stunning and the service is easily the friendliest and most knowledgeable I 've come across. The bar area is small and if you come and they are busy, you will have to stand.

Their website is very good and it lists all the new stuff and is updated often. I actually saw they got some Oak Aged Yeti and sent an email to them prior to my visit. I got a very quick reply and though they would not hold it for me they assured me it would be available when I visited. Sure enough, they had some left, now that's service.

Small, yet comfortable bottle shop with a decent selection and several taps.

In a trend I hope catches on in more of the country, Tasty Beverage Company is a bottle shop with taps where customers can drink while they shop (or drink what they shop for). Located in what was an old train station, the vibe is more West Coast than East. Bright, lots of white surfaces, and plenty of well stocked wire commercial kitchen shelves. Good mix of local, US, and international beers. While the shop is small, there are six to eight taps and a reasonably diverse selection of chilled and shelved bottles. The bar was full on a Tuesday night, but given the size of the place, there was no problem making may way back for additional rounds. Beertender was quick with suggestions and samples. Everyone in the store was very knowledgeable. Prices were consistent with what I've seen around the US. Given the selection and frequency of tap rotation, it could easily become a regular stop when I'm in town.

A destination for the beer lover. If it's distributed to NC, they pretty much have it. Beer only - lots of singles, bombers, imports, seasonals, one-offs, etc. Also have small selection of mead. They keep their website updated so you always know what's new. The tasting bar is always a treat, the taps rotate almost daily - the tap list is also kept up-to-date on the website. Not much atmosphere but, I'll often stop in just to try something interesting on tap. Prices are in line with boutique beer shops in the area usually bit higher than Total Wine. Ample free off-street parking. Worth the trip.

It's about time someone opened up a quality beer store in downtown Raleigh. Now I don't have to drive 30 minutes to Sam's to get first class selection and service. The atmosphere is quaint, inviting, and always seems to be busy. Even though there is always a crowd one or two of the guys always seem to be free and willing to help (when needed). The selection is on par with Sam's which IMO is the best in the state. They only thing they seem to lack is the quantity due to the size, but with that being said always have what i'm looking for. Pricing is also very competitive and better than a few store in the area. With this place being right around the corner from where I work the only time I go anywhere else is if I'm looking for a 12 pk or more.

Have you been to a bottle shop and felt like 'If only they changed that one thing it'd be perfect..'? This is the place you need to check out. After having multiple people tell me Tasty Beverage was an amazing place with a large selection I decided I had to check it out myself. I fear Tasty Beverage has spoiled all other beer shops for me.

A - In my opinion atmosphere is not that big of a deal for a shop such as this but Tasty Beverage ends up having a very good one anyway. It combines both a utilitarian setup with a retro look. Also, they have taps and tastings.

Q - It is.

S - The service is fantastic. Staff is very friendly and more than willing to answer questions. When picked up an expired beer I was informed by the cashier in the case I wanted to get something else instead before the purchase was made. That's class.

S - Many multiple level shelves with packs and singles. There is a wall of coolers with growlers and cold packs/singles. Add to that it seems like the consistently are getting in new beers and it's nearly a dream.

F - No food.

V - Prices are very reasonable.

This place is a class act! The atmosphere, inside and out, is inviting and honors the product being sold. The product, by the way, is far more than one’s “beverage of choice”. The product is simply a quality of being. The folks I have met, Johnny, Sean, and Brian have elevated the entire beer community with this place. Thank you. Your store could be the model to which all others are measured.

The staff has a superior command of beer knowledge and the store’s inventory. Their affability and enthusiasm builds contagious energy that spreads to everyone in the store. These guys really care and are genuinely interested in the customer’s sensation. They invite feedback regarding how an individual enjoyed the beer, and suggest ideas to improve the overall consumption experience. The small bar space works well with the perfect blend of selection, size of the store, and quality.

Tasty Beverage has become a must-stop for me when in the area. The Raleigh beer community has a rare gem here, which should be savored and nurtured for decades to come.

Truly the best thing to happen to the Raleigh beer scene in years. Wonderful, knowledgeable staff, fantastic selection, great atmosphere, priceless location on the edge of downtown. Going to a concert at the Raleigh amphitheater? Start here a couple hours early. It will make the beer they serve there go down easier.

Visiting the downtown scene? Start here and have a couple reasonably priced beers to get your night started right before you venture on to the 'scene'.

Johnny and Sean and Brian and Critter are a joy to work with. Bring them your beer problems and they will guide you to beer solutions! They are good people despite their proclivity toward Belgian beer.

Come here drink beer...

When I walked in the door - HOLY GUACAMOLE, I just about had a beer-gasm! This store is totally devoted to beer. They have the brews divided up by country, as well as a special section for North Carolina beers. I went nuts snapping up stuff that you can’t get in Atlanta - at least not currently. The counter people were very helpful in pointing me towards the state’s best brews. The only drawback is they won’t break up six-packs, but that’s just their way. C’est la vie. This is a must if you visit Raleigh. Parking is adequate and free.

I have been frequenting Tasty since it opened. This store has brought great availability of craft beer to Raleigh. The store is a good size to offer a nice variety without being overwhelming. The layout is shopper friendly. They also have a decent glassware selection which sometimes gets overlooked for a great store. The tasting taps are always boasting great variety with hitting all ranges of styles of beers. The staff is very welcoming and open to questions. They will help you find the right bet for your taste. The prices at this store rival anyone in the area. They have a great relationship with many of their accounts and this shows in the quality of product that is always available.

Stopped in today with a buddy to try to find some pumpkin ales for my wife, who is a big fan. I'd been to the opening event, but with hundreds of people showing up and the shop not fully operational, it was tough to get a read on things.

Shop is in a small space that feels a lot bigger because of high ceilings and thoughtful placement of their shelves. The focus is on a good selection of domestics with an emphasis on NC beers (the NC shelves are front and center, nice to see) and Belgians with some other European stuff mixed in (JW Lees vintages, Mikkeler, etc). At this point, most of the American beers are pretty standard rotation and seasonals, but the co-owner said that they were working toward getting special releases. It's a well thought out selection, and the Belgian lineup is particulary exciting. It will be awesome to not have to drive to Sam's for stuff like 3F, Hannssen's, Fantome, etc.

Back of the shop has a bar with 6 taps, and there was some good stuff on. The co-owner Johnny offered us tastes (Big Boss Harvest Time since we were shopping for pumpkin beers). I'm pumped to see a shop with taps open nearby for what I hope will be a growler station when NC wakes up and adjusts its laws. Crossing fingers that Tasty will be the spot for this!

Johnny was really cool...came out and walked around the store with us to talk beer once he realized we were geeky. He was a good guy and has been working like crazy to get this place up and running. Still looks like they have some room to fully realize the potential of this shop, but things are definitely promising thus far!

EDIT, 3/22/12: After having been a patron of Tasty for the past six months, I feel I need to adjust my review. Bumped up the atmosphere score because their bar has turned into an excellent spot for a post-work beer and really good beer conversation. Also, service is a pure 5 now...as I've gotten to know most of the guys in the shop, I can always count on a "You need to check this out" or "Such and such should be in on tuesday" whenever I come in. Great to have a shop where the staff all knows what you're going to be interested in right when you walk in the door. And I felt like a dick for having the lowest score. Really, I'm a big Tasty fan. Have only been into Sam's once since they opened, and I felt terrible the other day when I bought a four pack of Aprihop at PSM.

This place is awesome.

I stopped through here while I was in town (from Philly, which is a great bear town) and was really impressed. They had an extensive selection, they were very knowledgeable an helpful, and the prices were great They had an impressive offering of Ballast point, Stiillwater (from $8-$12 for a bomber), Jolly Pumpkin ($8-$12 per bomber), a bunch of founders, and ton of local NC stuff, plus and a very nice selection of lambics and belgians. Also they have a nice little bar in the back and they had a small (6 varieties) great selection on tap--ballast point victory at sea, duck rabbit barleywine, and other great stuff while I was there... definitely worth stopping through... the place is owned by a couple of young guys who are always around.. very cool place, and one I'll stop by any time I can!

Closest thing to Cheers the Triangle could offer. Always an uplifting experience, with as many regulars as they seem to have, the guys always are able to take time to educate, reveal or just shoot the bull. I feel right at home at Tasty, it's my "downtown office" when i can't get things done in the uptown office.
They always have something on tap that is new and exciting. Moreover, they maintain a good friendship with one of the largest distributors for the area and stay supplied with something for every walk of life.
If I could I'd be there right now having a Chombers time.

Stumbled on this place the other day and when I walked in I felt like a kid in a candy store. I don't know how many varieties they have but after getting most of my beer from Total Wine and Harris Teeter this was like heaven.

The selection is great and very organized. Service was great. Atmosphere was very nice- bright, clean, open- much different from a lot of the craft beer shops I've been to.

I like that they have a newsletter and a facebook presence so you can keep up to date on what they've got planned.

I'm really glad to see another option for craft beers other than Total Wine. I will definitely be frequenting Tasty Beverage Co.
