Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Wolf Picker is named in honor of our hop growing community and the harvesting rig they use. Each year, the brew is crafted with same malt base but with new and unique varieties of hops. Some of the varieties are so new, they’re not even named yet. Wolf Picker 2016 features the experimental HBC 438 and Cashmere hops. These two offer a complex and layered hop character that combine hints of coconut, papaya and mango with a mild herbal quality.

not too sure what is so experimental about this? maybe the hops are something new? but if they are, its a pretty mild european type strain, and they havent dosed it very heavy at all. its a nice easy drinking springtime brew though, and i like it well enough, it just doesnt really say experiment to me at all. very light for a pale even, golden mostly, with a tall white head, looks almost belgian in the glass. it smells like a real clean simple cereal grain base with some spicy grassy hops, very saaz-esque in the nose to me with the faintest hint of lime zest as well. the flavor is equally tame on the hops, slightly herbal and green, but its not high alpha and its not oily and its not that distinct. its dry though and well carbonated, and with such a light grain base, its a pretty nice springtime session beer, although in a lot of ways its like a weaker loose leaf, which i think is already loosing steam in the market. wanting this to be a bit more interesting than it is, but its well made beer that should have wide appeal.

Wolf Picker pours a golden color with a big lacing head. There is a weaker, but floral aroma. Taste is light, but has a nice fresh floral flavor. Weaker body, and a bit watery. Overall, its good with the fresh hop flavor, but on the lighter and watery side.

2016 Version.

Pours clear golden with a frothy white head. Nice lacing left on sides. Aroma first smacks me with some fresh herbs from the local garden, that is then nicely paired with the sweet fruit aromatics of peaches, mangos and honeydew. Flavor follows suit with only a mild bitterness in the finish. A crisp, medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, awesome batch. Definitely the best Wolfpicker version I have tried.

Served from 12 oz bottle to a pint glass

Look: Lightly hazed golden yellow. Not much head and dissipated fairly quickly. Medium to light carbonation.

Smell: Citrus and tropical fruits. Pineapple and maybe a little Grapefruit. Delightfully bright.

Taste: Slight bitterness complemented with sweet pineapple juice. A little piney from the hops creates a mild bitter experience complemented nicely by a light sweet bit of pineapple malt. Maybe a little mandarin orange in there to boot.

Feel: Medium-Light bodied. A little creamy and the light carbonation dances around the tongue well after the sip.

Overall: A pretty solid, easily sessionable Pale Ale. Not much to hate about this beer. The overwhelming single characteristic I will take away from this beer is the pineapple malt. I didn't know I liked pineapple that much. I will most probably revisit this beer again sometime in the not so distant future.

Slightly hazy dark golden/light copper pour with a white one-finger head. Tropical fruit flavor upfront backed a touch of pine and grass. Finishes with a light juicy and fruity bitterness.
