Style: English Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The distinctive hop character of our 5 Barrel Pale Ale is due to the extraction of essential oils from select hops. We treat 5 Barrel Pale Ale to an infusion of fresh whole hop flowers in the Hop Back and the Fermentor, as well as four hop additions during the kettle boil. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively flavor and aroma.

From notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

5 Barrel Pale Ale pours a pale and transparent copper color with a medium sized fluffy white head.

There is a spiced malt nose with a bit of a citrus hoppy kick.

The flavor starts with a grainy malts, with a faint sweetness. There is a bit of spice and pine, and a light citrus bitterness toward the end. It is a fairly simple beer, and not anything that I

The mouthfeel can best be described as not offensive. It is light bodied, somewhat smooth but still a bit grainy, with a medium carbonation.

This is fairly bland and just not that exciting.

Slightly hazy yellowish orange with a small white head that sits around for a little while, leaving some nice lacing.

Biscuity, grainy malt aroma with some floral hops. Kind of sweet smelling, like honey. Pretty refreshing.

Very biscuity and fruity, slightly sweet. Not a huge hop presence, but it's there in a floral and citrusy dept. Not bitter at all. Maybe a tad on the grainy side for my taste, but pretty good.

Fairly light body with moderate carbonation. Pretty creamy and smooth, and refreshing.

Pretty nice. Nothing super exciting, but a nice basic English Pale Ale that I'd definitely reach for on a hot summer day, and could easily drink a few.

Appearance: Poured a slightly musty copper with standard off white head which held a nice cap.

Smell: Hops bleed through the most here, but the smell is light and subtle - a soft pale ale.

Taste: The beginning rushes in with hops and sour fruit tones; the middle peaks the bitterness of the hops; the end lingers in the bitterness for a bit longer, but fades into a sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Moderate on all levels: thickness, fizz, etc.

Overall: Probably my least favorite brew from Odell, but it is still a well-rounded pale ale.

Chilled 12 oz. bottle into a shaker pint. Bottling date 1.18.13.

Look- Clear deep amber with a finger and a half of white froth that falls quickly. Very nice lacing.

Smell- Mild, bready, earthy undertones with a mild flash of citrus and spice. Appealing.

Taste- Follows the aroma - toast and light brown sugar accompanied by a bit of citrus zest and black tea. Interesting flavors, just enough bitterness emerges through the sip. Modest earthy, herbal hop flavor throughout.

Mouthfeel- Medium body, soft carbonation. Easy drinking.

Overall- A very, very nice everyday pale. Complex enough to make it interesting, light and clean enough to have with pasta for dinner. Recommended.
