BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Odell Brewing Company
Colorado, United States

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Rupture was born out of our obsession with getting the most out of each and every hop. In fact, we built a machine in our brewery to incorporate a unique fresh grind process. By grinding the whole hop we “rupture” the lupulin inside – releasing the oils that give the beer its flavor. And what we grind that day we use that day. Leaving you a beer that’s fresh, aromatic, with a bright hoppy character.

12 oz can- Pours hazy golden with a medium white head. Aroma is grapefruit, mango, dank and resinous. The taste is citrusy, resinous, peppery spice, prickly carbonation and medium body. Tasty, i was confused by the look of this can and the name of the beer, it's a brown can and says right on the front fresh grind ale, i thought i was buying a coffee ale, a fresh ground coffee ale... But it's an APA, and a good one, even though the marketing is misleading.

Picked up a single from the Kings Beer and Wine singles cooler on 10-21-17 for $1.89. Best by 1-13-18.

Beer poured pale gold with a nice white head.

Nose is fresh citrus, very nice.

Taste is this wonderful blend of pale malts, orange, grapefruit, and a touch of pine. I expected this to be a bitter finish for all the flavor i was getting but i never got that. This is the beauty of this beer.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and refreshing.

Overall what struck me about this beer is the orange dominated flavor...don't taste that in many natural flavored beers any more!

One of my new favorites in the style. Fantastic mix of citrus and pine. Definitely leans toward the West-coast side yet extremely hop forward without being bracingly bitter. It is in the same league as Hubert yet more available and affordable.

This might be my new go-to beer. Damn this is good, and it’s in cans at a good price.

I sure wish Odell would switch to a “canned on” date instead of a “best by” date though. I think they date out 6 months which is BS.

Pours a slight hazed golden yellow color with a fresh super white head. Smells of citrus and fruit some cracker meal. Taste was tropical and floral with citrus and stone fruits, a bready meal malty finish that complemented this PA. Sweet and well carbonated with a fruity biscuit dry finish, Highly drinkable.

12 oz. can poured into tulip
(10/26/17 born-on date printed on bottom of can)

L: mostly clear pale gold, slight mistiness but it's 70-85% clear; topped by thick meringue-colored head of foam, slight sticky; hundreds of super tiny bubbles rise up the wall of the glass and keep a constant collar of offwhite/beige foam, a thick collar at times ... and the way the head stuck and the collar is lacing, it's artistic

S: grapefruit, grapefruit peel, orange peel, biscuit malt, pine; as it warms, the biscuit-malt sweetness grows and grows, turns into orange or even candied orange with hints of grapefruit ... could also call it pineapple

T: follows the nose but much earthier (more grapefruit peel than grapefruit); the earthiness tames the sweetness from what tastes like a thick layer of biscuit malt ... enough malt to have you

F: awesome ... light, prickly and easy to handle ... might be heavier than a lightweight, but the carbonation keeps it fluffy

O: super yummy,

Aromas rise from the can and fill the entire room! Citrusy, tropical, and dank with pronounced lemon and passionfruit. Spicy, citrusy, and bursting with juicy hop flavors. Love the effort...love someone trying something new and exciting. Odell really nailed this one. A refreshingly complex, yet highly drinkable APA.

Can dated 12/19/17
Pours a pale hazy orange, ample foam and drippy lacing, lasting surface coverage.

Aroma is somewhat cheesy and earthy hop character.
Taste has a bitter citrus peel note that lingers into the dry aftertaste.
Light to medium bodied, ample carbonation. Overall ok, but nothing special.

In homebrewing, i've always heard not to squeeze out the hop sack if dry hopping, as it can add muddled hop flavor.
This seems to go against that rule of thumb, and i'd think all the lupulin oils would get stuck to the equipment. Anyway...
