Odell Brewing Company
Colorado, United States

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Rupture was born out of our obsession with getting the most out of each and every hop. In fact, we built a machine in our brewery to incorporate a unique fresh grind process. By grinding the whole hop we “rupture” the lupulin inside – releasing the oils that give the beer its flavor. And what we grind that day we use that day. Leaving you a beer that’s fresh, aromatic, with a bright hoppy character.

On tap at Uncle Harry's 5 and Dime Tavern, Cedar Falls, IA. Served in a shaker pint. This one doesn't leave a whole lot to be desired. Slightly hazy golden-colored pour. Although this was a typical tap draw with minimal head, the quarter inch or so of bright white head left lots of lovely streaky lacing as the beer was consumed. This was probably the most perfectly balanced beer I have ever experienced. Big in-your-face aromas and flavors of pine and citrus zest, with a solid but unobtrusive malt structure that provided some nice body and a touch of sweetness. Pleasant bitterness, dry and crisp finish, incredibly easy drinking. I'm not getting the apparent lack of love for this. Could it be that much better on tap?

I cannot rate this beer highly enough. I am generally not a fan of very hoppy beers. I am a malt lover. However, having the hops ground so fresh into the brew changes everything. I have nothing negative to say. Buy more than one pack if you see it because it's often hard to find more.

Pours golden. After second can, I let the beer warm up and the flavors pop out along with the aroma. The hops pop with flavor as the beer warms up. I have been waiting to try this beer and the wait was worth it, GREAT BEER ! ! ! ! ! This beer is hoppy ! ! ! ! !

This beer is about as close to a perfect APA as it gets: exceptionally fresh bursts of pine and citrus hops with Odell's trademark knack for balance, carbonation, and mouthfeeel. At 6,0% ABV, there's no mistaking it for a watered-down session ale, but Rupture avoids the heaviness usually associated with such an intensely flavored brew. Odell can always be counted on for innovation and quality, and this is undoubtedly holds true to their reputation. Somehow completely different in flavor profile from their flagship IPA or their Drumroll APA, yet comparable in terms of brewing expertise.

As good as of beer as there is out there right now. Easily my go to right now and at 6.00 it’s not overpowering at all. No matter who I introduce this beer to I always receive the same response. It’s as smooth and delicious as any beer I’ve had. I have a hard time buying anything else right now, especially with it’s very reasonable price point. I could get all technical with the description, but delicious and amazing is all that is necessary.

12 oz. can

Pours hazy golden yellow with a creamy white foam head. Smells like big mango, guava, papaya, pineapple, passionfruit, lemon, grapefruit, orange citrus, berry, mild bready pale malts, with dank spicy earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like mango, guava, papaya, pineapple, passionfruit, lemon, grapefruit, orange citrus, berry, some bready pale caramelized malt, with dank spicy earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy and smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a really nice IPA.

From a 12oz can:

Appearance: Clear gold, good head.

Smell: Beautiful tropical fruit and pine aroma.

Taste: Nicely sweet up front, tropical fruit flavor comes through, then some citrus bitterness to finish. Very nice!

Overall: I picked up a 6er of this in Iowa and was really impressed. One of the best smelling beers I've ever had, and a really good sweet/hoppy balanced flavor to it. Awesome!

This might be my new go-to beer. Damn this is good, and it’s in cans at a good price.

I sure wish Odell would switch to a “canned on” date instead of a “best by” date though. I think they date out 6 months which is BS.

Best by January 13th 2018 on the bottom of the can. Very slight hazy pale gold pour, pretty long lasting foam. pine resin, juicy hop oil aromas that scream freshness. Pine and citrus taste with that incredible hop oil goodness that I just can't get enough of. Grapefruit and hints of tropical fruit I notice after my initial rant aboot the hop oils;) Medium body with a fairly light level of carbonation. Now getting some malty notes of light toasted bread. Wow, this could easily be a go-to as long as it's around.

12oz can best by 12/26/17
Perfectly bright and golden, 1/4" white head that retains for a few minute and falls to a cap...leaves behind some lacing.
Amazing hop aroma - pineapple, faint pine, citrus..any type of delicious hop descriptor you can think of can be inserted here.
Delicious, tastes bright and full of fantastic hop flavor. Finishes clean.
One of the better beers I've had recently. Extremely drinkable.

One of my new favorites in the style. Fantastic mix of citrus and pine. Definitely leans toward the West-coast side yet while very hop forward, it’s without being bracingly bitter. It is in the same league as Hubert yet more available and affordable.
