BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Odell Brewing Company
Colorado, United States
odellbrewing.com

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Rupture was born out of our obsession with getting the most out of each and every hop. In fact, we built a machine in our brewery to incorporate a unique fresh grind process. By grinding the whole hop we “rupture” the lupulin inside – releasing the oils that give the beer its flavor. And what we grind that day we use that day. Leaving you a beer that’s fresh, aromatic, with a bright hoppy character.

If I could review the label I would give it a 5.

Can dated 12/19/17
Pours a pale hazy orange, ample foam and drippy lacing, lasting surface coverage.

Aroma is somewhat cheesy and earthy hop character.
Taste has a bitter citrus peel note that lingers into the dry aftertaste.
Light to medium bodied, ample carbonation. Overall ok, but nothing special.

In homebrewing, i've always heard not to squeeze out the hop sack if dry hopping, as it can add muddled hop flavor.
This seems to go against that rule of thumb, and i'd think all the lupulin oils would get stuck to the equipment. Anyway...

Poured from a 12oz can with a best by date of 1/16/18; into a pub glass.
Appearance- clear gold with swirling carbonation bubbles that aids in the massive fluffy white head. Lacing is scattered and soapy.
Smell - very fruity (mainly citrus and tropical) and floral hop aroma!
Taste - the nose leads to an even better flavor profile with the fruit stronger than the floral; very flavorful APA!
Feel - a bit light and the mild sweetness holds the bitterness back a touch!
Overall- wow, I expected a strong offering, as Odell's hopcentric ales are usually very strong, but I wasn't expecting an absolute homerun!

This beer is about as close to a perfect APA as it gets: exceptionally fresh bursts of pine and citrus hops with Odell's trademark knack for balance, carbonation, and mouthfeeel. At 6,0% ABV, there's no mistaking it for a watered-down session ale, but Rupture avoids the heaviness usually associated with such an intensely flavored brew. Odell can always be counted on for innovation and quality, and this is undoubtedly holds true to their reputation. Somehow completely different in flavor profile from their flagship IPA or their Drumroll APA, yet comparable in terms of brewing expertise.

Poured into a Great Divde cervoise glass.

Look: Opaque dark straw yellow, light cream colored head that leaves a thick collar, nice film, and spotty yet unique lacing.

Aroma: Subtle orange with really fresh dry cedar hop aroma.

Taste: Perfect blend of orange zest and fresh spicy hops, with a bit of a peppery finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium and dry.

Overall: Odell never do anything bad really, and this is par for the course.

I have been trying to become an IPA fan for a long time. I've concluded that I only like them with certain attributes. The citrus flavors of this one lean a bit sweeter. The hops aroma is not too piney or juniper. It's golden with a proper head. This one is slightly higher in APV. I've noticed that the higher the alcohol in almost any beer, the more I like it, especially if it's well hidden. Can't explain that. O'Dell has always impressed me. Perhaps I need to drink their beers blindly, to avoid corruption.
