Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Rupture was born out of our obsession with getting the most out of each and every hop. In fact, we built a machine in our brewery to incorporate a unique fresh grind process. By grinding the whole hop we “rupture” the lupulin inside – releasing the oils that give the beer its flavor. And what we grind that day we use that day. Leaving you a beer that’s fresh, aromatic, with a bright hoppy character.

Thanks to leftpaw for bringing a 6 pack of this over to his 20th HS reunion. Pours a standard darker yellow and gold kind of vibe edging into light amber with 1/2" white head. Aroma was hoppy, but kind of a difficult time picking out what I was smelling. Simcoe maybe?

Taste is a middle of the road bitterness (again Simcoe? Maybe some C hops too) and more of a hodgepodge of all the typical hop profiles: pine, floral, grapefruit bitterness. Didn't really pull all that much tropical fruit or sweeter citrus notes out of it though. Body was fine, alcohol was fine. It was a little more sticky than I would have expected. I don't quite understand what the hype is about this one, its a good beer, O'Dell's is a good brewery, but this doesn't move the needle for me like it does others.

It appears they went for a novel way of marketing this like they do with a hop torpedo or whatnot rather than identify any sexy hops.

12oz can, served in a willi becher glass. Pours a clear golden orange body, slight copper hue, two finger white head, good retention, rings of lacing. Smell is grapefruit, caramel, zesty lemon, light resin, touch of toasted grain. Flavour is heavier on the resin than on the nose; fair bit of zest to go along with it. Basically heavy resin and zest on the palate, which fits the concept of the beer here. Mouthfeel is medium lighter bodied, good carbonation, reasonably drinkable despite the fairly zesty presence. Nice hoppy pale ale, balanced and fun to drink.

CAN
Bright gold; ton of lemon rind; slight graham then a bunch of melon, citrus, and slight dank oily.

Super juicy + tropical. Dunno about “rupturing” hops, and a bit heavy to session like an APA. But solid.

On-tap at Side Effex, Albuquerque, NM

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down, leaving thick lacing down the sides of the glass and a patch of bubbles on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of floral and citrusy hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of floral and citrusy hops along with some notes of resin in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This APA has fresh aromas and flavors of hops, both of which are especially strong for a beer of this style.

Fruity aroma and taste. Good complexity w hops vs malt. I love Odell ipa , and this one sits right up there next to it w a bit more fruit to the taste buds. At 6% , it’s a beer you can visit a few times in a day....

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into pint glass, best before 3/22/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, white bread dough, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, white bread dough, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine, zesty, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, white bread dough, biscuit, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and fairly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is an outstanding American pale ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt flavors; extremely smooth and refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and lightly dank hops; perfectly balanced bready malts. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
