A present from Mr. Doug Odell himself, this (two weeks old) IPA tasted amongst the best I had in this style !

While I've rated more IPAs (82) than any other style (Saisons are next at 71), I really don't like IPAs. (This inconsistency can be explained: I like to try untried brewers and most make an IPA.)

So, I have three reasons to drink an IPA. First as stated, I wanted to Have the brewer for the first time. Second, I have a cold or cough and don't care what I drink (so just try something medicinal, I surmise.) And third, I'm eating spicy food and no other beer goes with the food.

For Odell's IPA, it was the second and third reason. Nothing wrong with this IPA. I suppose it has a following among IPA devotees. As for me, O'dell's has way too much coating of the tongue. But the spicy food was a good enough antidote.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into an IPA glass.
Appearance- golden, fairly clear, low lacing.
Smell- fruity, slightly floral.
Taste- not overly hoppy, slightly dank and piney, a little dry, but well balanced.
Feel- thin.
Overall- good beer, but I thought it would have bigger favor than it provided after my smell.

Beer is so subjective I wonder if my opinion even matters. However, my first impression was that this beer needed a little more malt to balance the hops. It seems a bit dry to me, but, that may be exactly what your looking for. It has significant lacing that totally coats the sides of the glass. It smells amazing but the taste doesn't match the smell, at least for me. The 7% abv will sneak up on you and bite you in the ass, so be aware. It is a good alternative to the sweeter variations of ipa styles. A great ipa, rock solid.

Clear and fresh. Better look than nose but solid good taste.

A great IPA. Highly recommended even to someone who is not an IPA fan.

June '17 - on draft. Pours rich copper, heavy white foam. Active bubbles. Floral malty nose. Fruity. Soft malt taste with a firm pine bitter back. Malty balance. Light peppery bitter trickled throughout throughout. Nicely carbonated. Subtle fruitiness. Really exquisite IPA. Outstanding.
