Poured into a pint glass.

3.5 A: Nearly clear golden yellow/light orange color. One finger of creamy white head with pitiful retention, but some splotchy lacing.

4.0 S: Really pungent hops. Something almost musty. Simple, but pleasant. Malts don't really show up to the party.

4.0 T: Moderate bitterness. Earthy and herbal hops are the showcase. Again, malts really don't do much, just a neutral barebones base and that's okay because it works well. Otherwise, very clean. Alcohol isn't noticeable at all.

4.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Super smooth throughout. Moderately creamy.

4.5 D: Simple, clean, and super smooth. Not the most exciting drink, but it's a nice, moderate alcohol brew. Again Odell shows me that simple works just as well as big and complex.

From 6/5/10 notes. Had at SAVOR in DC.

a - Pours a golden color with an inch of white head.

s - Smells of citrus hops, fruit, and pine hops.

t - Tastes of citrus hops, pine hops, and some bready malts late in the taste. A decent amount of bitterness.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

d - A decent IPA. Would try again.
Original score: 4/4/3.5/4/4
EDIT: Had this one again fresh on 06/10/14. Have to imagine they brought it fresh to SAVOR several years ago so not sure if the recipe or this batch is just better, but the taste was MUCH better, with no real bitterness. New notes:

a - Pours a hazy orange amber color with two inches of off white head and mod carbonation evident.

Smells of citrus hops, oranges, fruity malts, honey, tropical fruits, and light resin. Nice nose, lots if citrus.

Tastes of citrus hops, pine hops, pineapples, lemon, oranges, tropical fruits, fruity malts, More pine here.

Medium body and low to moderate carbonation.

From a bottle at Capone's during Philly Beer Week...

A - A very minimal standard looking white foam quickly fades leaving the most modest of lacings... A rich glowing orangish gold color... Moderate carbonation...

S - Sweet pineapple... A touch of citrus... Some mango and grapefruit... A touch of bitter hop resins... Touches of floral aromas... A slight grass presence... Some very mild caramel undertones...

T - Sweet pineapple... Smooth citrusy hops... An enjoyable earthiness... Touches of caramel and bready malts...

M - Fresh... Medium bodied... Sturdy... Juicy... Smooth... Slightly oily... Crisp... Easy drinking...

D - A really easy drinking American IPA... Nice work by the folks at Odell... Really flirts with DIPA territory... Even though this one is slightly more sweet than hoppy, it's an excellent all around offering that any self proclaimed hop head should seek out...

Golden color with a one finger bright white head with good retention and it leaves beautiful lacing all the way down the glass.. Smells of grapefruit, oranges, pineapple, mango, and pine. Very nice.

The taste is just like the aroma. Sweetness and bitterness combine beautifully. There is also a light amount of hop oil flavor. I usually taste this type of flavor more in a DIPA than an IPA. Very impressive.

Medium bodied, nice carbonation, and a real treat to drink. Finishes somewhat dry with a sweet aftertaste. I will definitely buy this one again.

Nice blast of citrus hops rushes out when you pop the top. Somewhat hazy body, capped with a big sticky white foam head. Scent, like i mentioned, is sticky hop oil. Fairly thin on the malt with a heavy dose of citrus hops. Some bready notes. Medium bodied. Hint of spice from the alcohol as it warms up a bit. Pretty good beer overall.

Almost mahogany color, minimal head and lacing. Earthy dense aroma. Not to my liking really.

Taste of wood, minimal hops, below average bitterness. Must be English style ipa. Lots of caramel. Alcohol twang to it. Kinda costly for what seems to be a below average ipa from the western part of the country.

Yellow-orange pour with decent head and great lacing. Nice big tropical nose with hints of bread, tea and caramel. Very nice resiny, pungent first sip that transforms into a very well balanced beer. The earthy, bitter hops are complemented by a nice sweet malt backbone. Lots of citrus, but there's something unique about this beer that I can't put my finger on. It's a unique, earthy, but pleasing aftertaste. The mouthfeel is on the chewy side and highly drinkable. A very unique IPA that I will definitely seek out again.

Received as an extra from millah- thanks! Best by 9/7/10.

A: pours a clear gold, thin white head, bad retention, some lacing

S: very pungent hops with pine needle and some tomato like notes on the front, sweet malt profile shows up at the end with notes of honey

T: the front features bitters hops with pine, lemon zest, and grapefruit. This beer seems slightly out of balance as the malt profile is overshadowed by hop bitterness. The finish is slightly tart with lots of bitter hops.

MF: medium body, medium carbonation, nice crisp mouthfeel

D: this beer isn't bad by any means, but the hops seem so strong that they lend some unwanted vegetable like flavors/aromas. This doesn't detract from it being tasty, it just keeps it from standing above the rest of the delicious IPAs out there. Perhaps I just am not a big fan of the particular hop profile, but I would've loved a little more malt presence.

Poured from a bottle (stamped 7/8/10) into a pint glass. Thanks to monsterfat for the bottle.

Golden pour with a little under a finger of rich white foam. Head retention is pretty good, and there's some nice lacing on the glass.

Lots of citrus in the nose. Pineapple, grapefruit, orange...smells as much like tropical fruit juice as any IPA I've had. It's a nice nose.

Flavor doesn't quite follow through like I'd like it to, though. Plenty of citric hops (which I love), but it seems like the sweet malt does more to detract from the overall flavor than to enhance it. One of those cases where "balance" can be negative, as the flavors almost cancel out. Somewhat resinous bitter finish. The 7% ABV struck me as being kind of high for an IPA (though I usually don't pay attention), but it's never noticeable.

Medium bodied, pretty soft carbonation. Not surprisingly, it's fairly smooth and slick. A tasty, easy drinker. Falls just short of being listed alongside some of my favorites from the style.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Clear orange-gold with moderate eggshell white head that leaves nice lacing rings.

Smell: Mostly pine and grapefruit, with spice and light toasted malts.

Taste: Very hoppy with pine, grapefruit and some tropical fruit. The toasted malts are very dry and almost a little sour. Ends somewhat bitter and spicy. Fantastic balance, or is it a lack thereof?

Feel: Moderately low carbonation, medium almost oily body that is fairly creamy and smooth. Very dry sour finish.

Drinkability: Extremely good IPA. This beer makes me ecstatic that Odell came to Minnesota.

Pours a light amber gold color with a big bubbly creamy head. Very good appearance, but nothing to push it over the top.

Smell is awesome, so much citrus and floral hop aromas, very nice smelling IPA.

Taste is bitter up front, like an American IPA should be, followed by a nice citrus, grapefruit, floral and pine flavors. Light bready malts also come through.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, very nice for the style. Medium carbonation and medium body.

Very drinkable beer, one of the best examples of the style out there.

12 ounce bottle- pours a light orange/yellow with good clarity. Minimal head, some soapy lacing. Aroma- very ripe tropical fruits (mango, pineapple) with some bready sweetness. Taste- good blast of hops in initial sip, same earthy, meaty fruit flavour. Malt profile is balanced well with the hops providing a background sweetness to counter the bitterness. well balances. Body is on the light side with the beer drying out in the finish leaving a citrus fruit rind taste. Has a mineral undertone on finish which is somewhat out of place. Carbonation is pretty much spot on for style. Pretty darn drinkable

Poured into a tulip glass from a 12 oz bottle.

A - light copper color with about one finger of head.

S - floral, honey, oranges, but not as strong on the nose as other ipas

T - pleasantly bitter, pine, orange, wears its 7% alcohol well, bitter on the finish

M - good, not too thin, not to syrupy

D - easy to drink IPA

Appearance: Clear gold, good head and lacing.

Smell: Pink grapefruit.

Taste: Solid citrus and herbal bitterness, not too dry but not a lot of sweetness to it either.

Drinkability: Another good IPA for satisfying a hop jones.

This is a pretty good IPA, but I prefer them with a little more sweetness underlying the bitter hops. Worth a try.

Pours a nice dark golden color light foamy white head, heavy citrus notes on the nose. Bright citrus notes with a slightly bitter finish make this IPA a nice change of pace for me. Not your over hopped, over done IPA that seem to be a dime a dozen these days.

12 oz. bottle poured into a standard pint glass.

A: Very clear deep golden hue with a white head that settles to a thin film on the surface. Lacing is very good.

S: Hops mask most of the malt in the nose, although some caramel aromas linger. Mainly it smells floral, with notes of pine, citrus, and some onion.

T: Very clean taste. Fresh greens, with pineapple, mango, and pearl onion. Pine and some green pepper notes are also present. Malt it there, and it's caramel and doughy character balance the beer nicely. There's definitely a green element to this beer, and it's in a good way.

M: Medium bodied, and has a velvety mouthfeel, yet sharp and crisp in some corners of the palate. Carbonation is just the right amount for a beer of this style.

D: A very solid IPA. I'll be buying this one again, as it is very easy to sip on, even at 7%.

A= The pour unveils a beautiful light amber colored beer with a nice eggshell white head on it that is about a finger high and holds there throughout the drink. Excellent lacing on this one as well.

S= Summit hops. After trying Gubna I am more able to pick out that hop variety. This doesn't smell like exclusive Summit hops but they are in there and the most dominate hop. I say they aren't dominate because while they are noticable they are not the super oniony hops you get from Gubna. This has a more mellowed fruity note to it as well. Good grapefruit and citrus notes that sort of flow with the Summit hop.

T= Again there is a good deal of summit hop to it. The hops however as in the smell are more mellowed and smooth with a fruity complexity to it. Not exclusive Summits I would say. Hops is a really really nice mellow sweetness to it. This is what I would call a "balanced" IPA. Really nice use of malts in an IPA.

M= Low carbonation and smooth as silk. Really love the mouth on this one.

D= Excellent brew. For a guy that doesn't care for summit hops much this is a little step from the ordinary IPA while still staying comfortable for me. The malts sweeten it out perfectly and the mouth is spot on for an IPA.

This is my first Odell... they just came to MN. I'm impressed and am looking forward to trying more after my first sip.

A - Really nice golden color with a 1" head.
S - Hoppy and a little fruity. There's a unique hop smell in this I can't quite place. I like it though.
T - Very good example of an IPA.
M - Just right.
D - Very drinkable. This is going down way too fast. It's my first beer of the day, but still very easy to drink. I'll have to slow down.

Poured into a pint glass from a bottle. had a good amount of head about a inch and a half. Did not last very long.
Very interesting aroma. Fruit, hops, pinecones. Almost gin like with a hint of pineapple.
Tastes very similar to the smell fruit and pine.
Very refreshing.

Golden with no head, except for a white ring around the perimeter and some thin patches.
Smell is a nice balance of hops and malts. Corny, piney aromas, as well as some citrus tones, accompany the hops, while the malts are crackery. Some peppery notes are there as well. Faint tomato aroma as well that reminds me of Gubna.
Taste is crackery malts and hops accompanied by a mild pine and citrus aspect. More of that faint tomato aspect--I'm thinking it's the same Summit hops that are in Gubna. Faint pineapple. Finish is malty, with ample bitterness.
Mouthfeel is crisp, yet the finish is slightly sticky and wet. Light-to-medium body. Good level of carbonation.
Drinkability is good. Interesting, slightly unorthodox IPA.

The 2nd beer I've ever had from this brewer. Picked up a 6 pack of this tonight for a mere $8.
Poured from the bottle into a pub glass, producing about an inch and a half of white froth and bubbles.
Slow to fall down and sitting for some time. Finally leaving a solid cap of assorted bubbles and a bit of froth with an even thicker collar.
Sticky, never lettin' go cling of lace lines the glass walls.
The beer is a transparent darker golden color.

Aroma is bursting at the seems with hops. Pinneaple, sweet juicy, just bit into a mango and the juices flow down my chin, like aromas. Some mild pine and bittering too with hemp and dank weed. But mostly a tropical fruit frenzy of hops.
A little malt too, which is surprising. In comes in the form of a buttery bread sweet caramel.

Mouthfeel is fuller with moderate carbonation and a light fluffy feel.

Taste contains the exact same flavors mirroring the aroma. Its a tropical fruit festival of hops. Just a bit of bittering into the swallow and lingering with mild rind. So its mostly sweet juicy hops, keeping drinkability very high on the 'keep it coming, not bittering' hops.
Floral flavors too with a touch of minty leaf.

God this is absolutely splendid. One of the better ipa's I've had in a good while. Its not that its better then others either. Its just that its a a take on the style that I cant say I've experienced before. Sure it shares similarities to other ipa's, but this one is different. Different in a good way too. Drinkability is high, as this is not very bitter and the pallet is given time to recover. Truly an inspiration to the kind of beer I want to brew. Highly recommend.

Pale gold color with a fluffy one and a half finger head that leaves all kinds of sticky lace clinging to the side of the glass.

Oh yeah, this is one hopped up IPA. Earthy and floral hops and nothing else.

Nicely balanced flavor. The hops are again, earthy and floral with some citrus and pine notes. The hops are balanced by some nice pale malt that adds some biscuity sweetness. When I say balanced, I don't mean 50/50. I'm thinking more along the lines of 70/30, but it's working. The hops are not overly bitter and add a piney taste to the finish.

Nice soft and smooth feel in about a medium body. Lightly dry finishing.

For how hoppy this is, it still drinks phenomenally well. A top notch IPA that I would have again. Welcome to MN Odell!

-Poured closer to golden in color than amber?

-Strong aroma, hints of grapefruit and pines, smelled great.

-Accurate amount of carbonation, good amount of hops however a little less than I'd like in an IPA, accurate amount of malt.

-Easily drinkable on a daily basis and overall better than most IPA

Nice golden color with a small white head that fades quickly leaving little lace.

Wonderful piney, earthy hop aromas, with only a hint of grassy esters. Biscuity malts with good cereal grain aspects.

Getting more into IPA's like this lately. Very dry on the finish with total domination of piney, grassy, earthy hops. Not overly bitter, hints of aspirin, star fruit, nice brisk carbonation with good bready malts. Easily drinkable. How about coming to Ohio?
