355ml (12 US fl.oz) bottle poured into a tulip glass

Look: Pours translucent orange. Very orange, in fact. Slight haziness but nothing too bad. Fingers-width of white head which left behind some lacing after dropping down to a foam cap. Did I mention that it looks a bit, erm, orange?

Smell: Hops, hops and more hops. On the one hand, it's an almost stereotypical American IPA but on the other the smell is quite a bit more floral than most. This isn't a bad thing, though.

Taste: Strangely, it doesn't taste nearly as hoppy as it smells. If anything, the hops are toned down a wee bit and the fruitiness (grapefruit, passionfruit, lemon etc.) is a bit more upfront. A little bit of maltiness lurking in the background but as you'd expect this is pretty much hop-forward.

Feel: Decent carbonation, smooth tasting and a dry, bitter finish. Typical IPA in other words.

Overall: I suspect my expectations for this might have been a bit high - it gets a lot of good press and it's not difficult to see why but for some reason it didn't quite do it for me. It's not a bad IPA by any means - in fact I'd go so far to say as it's one of the better ones out there, but there's not much to distinguish it from the zillions of other IPAs out there. Worth a try, but not overwhelming.

Very drinkable ipa. Really clear. The smell is much more hoppy than the taste unfortunately. Does not end as dry as I like for ipas. Good beer, better options available. Filler in a trade so only one bottle to try. Probably four months old based on a best by date of July 15,15.

Would try again

Had such high expectations, but this was literally just "okay." Poured on draft at Capone's, but scent and taste was truly just pedestrian; nothing special at all. I really hope it was a bad tap line or something, and will try this again when I see it somewhere else. But so disappointed in this one.

Overall: An outstanding example of an American IPA.

I love this IPA. While not the most inventive or exciting, it essentially does no wrong as straight-up American IPA. Sessionable, bodied, sneaky abv, raw piney and juicy floral bursts, clean and dry brown-tinged golden grain textures, flashy and effective effervescence, lean and smoothly crisp tapering as each sip finishes—Odell really just hits all the marks with its IPA.

I first tried this three years ago at 77 Longbranch Saloon in Chadron, NE, and it was a revelation on simple, sublime execution; each time I'm able to snag a six, those initial impressions are confirmed anew.

On tap at Odell. Another excellent example of a solid IPA. Very good. Lots of bitterness with tons of flowery aroma and taste.

Appearance : apricot colored body, 80% opaque. Head is two fingers, eggshell white, and leaves generous lacing as it recedes.

Aroma : grapefruit, pine, a little nectarine. Nice hoppy profile to be nosed. Very clean, spiced, fresh.

Taste : very fruity yet somewhat astringent at the same time. Tropical fruits - papaya, mango, with a bit of wet earth.

Mouthfeel : slick mouthfeel with creamy accents. Ends semi dry.

Overall : a fine representation of the style. Good stuff. Would have again if I was an ipa fan.

Always excited for a layover in Denver, since I get to have this lovely brew at the airport. Slightly orange golden color, aroma of grapefruit, citrus, and maybe melon. Nice little citrus and hop combination bite, but not overwhelmingly sweet or bitter. Great balance of flavor that is both refreshing and engaging. Like another reviewer stated, this is the IPA to bring to those who dislike IPA's.

A: Clear, golden with a tight white one-finger head that lingers. Nice lacing.

S: A citrus bomb, featuring oranges (maybe tangerines), pineapple and grapefruit. Piney hops in the background.

T: The perfect IPA. Citrus smooth, featuring the above items on smell, with light piney hops to balance the malt profile. Amazing.

M: Medium with medium carbonation. Decadent. Delicious.

O: I would stock this all the time if it were available. This is the IPA to convince people who don't like IPA's. A venerable brew. Highly recommended.

Appearance - Pours clear and golden copper in color with an off-white 2 finger head. Good retention, leading to a thin, consistent layer of surface suds.

Smell - Orange and pineapple are the prominent notes in the aroma, with lesser grapefruit and pine. Bready malts in there beneath somewhere.

Taste - Follows the nose. Hops are tropical with pineapple and orange being deadly tag team partners. Light pine and grapefruit. Malts are fairly hidden, but add a generic sweet backbone to this amazing hop bomb.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Silky texture. Smooth. Very nice!

Overall - Fantastic IPA, though I think I like their Runoff Red better. That's not to sell this brew short, it's a definite gem.

look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Appearance- Amber in color, clear, and pours a two finger foamy white colored head.

Aroma- Citrus/ grapefruit hops with caramel sweetness and dry bready malts in the background.

Taste- Very similar to the nose except orange fruit is big up front with citrus hops and caramel sweetness in the beginning. Finish gets bitterness from a combo of grapefruit and a dry bready malt.

Feel- Medium bodied, medium carbonation, and dry finish with mild bitterness.

Overall- A very good ipa but I didn't feel it the world class beer that the rating indicate. The orange flavor from the hops is very nice and malt is a great blend of sweetness and dryness, but its just missing something to make it world class.

One of my very favorite American IPAs.

Look: Pours honey golden color with a bone white soapy 2 finger head that dissipates quickly leaving lots of lacing

Smell: Aroma of citrusy hops up front, particularly pineapple &grapefruit.

Taste: Delicious and refreshing. Up front with orange, lemon, and pine notes. Hoppy bitterness up front (not sweet at all) with a dry alcohol finish. Enough malt to balance but not overwhelm the hoppiness. Great work Odell!

Feel: Mildly carbonated, some burn on the back of the tongue. Coating is light and refreshing. It does not linger. After a minute or so you can experience the flavor again with a fresh drink from the glass. High ABV for an IPA(vs IIpa) - well disguised apart from a little burn on the finish. Refresing enough to be a Session IPA but be forewarned, it is NOT a session IPA!

The king of the hill!...The Lord of the Realm!...One IPA to rule them all!!!...Sorry to go all nerdy but this is probably my favorite American IPA.

I won't waste much time talking about its flavor because it just needs to be tried, but it strikes a perfect balance between sweet and bitter and has alot of Grapefruit and orange rind with some piney effects on the tongue. Look, Taste, Smell, and Feel are all rated at 5...but I have to mark it down on Overall because its always more expensive than the other IPAs on the shelf by a few dollars on average...not that it shouldn't be, but still. This is the quintessential American IPA rivaled only by a few (like Firestone).

This beer has an awesome taste and smell. The taste is smooth, and has a perfect hops taste. It is very well balanced; the hops are not overpowering.

Fresh hops and an expert hand yields a piney brew with all the great fresh hoppy notes you want in an IPA without all the unwanted aftertaste that a lot of the time comes with an IPA. The label artwork is pretty neat also, very appreciative of breweries that put effort into proper advertisement of their brand. Would drink again 10/10 times.

Pours a light coppery golden with a bone froth atop the clear brew.
Aroma has a strong piney resinous note similar to Rampant DIPA from their neighbor.
The hops pack a wallop but the sweet malt fights back achieving a nice balance. It is amazing how balanced this beer tastes yet the hops sustain a steady bitterness and very flavorful pine throughout the finish.
There is a medium carbonation and medium body. Oily and coating hop resins dominate.
Overall I like this IPA and would seek it out again.

Wow! A nice sweet and bitter, malt balanced, juicy IPA. This one was phenomenal!!! This actually reminds me a bit of Schafly Tasmanian IPA (TIPA), which happens to be my absolute favorite IPA.

Look: Lovely bright hazy amber with generous white frothy head that dissipates to a film with scattered bubbles and lacing.

Smell: Very aromatic. Floral and fresh pine with some sweet citrus.

Taste: Mildly sweet malt quickly overlaps with piney hops, blending nicely until the lingering moderately bitter finish. medium body with smooth mouthfeel, fine carbonation. Finely balanced with fairly easygoing and highly enjoyable malt and hops flavors.

Appearance: Cloudy golden amber, with impressive head of off-white suds and gorgeous lace.

Aroma: Bright floral hops! Very lovely aromatic, perfumed hops character already.

Taste: Sharp, bitter citrus hops with plenty of floral and tropical notes (mango, pineapple). Very well-balanced with the malts providing counterpoint to the bitterness. A superior IPA, even within a couple of weeks of it’s ‘best by” dating. I am impressed and will buy again. Just wish I could get these in Indiana!

From a single bottled about a month ago into a Great Divide Cervoise

A: Clear golden orange, big 3 finger puffy white head, good lacing
S: Huge (for an IPA) pungent hoppy mixture of tangerine-like citrus (both juice and rind), pine, flowery notes, with the bready caramel malty sweetness struggling to keep up.
T: Like the nose...really strong flavors but I go back and forth about whether the different hops t harmonize quite as beautifully as promised by the nose. This time I'm saying "not quite" but last time I had this I thought it was almost ideal. Regardless, great fun to taste and drink, with great combination of bright citrus, dank earthiness, sharp piney notes, and a very pleasant but not overpowering bitterness.
M: sticky, medium carbonation, zesty but creamy, pleasant bitterness and dryness.

Overall: These guys know their way around many different beer styles, and like their other styles, the IPA is a beaut. Delicious!

Great thick head that sticks with the beer low into the glass. Amazing smell that is distinctly IPA. Great flavor and a great place to start for any beer drinker to get into IPAs. Bitter enough to let you know there are definitely hops there but not too bitter to put one off from exploring the rest of the IPA range out there. 4.5/5

2/18/15 date on bottle, that means bottled on 10/18/14.

A: Clear light copper body. The retention is just ridiculous. Never leaves. The Audrey Hepburn of IPAs. Gorgeous.

S: Huge notes of citrus and pine. Not in your face, but nice.

T: I've had this beer hundreds of times, in bottle and on tap. It never disappoints. Incredible flavor from the hops, without much bitterness at all. This is a beer that will satisfy hopheads but still lure beginners into liking IPAs. If you look up American India Pale Ale in the dictionary, there should be a bottle of Odell IPA right fucking there.

M: God damn. Creamy. Perfect amount of carbonation. This thing is a pleasure to drink.

O: One of my favorite beers in the world, so glad I can get it fresh whenever I want and for prices as low as $8.49/sixer. You can't beat that.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a bright, caramel-copper coloring with a clingy, fluffy, dense, off-white head. Nose of pine pitch, subtle hops bitterness, subtle citrus notes, and toasted highlights. Flavors are citrus forward, with grapefruit and tangerine, followed by a resinous and bitter blend, all on a tangy, caramel backbone. Smooth, light bodied, with a frothy, effervesced, dry finish. The aftertaste is tangy citrus and pine pitch. Smooth, balanced, and incredibly drinkable.
