Slightly hazed copper body capped with a thin bubbly dirty white head. Lacing is actually pretty full for the amount of froth on top. Aroma is chalk full of tropical hop sensations: pineapple, grapefruit, mango, tangerine... The list goes on. Orange marmalade. It's also smoky and resinous as well. Probably the best smelling IPA I've come across. Beer enters the mouth with a solid caramel malt base, but that sensation doesn't last long before it's pummeled with the aforementioned tropical sensations. Great hop flavor. Bitterness is very clean and enjoyable during and after the drink. Body is medium to medium-full. Moderately carbonated and extremely enjoyable.

I recently did a blind tasting of 13 IPAs which included some big hitters like 2 Hearted Ale, Masala Mama and Bitter Woman. This not only came out on top of my ratings, but also of my brother's. To me, this beer tastes like an IPA version of Hopslam. Awesome.

A: Light pale copperish color with diamond clear color (as brilliantly clear as you can find) with light but good head

N: Nose has lots of piney hops centennial, horizon or simcoe

T: Taste also starts with piney hops and some strange malts, starts very soft and light but spreads over the tongue, its got a nice crystal malt

M: It coats the tongue with a dry but frothy mouth feel

F: Finish is bitter and has that plasticy simcoe taste, its pretty dry and evaporates off the tongue easily, some spicey hops also dazzle the tongue on the finish

Final thoughts: This is a really great IPA and quickly became one of my favorite IPAs, just wish I could get it easily around here.

This beer was poured into a pint glass. As it was poured it created a fair amount of head but the retention was a little lacing. The aroma is of a sweater hops smell giving a note of a good balance of hops and malts. The taste of the beer is of a medium dryer amount of hops. The coriander and malt is slight but barly there. The aftertaste is a decent one but not something that makes you crave them.

A) Pours with a nice active head then settles just a bit. Has sticky, big bubble lacing. Copper in color. Visible carbonation. Transparent.
S) Citrus - sweet orange. Just a bit of caramel notes.
T) Malt and hops are balanced well. Starts with a sweet nose, just a bit of caramel. Then transitions to the hops - citrus notes. Orange. Grapefruit. A bit of apricot. Ends with a hop bite and lingering earthiness in the aftertaste.
M) Medium body. Smooth. Some CO2 fizz, but not too much. Some tannin feel.
D) A delicious IPA. Well balanced. True to form. Pour me another!

Personal favorite local brew of mine, and I am just now getting around to reviewing it. I have been so carried away w/ trading lately, that this beer gave me a wake up call saying "hey stupid, look what you can get in your own back yard!"

A - clear topaz color w/ well retaining foam top and some sexy lacing

S - huge piney and citrus nose, wow! I look like an idiot because I cannot stop picking up my glass -only to sniff not drink! (they should make air-fresheners that smell like this)

T - hop bitterness is the king of the castle, plenty of it to feed the whole family of taste buds. BUT they are kept in check by a delectable fruity, backround. Not just bready malt like so many other IPAs i've had, this fruity sweetness has character, almost tropical in a way. bitter but not overly so finish leaves me begging for more! I don't beleive a better balance can be achieved in this style.

MF - not too oily or carbonated, just right. and a medium full body.

D- too high, i can and will drink this till the cows come home.

Just out of the fridge, poured from a 12oz bottle with date 092909 and raised leaves around the neck and a guy riding a bucking elephant redeo style on the label. Thanks to bonsreeb85 for this goody.

Pours a bright clear goldenrod/orange. Nice bubbly head leaving spotty lacing as it dissipates.

Aroma is strong! I'm smelling peach and pineapple, pine, grapefruit, orange, so much juicy fruit and hops. I already know its gonna be so delicious.

Taste is so well balance. Hop blast up front with a great citrus flavor. Immediately balanced with malty sweetness for a great drinking experience. It has a sweet bread like flavor and feel to it.

Very oily hop texture. Medium body with just the right amount of carbonation. So good. Drinkability is great for this 7% beast and the IPA lover. Cheers!

thanks to rsquared618 for the extra!

12oz bottle, with date of 080709. tasted in early/mid may 2009.

classic pale golden amber, with honey orange tones. clear. 2-finger off-white head, fades slowly to very thin but constant layer. great lacing, almost curtain-like later down the glass.

aroma: fresh pine, citrus and grapefruit (rind and zest), touch of apple esters and apple skin, into caramel maltiness. hint of peach. faintest trace of diacetyl. a nice yet complex balance.

taste: great balance of fresh citrusy hops and light piney resins, with caramel maltiness and fruity esters. bitterness is moderate, with crispness and very light resins.

medium body, smooth with mild resins again in finish. tingly, moderate carbonation can be fluffy.

simple but good. thanks again!

Reviewed on 06/21/2009. Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a thick white head. Aroma is super hoppy, predominantly grassy and oily hops. Flavor of crisp hop oils, citrus. Very rich palate. Awesome IPA, very drinkable. One of my favorite IPAs, yum!

Poured into my Dead Guy Ale glass.

A- Super clear pale gold color. Halfway down the glass the head dies down to a quarter inch thick. Some lacing on the glass.

S- Citrus, big hop aroma, piney, grapefruit.

T- Not to biter at all. Pretty smooth actually. Very clean taste, bell balanced. Some honey and grapefruit. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty tasty, mellow, IPA. Kind of pricey though, 6 pack=$11. Probably won't buy again till I see it for at least $9.

D- Good drinkability

Light orange color with a big big white fluffy head. Smells of hops and pine. Tastes just like an IPA should: citrus, mainly grapefruit rind, strong bitterness. Mouthfeel was right on the money--good carbonation tingle with a smooth velvety finish. Drinkable as hell. First rate.

Received a 12 oz. bottle via trade with Teke0611. Thank you for the brew.

Pours a slightly cloudy orange color with one finger of foamy white head. Has a very strong grapefruit hop aroma. Couldn't get much more out of the nose than that. Taste is in line with the smell, but with a nice malty backbone that comes in to play that balances it out. Overall a very solid IPA. I wish I was able to get these in Massachusetts. I may have to get a trade going for a few of these.

This is my kind of IPA....top notch juicy hop flavors that blend with a perfect malt backing...

A-Gold colored...not much more to say...a little whisp of a head..

S-Big time citrus...pink grapefruit, tangerines, mango, papaya, maybe a little squeeze of pineapple...beyond that there is an herbal/white tea type aroma as well...pretty complex

T-The big juicy citrus and tropical fruits are all there again but the light bready maltiness now emerges...this is a juicy flavorfull IPA...very little raw abrasive bitterness is detected.

M-Finishes almost sweet..fruity sweet..body is medium to full...if anything a little sticky..

D-Top notch IPA..would match up with anyone out there....actually reminds me a little of a smaller Hopslam..

Pours a clear amber color with two-fingers of white head that had good retention before eventually settling to a thick cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left on the glass.

The aroma was not as strong as I would expect from an American IPA. I picked up citrus hops with hints of grapefruit. A nice caramel malt aroma as well and overall has a slightly sweet aroma.

Very balanced IPA. Sweet caramel malt, citrus/grapefruit hop flavor, also some resiny pine hops as well. On the higher side of bitterness as well as some alcohol warming.

Nice body and texture. Medium to light body and nice carbonation. Nicely matched.

A nice balanced IPA. Good flavor with out being overly bitter. Refreshing.

I have been drinking this one from a six pack and it is only barely ok, maybe skunked a little or not as fresh as it should be.
Anyway on tap in Fort Collins saved this day.
this ipa is a nice light amber with light lacing and a sheet of barely off-white head that stays the whole way down.
the smell tells very well of the taste with citrusy to pin hops, like if clementines could grow on a baby pine tree. all around the sides of this dainty tree is light caramel malt to keep the tree standing and on balance. there is just a hint of alcohol in the smell, which is not a bad thing with 7%abv

similar the taste is big rather full with these hops caramel malt. the carbonation is just right to make it crisp clean and with a bit of silk.

way too drinkable for the quality of taste and abv. MUCH better on tap, all afternoon drinkable.

A: Beautiful golden pour completely translusent
with lazy but visible carbonation. There is a
scant head with little to no lacing.

S: Nice citrus nose

T: Fruit juicy but also fruit juicy slick.
There is a bitterness at the swallow but
not so strong and unfortunately lingering.

M: This IPA is slick on the pallet going down, a
little too sticky.

D: Not sturdy enough for me, just better than
your average IPA. A beautiful beer.

Received in a trade with Tolann - thank you so much!
I could sit and write about this beer for some time, but I gotta keep it brief tonight. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Big seafoam creme head, topping at almost 2 fingers and loitering for an eternity. Whence finally gone, left in its path is the dankest web of sticky lacing this side of Ft. Collins. Slight haze in the body, bright honey orange. The archetypal IPA.

Dreamy nose, so well done. Brilliant notes of mango and grapefruit. Alive, ripe and in your face. Picking up only a touch of grass and grain. One of the better IPA's I've had the pleasure of smelling. Taste is quite a feat as well, lemony and citric, a bounty of fruity hop qualities cover the tongue. Light to medium in body, but obtaining a fair amount of resiny oily slickness that pools and makes my mouth water. In the midst of this, there is a full, creamy yeastiness, and just enough pale malt to be detectable. Finishes full and sweet, which at times is overwhelming, but usually very enjoyable.

A very well crafted IPA, a very fine example of the modern style.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a clear bright orange, just barely tinted red. Two and a half fingers of dense, rocky, creamy, sticky white head, with plenty of big, thick bubbles. Beautiful. Great sticky lacing, with chunks of creamy, rocky head floating on the surface.

Nose is freshly zested grapefruit alongside grapefruit juice. Juicy and mouth-watering. As I revisit the nose after a few sips, the citrus comes across more as orange than grapefruit; sweet more than bitter.

Bitter grapefruity citrus flavor, yielding quickly to mere hop bitterness. Second sip brings out a more fresh-squeezed orange juice flavor, with accompanying bitterness from pulp. As I get more into the glass, pine hops show up to the party, and after a few more sips some faint floral qualities push through. Really seems to run the gamut. Another sweet upturn toward the bottom of the glass. Short, quick finish.

Medium to light body, and a little thin. Drinkability is helped in part by the thinness of the body; goes down easily, despite bitterness. Overall a fantastic IPA, and now sits at the top of my favorites list.

Poured into a tulip. Rocky, 1.5 finger white head that provided good lacing. Golden, semi-hazy body.

Smell was citrusy, floral and piney. Good amount of grapefruit as well. Subtle malt profile. A fantastic smelling IPA.

Taste had lots of tart grapefruit bitterness. Slightly piney and resinous. Good citrusy flavors, mild malt sweetness to provide enough backbone to make this one not overly bitter.

Mouthfeel had a light/medium body with good carbonation.

Drinkability was good as well. Good bitterness with a subtle sweetness hides the 7% very well. Doesnt leave any harsh lingering bitterness.

Overall this is a very good IPA. Good, mild, bitterness and great hop flavor and aroma while still being sweet enough to enjoy these back to back.

12oz. Poured a pale copper color with impeccable clarity and a thick, frothy white head that left some decent lacing on the glass. Clarity was just amazing to look at. Juicy, fruity aroma fills the nose with scents of orange and grapefruit rind along with some floral aspects. Smells fresh and sweet. Mouth-feel is also juicy but is light to medium bodied with balanced carbonation. Tastes are fresh grapefruit and orange with notes of pineapple and lemon. Nice biscuity malt backbone keeps everything in balance with a not too bitter hop finish. Very sound American IPA - wouldn't change a thing with this ale that represents the style well; it also does well at keeping its uniqueness.

A - Clear golden with a slight orange hue. Pours with a nice creamy, white one finger head. Nice lacing and a tons of carbonation rising within the glass.

S - Very floral with nice tones of tropical fruit and some citrus coming through. A little bit of pineyness detected in the background as well.

T - Nice, hoppy floral flavor with some of the pine and citrus fruitiness followed by the lightly sweet maltiness with tones of caramel and a kind of earthy flavor. Fairly bitter on the aftertaste, but balances perfectly with the floral notes that stick around as well.

M - Doesn't feel at all as overly carbonated as it looks. Great medium to light body that is very refreshing.

D - Extremely drinkable for a 7% abv brew. Very well balanced and extremely refreshing. Up there with the best IPAs I've tried.

A - Golden orange and very clear. Big foamy head with excellent retention and good lacing. Rather active carbonation bubbles quickly rising to the top.

S - Big fruity nose with lots of grapefruit, orange and even some tropical aromas mixed in. A little pineapple and mango perhaps?

T - Light sweetness with lots of citrusy bitterness up front. Big tastes of graprefruit. A light matly backbone emerges as the drink warms and provides a little hint of biscuity sweetness.

M/D - Medium bodied with a crisp finish. Hop resins linger in the mouth long after the drink is gone. Alcohol is there, but not strong.

thanks to cosmohophead for this extra

pours a clear gold with a 2 finger head that coats the glass with lacing

smells of tangy grapefruit and tropical hops

taste just like the smell but i pick up some pine hops first along with citris grapefruit and tropical hops. this beer reminds me alot of founders double trouble meets a lighter avery maharaja.

mouthfeel - not as crisp and light as double trouble - this beer coats your mouth and the aftertaste of fruit hops linger

drinkabilty is very good but watch yourself it is 7%abv

overall another great beer from odell and an IPA do be tried by all - better then sculpin imo.

Well, I was very pleased to be able to enjoy several Odell Ipa's last night. The beer was better than my team's performance. Celts, Bruins & Sox all lose.

Excellent IPA.

Came with a finger plus of pillowy egg shell white head. This lasted a short time and faded back into the beer. The color was a bright orange/amber color with excellent clarity. Nice color for this beer, really bright. Excellent rings of lacing cling to the inside of the glass.

Aroma was wonderful, bright, fresh, fruity and big citrus. Lots of grapefruit notes. Very floral..

Wow, this is just a wonderful IPA. Despite the aggressive hop nature there is a great deal of balance here. The grapefruit notes continue, along with some other fruit notes. Nice malt tones that are just slightly sweet and a touch of light caramel. More of the flavor is bread like and specifically a crispy crusted bread. The lingering hop bitterness is just awesome and so damn fresh & perfume like.

Bright and refreshing mouth feel, medium bodied with an assertive carbonation level. Really makes the aroma and hop notes pop.

Wonderfully drinkable.

This is an excellent IPA and shoots to near the top of my IPA list.

I'll be back to have more of these the next time I'm in Colorado.

A: Three finger head on initial pour. Light amber / golden-orange coloring. Very little cloudiness; clean and clear. Slight retention with just a bit of lacing. A very thin layer of froth persisted throughout the 12oz's.

S: Crisp, clean floral smell with traces of pine. Caramel sweetness comes through slightly with hints of fresh-baked bread.

T: Amazing. The best IPA I've found. A nicely complex flavor. The floral flavor hits you right away, bringing a good kick of hoppy-bitterness (with just a touch of pine). This is quickly masked by a bready, slightly sweet, caramel flavoring that is most evident upon swallowing. This overtakes the bitterness that lingers on through the complex aftertaste. This aftertaste consists of mostly pine and floral notes.

M: I could claim that this beer is overly carbonated, but I do that all the time. I think, for most, this beer has the perfect MF.

D: I drink these beers like they're 5%ABV. Good Lord, if there is a beer at 7%ABV that's more palatable than this, let me know . . . Like I said, amazing.

I love this IPA so much because of it's complexity. Unlike most IPA's that give you a taste of caramel malt followed by a crazy amount of bitterness, this beer initially hits you with a floral bitterness (preparing you for the ride), and only then follows suit with its sweet and then bitter profile. This beer is a roller-coaster ride, but one that is controlled and well maintained. Drink this!
