L: Gold in color, thin foam of white on top. By can see the carbonation rising in it, nice lacing.
S: citrus and hops. Lots of both
T: crisp, citrusy and not overly hoppy.
M: thin but still pleasant
O: best IPA I've ever had. I'm a stout guy, but this beer is excellent!

Pour: Hazy golden-orange in color. Two fingers of white head with average retention and some streaks of lacing.

Smell: Primarily citrus notes consisting of grapefruit, orange peel, and a touch of lemon. Understated malt backbone and a touch of pine.

Taste: Citrus from front to back. Lemon twang up front with an orange peel and grapefruit finish. Biscuity malt character supports everything and ties everything together. Bitterness in the back has a spicy element to it. Leaves a lingering sweet nectar taste up front and dry bitterness in the back. Interesting and good.

Mouthfeel: Dry and medium bodied. Low to medium carbonation. A bit of a hop oil coating is left on the mouth.

Drinkability/Overall: Lots to like here. Easy drinking and not overly filling, the alcohol is well disguised. Good flavors and I was looking forward to each sip. Well balanced and not overly filling.

Final Notes: Hop-heads will appreciate this one, along with people who love citrus. Tangy, spicy, and with an understated malty character, pair this one with some serious spicy food. Recommended.

pours clear, the color of a freshly waxed oak floor. with a 2 finger head the shade of christmas morning egg nog.

Smells of grapefruit, floral, and just a hint of hostess twinkies.

Taste: A lot of the grapefruit hops, a bit of floral flavor, a hint of mint(?), and a bready malt backbone. not much going on here, but in a good way. very balanced, and a really good beer.

mouthfeel: hits the tongue hard, good level of carbonation brings out the hop flavor.

drinkability: high. I could whack down a bunch of these, despite of the 7% alcohol, which is hidden quite well, and enjoy every last one. good ipa.

Look: 4.5
Very very clear copper color. Decent amount of head and great retention. After the head depletes, a great deal of carbonation and lacing continues.

Smell: 4.5
Very aromatic and hoppy. Citrus, malt, over-ripe fruit, and earthiness.

Taste: 4.5
Great bitterness upfront. IBUs seem to be closer to a Double IPA (listed as 70 IBUs). Bitterness fades only slightly before the rush of sweet malt and savory butter flavors come in. Dries out quickly and fades with a smoky wood and nutty flavor after taste.

Feel: 4.5
Medium bodied. Quite active throughout the drinking experience.

Overall: 4.5
Great beer. I saw it on the list of top 50 brews in the country and, since I live in Colorado, had to grab one finally and try it (a bit ashamed of myself for never trying it before). Strong bitterness, malty, and hoppy. No one category is overpowering and very well balanced between all of them. Powerful. Will buy again.

Poured into FFF Teku glass
Bottle Expiration date 6/12/13

Appearance - Golden honey yellow. 2 fingers of thick, foamy head that hangs around. Sexy.

Smell - Piney, slightly herbal hops. Malty. Whiffs of alcohol. Not as strong as I expected.

Taste - Bitter pine up front, smooth on the backend. I guess I was expecting something more citrusy. Despite that, it is smooth and goes down very easy.

Mouthfeel - Medium body, light/med carbonation, semi-dry finish.

Overall - Probably won't be trading for anymore of it, but it's still a solid beer that I'd be glad to drink again.

I brought home a six pack of these to split woth the wife as she likes IPA and I only got one.

It poured a bit pale, I think a tad too yellowish.but I'm savoring my one and only. It emits a pale aroma too, faintly of hops.

I like what it follows up with, good light body with some malt but not too sweet. American style IPA hopped with intensions to impress, it clearly does to many BA folks. I think it does alot, the hop flavor lasts an eternity on my buds but it's like a bland pine tree;just short of exceptional.

I think there's other beers I've had destined to be the IPAs of choice for drinking by themselves, I think this one is perfect for generic Indian food.

Now this was surprisingly great! The menu at a restaurant had very limited beer but I remembered hearing about this one and ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised. Great IPA: piney, hoppy, floral, citrus. Everything I would want.

pours a slightly hazy golden amber with one finger of tight white head that clings to the glass and lasts. Smell is pure IPA, tons of bright pine and citrus (tons of grapefruit). Taste is more of the same, exactly what I am looking for in an IPA, paired with a strong but not overpowering bitterness. Mouthfeel is nice, it is a touch malty which balances with the citrus and bitterness. Overall a really nice IPA, definitely a solid choice for lovers of the style.

Appearance – This beer is gold in color and not that dark for being an IPA. The head retention is fantastic with nice lacing that lasts all the way through drinking a pint.

Smell – The smell sells you on this beer. There is a big wave of citrus fruits (oranges and tangerines) off the aroma hops. But you don’t get slammed with big hop bitterness or earthiness.

Taste – For an IPA lover, this is a tour through a great American West Coast IPA. It’s a very smooth and balanced drink with a dryer finish. The carbonation level helps to cut off some of the hop bitterness as well. But you really taste the citrus off the hops and a little bit of herbs.

Drink – Even at 7% this is a sessionable IPA. Where many IPA scorch your tongue with IBU levels and hop bitterness, O’Dell offers a beer that celebrates American IPAs, but allows you to celebrate them all night long. It’s no surprise that Cicero’s sells out commonly when they get this beer in bottle or draft. I’d highly recommend getting it while you can!

poured from a tap it came out with an amber-orange hue and a creamy looking white head.

immediate hop spice hits the nose. refreshing pine and clean citrus combine to make it work.

taste was a refreshing hop with pine and citrus character. a hint of malt brings the balance together well. also detect a slight creaminess in the flavor.

mouthfeel is creamy and refreshing. definetly a drinkable beer.

A: Beautiful golden pour completely translusent
with lazy but visible carbonation. There is a
scant head with little to no lacing.

S: Nice citrus nose

T: Fruit juicy but also fruit juicy slick.
There is a bitterness at the swallow but
not so strong and unfortunately lingering.

M: This IPA is slick on the pallet going down, a
little too sticky.

D: Not sturdy enough for me, just better than
your average IPA. A beautiful beer.

A - Clear golden with a slight orange hue. Pours with a nice creamy, white one finger head. Nice lacing and a tons of carbonation rising within the glass.

S - Very floral with nice tones of tropical fruit and some citrus coming through. A little bit of pineyness detected in the background as well.

T - Nice, hoppy floral flavor with some of the pine and citrus fruitiness followed by the lightly sweet maltiness with tones of caramel and a kind of earthy flavor. Fairly bitter on the aftertaste, but balances perfectly with the floral notes that stick around as well.

M - Doesn't feel at all as overly carbonated as it looks. Great medium to light body that is very refreshing.

D - Extremely drinkable for a 7% abv brew. Very well balanced and extremely refreshing. Up there with the best IPAs I've tried.

This beer was poured into a pint glass. As it was poured it created a fair amount of head but the retention was a little lacing. The aroma is of a sweater hops smell giving a note of a good balance of hops and malts. The taste of the beer is of a medium dryer amount of hops. The coriander and malt is slight but barly there. The aftertaste is a decent one but not something that makes you crave them.

One of my favorite IPAs out there. This is simply a great balance of everything in an IPA. Not overly hoppy and yet a great balance with the malt. Lots of citrus in the smell and taste. Great orange color to the beer. I wish the foam lasted a little longer, but the taste is still amazing. I don't find too many IPAs that I can drink all day like this one. Well done Odell!

12oz bottle from 6-pack bought at Wal-Mart $7.64

best buy date 10/5 /13

Poured into tulip pint glass
A: Pours a half-fingered head but with incredible lacing that never dissipates . Hazy burnt copper color. This beer is a thing of beauty.
S: Huge citrus aroma upfront: definitely lemon zest and tangerines, the hops are there for sure . Subtle pine scent in the background.
T: Taste follows the nose here; sweet citrus flavor upfront, some buscuity malts through the middle, with a bitter hops kick in the finish.
M: Starts off crisp and clean, but then the malts smooth it all out and pull everything together.

O: While i'm not a huge fan of most IPA's, I do find this one quite enjoyable. If I had to sum this one up in a few words, very balanced. Most AIPAs that I have tried are usually one dimensional, with the bitter profile being the dominate aspect. With this one, all its elements work in harmony to create a very complex, yet smooth beverage. And somehow the 7% abv and 70 ibu are so well hidden, you almost forget that its an IPA. Probably the craziest thing is that I bought this masterpiece at Freakin Wal-Mart.

Pours a light, hazy orange with an off white head. The aroma is outstanding of tangel, grapefruit, light grain and just a bit of a pine note. It is makin me thirsty. The taste follows the aroma perfectly. Starts with the sweeter citrus then quickly moves to the grapefruit bitterness. This is amazingly smooth, almost creamy and begs you to take another sip. Very clean finish with just a little bitter bite after it is gone. A very good example of the style, one of the best.

Amber orange in color with 2 fingers of white head. Solid lacing. Hop smell jumps out. Pine, grassy. I could sit and smell this beer all day! The bitterness of the hops is there in the taste, but not the same distinct flavors. A bit of the malt sweetness comes through. Solid beer, but the hop flavor could use refinement.

poured a creamy white head which left plenty of lacing on the rim. Man was the retention nice and unexpected. After the head had settled a bit I gave it a nice swirl and to my suprise the first pours little brother showed up. On the nose I picked up hops after hops, followed by grapefruit, tangerines and plenty of pine. The passion fruit aroma was plesent and inviting. Taste is right on with the smell. Plenty of hops for you hop heads and a nice amount of fruit such as grapefruit, tangerine, maybe a hint of mango and peach.
Overall this IPA was a very sessionable brew. After each drink it had the right amount of bitterness and sweetness to make you want to go back for more. I don't see one reason why I should not have a couple of these in my fridge at all times. Once again, O'Dell Brewing does what plenty are trying to do.

This poured with about an inch head of tiny bubbles that sank after a couple minutes leaving a thin layer across the top. The beer is a glowing gold-orange and if you look really close you can spot some fine sediment floating around in there. Smells awesome; really peachy and fruity - in fact for an IPA I'm not really getting any pine-like aromas at all, just peach and orange citrus. The flavor tastes peachy right up front, followed by grapefruit as the hop bitters start to work in there - nice balance. Carbonation is medium-low, and the mouthfeel is quite smooth. Overall I think this is a fantastic IPA.

It pours a rather light golden straw color which was its only weak point. Impressive head with great lacing and good carbonation. Smells of good piney hops and not much else. Taste is pretty similar, good hoppiness with a slight malt sweetness hanging around. A very slight grainy aftertaste. A light bodied beer that finishes dry. Odell delivers another fantastic beer.

Odell is always solid and this is a great IPA. Having it bottled is good but there is something a little extra on tap. Great hoppiness and a full body without a lingering after taste make this a top 10 beer, especially on the IPA list. A light fruity flavor adds to the complexity.

Thanks to BigJK for bringing this back from Pittsburgh.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into my snifter glass.

A - Bright hazy orange with about a finger width of head. It dies down quickly, but leaves nice lacing on the glass

S - Lots of citrusy fruits and a bit of spice. Reminds me of racer 5 from Bear Republic, just a little more potent.

T - The citrusy flavors are most prevalent in this. Lemon and grapefruit are the most prevelant, and then the bready malts come in just to balance it out.

M - Creamy with mild carbonation. Even just a tiny bit chewy.

D - Very. This is really good.

12 oz. courtesy of LSUPT.

A lot of Odell's beers have very similar appearance. I just had a 5 Barrel Pale Ale just before this and they are almost identical in appearance. This is slightly less murky. Good 2 finger off white head that reduced to a white film on top. Good intricate lacing throughout.

Smell is of hops, citrus, grapefruit, hops, and hops. Very nice smell.

Taste is definitely of some simcoe hops. It also has some crisp grapefruit and floral flavors.

Mouthfeel is very smooth. Lightly carbonated for the style. Extremely drinkable.

Would love some more of this. A very enjoyable IPA that is perfect for my midday drinking habits. Had this at 2 PM during a Dodgers game. Cheers!

Holy shit... I really wasn`t expecting this. What an amazing beer. Light straw in colour, off-white head with great retention, super piney hop smell and taste, mild citrus aroma, extreme dryness. This beer has it ALL. It rivals Stone IPA if you ask me. I`m going straight back to the store for more of this while I still can.

AMAZING!

thanks to Buebie for gifting this one to me in a recent trade.

a- pours a slightly dull looking yellow/orange color. shows nice clarity with a persistent white head.

s- big citrus hits the nose hard. great vibrant lemon and orange peel notes. it's almost hard to define anything else, besides a bit of lingering sweetness and some floral notes. the citrus steals the show and I'm on the edge of my seat to see what happens next.

t- an unusually unique IPA. the bitterness is light. that combined with a good amount of sweetness almost turns this one into a mixed citrus fruit juice beverage. a substantial amount of sweetness mixes with orange, lemon, and big grapefruit flavors. it's rare that I think an IPA is unbalanced sweetness wise, yet it still has some great citrus notes. the low bitterness mixes with a bit of pine and biscuit malts in the finish.

m- great body for an IPA. not letting that 7.0% go to waste. a nice crisp carbonation and a bit of slickness. a pleasant smoothness to this puppy.

d- a good one for sure. not overly hoppy and no alcohol to be found. it's a shame this is my only bottle. more Odells please
