Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A Golden Ale created by blending the final recipe with its own barrel aged pilot beers fermented with wild yeasts. Each individual barrel contributes a unique flavor from the wood chosen and the cultures resident to achieve subtle complexities that develop(ed) over time. A beer which starts sweet, filling the mouth with fruit-like esters and a mild spiciness, changing to a tart and lingering flavor reminiscent of grapefruit living amidst an earthy, citrusy hop aroma. Define flavor for yourself in this constantly evolving liquid expression.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter.

Appeared a golden/orange color with a ridiculous full-hand off-white head that stuck around for quite some time.

Smell was all over the place. Definitely could detect the alcohol in the nose. Also some fruity/wheat scents. Did have a slight white-wine scent probably from the barrel and the lacto.

Taste was all over the place as well. Very potent tasting. Strong hop flavors which I wasn't expecting, followed by some fruity tang. Alcohol was very strong and a bit offensive.

Mouth feel was OK. I enjoyed the high level of carbonation as it gave some reprieve from the alcohol heat.

Overall, not impressed but happy to try. Splitting the 750 with only one other person was a chore to get through.

Big pop when opened pours hazy golden with huge light and tightly structured white head, Nose is complex, balanced, and subtle layers of traditional golden ale apples and pears over honey malt with soft funky fruit, kiwi, and light red wine barrel, Taste follows with added dense layer of sweetness, not overpowering, but evident, more carbonation in the mouth rather than on the pour would be nice to carry the sweetness, but acidic notes do help out,

750ml corked bottle, poured into a tulip. Beware: I removed the cage, and the cork shot out and damn near put a hole in my ceiling.

A- Huge, fluffy beige head, with considerable lacing. Slightly cloudy deep golden color. Not heavily carbonated.

S- At the nose, I caught faint notes of grapefruit, apples, and fresh grass, but otherwise the nose was almost undetectable.

T- The first few sips were boozy and dry, with heavy barrel flavoring...hints of bourbon, champagne, with a hot finish. I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to finish it, but after the pour breathed and warmed a bit, it became more drinkable. My palate also needed time to adjust. Definitely a complex blend of flavors, with a heavy alcohol presence overshadowing everything.

M- Medium-bodied, extremely dry, boozy finish.

O- A solid wild ale, but a bit boozy and spicy for my tastes. It took some getting used to, but I was enjoying it by the end.
