CAN
Ruby-brown with tower of sepia cream. 4
Bubble gum, root beer barrels, hint of blueberry and coffee candy. 4.25
Licorice, slight ash, and blackberries then oily pine sap, summer berry, mint, and resin hops. Long herbal linger. 4.25
Dead smooth, round, almost medium. 4.25

Unique! Sweet nose and a hop profile that’s all botanicals with none of the usual citrus or mango - maybe that’s the locally Colorado grown factor. Roast, too, skips the usual coffee/chocolate to skew either candy or charred. The whole thing adds up to be juicy yet clean and dangerously easy.

Top 5 BIPA. 4.25

Surely black, with the color and lacing of this beer you can't help but be excited to see it poured out. The artwork of the can is mesmerizing for me as well with the moon/sun/stars over silver mountains thing going on. 8.10%, differing from its double.
Canned 3 months ago 2 days ago.
The smell is warm as hell, muted roasted notes carried by grassy hops which stands out more in its taste. A chalky light cocoa hits the sides of your tounge sensationally, leaving it's hops a flat grassy undertone. Slight hints of charcoal which gives it a nice Bar-B-Q hint.
This has made my list of favorites, I hope to see it get more reviews!

Leaving a review here for the normal "Mountain Standard Time Black IPA" instead of on the other listing which is technically a double IPA. This beer is only 8.1%, not 9.5%. Very surprised a brewery as big as Oddell hasn't surpassed 10 reviews on any beer they make or have made.

Cool artwork on the beer, King Crimson esque "Larks Tongues in Aspic" like.. (I had to).

The obvious distinction between the two closely related beers I've mentioned comes out already even though I haven't tried the double version. The smell is quite faint with just the slightest bit of roasted malts and some indistinct hops.

Look (besides the generous lasting had and beautiful lacing) is a dark brown, almost black IPA. Haha.

Taste is hop dominant but alludes to a porter. That is likely the malts doing their business, swept under the rug by a relatively bitter, piney/sour tone that mixes in strangely well with the roasted, salty cracker malts. Don't be fooled as this is still an IPA trying to look like a stout etc. Cheers!

I like it and look forward to giving the double IPA a shot, maybe more alcohol and malts is what this thing needs.

The reboot with a lowered abv is excellent. Nicely hopped with solid roastiness that fits the style perfectly.

Aroma is pine/pine needles, spices and dark malts. The flavor is dark malts, chocolate, pine needles, grapefruit and an acidic/bitter/slightly sour finish.

Poured into a tulip

Appearance: very dark brown; definitely not black but close. The head is a solid 2-finger tan head that lasts indefinitely as you’d expect from an IPA / 2X IPA.

Aroma: the alcohol really comes through in the nose. Hops are present but very little dark malt.

Flavor: roasty, increasingly so as the beer warms. Nice and hoppy to balance the flavors. The hops are definitely of northwest variety – spicy with pine. Pine is key. Perfect hops. There is some alcohol in the finish.

Mouthfeel: light-medium. A few of these beers could go down a wee tad too easily.

Overall: this is certainly an enjoyable beer and well done, but Odell’s Myrcenary is better. A good beer nonetheless, and kudos to Odell for trying a black double IPA. Well done.
