Interesting features:

A touch of grey in the head - a color I've never seen.

Very, very well-balanced, especially considering the ABV and age. Enough hops to leave some spice alongside a pleasant, not at all overl-sweet malt backbone. I was expecting a thin barleywine feel to this beer, but the spiciness gives it a character of its own.

Mouthfeel is a lot less viscous than I expected, but this beer did drink in some surprising ways. Either way, enjoyably thin for the style, color, and content.

Overall, better then expected, but it different and more typical ways than I had imagined.

Get some. And a fucking awesome bottle, by the way.

A - Pours a light cola brown with a 3/4 inch light tan head with good retention.

S - Hoppy pine and grass, roasted malts.

T - Roasted chocolate with a nice hop finish - unique.

D - Good carbonation with a medium body.

O - Chocolate and hops, but very unique balance and flavor, I like it.

A - pours a deep opaque black with a sort of chocolaty brown color. 3 fingers worth of off-white foam which quickly dissipates leaving just a touch of lacing.

S - Nose is subtle but pleasant. Lots of grapefruit rind, orange pulp and pine needles. Hints of roasty malt and chocolate become more noticeable as it warms.

T - Lots of smooth chocolate flavors like a rich syrup. Pine needles lend an earthy touch to the slightly roasty character. Lots of sharp citrus rind bitterness with just a hint of juicy tropical fruit in the center. finish is a lingering bittersweet chocolate and citrus blend.

M - Full bodied with a silky, creamy texture. High carbonation helps keeps up the drinkability.

O - Very enjoyable black ale. Really like that the malty chocolate flavors shine through.

Pours dark brown with small cream colored head.

Smells super hoppy. Peppery and citrusy with a tad bit of floral fruit orchard.

The taste is pretty much bitter hops all the way. You get a little bit
of the dark malt character but not much. The malt bill mostly comes out in the mouthfeel. Which is medium to medium full and slight creamy.

Overall pretty good but a bit too much hops to give it any interesting difference from an IPA.
