(S/)trolling some liquor hideouts on an airport commute searching for anomalies. The shop wasn't open for another fifteen minutes, but the steward let me in. He was phoning friends and texting; I had the run of his 200 square foot liquor hole. Searching. Searching. Searching. One lonely four pack of Odell's Myrcenary.
I quickly set my purchase up and get ready to pay. "One minute Phil, I have a customer". The rest is a long drive of

Fast forward two days.

This bottle art is amazing. Top is popped. The smell is ambrosia. Pours out a bronze-yellow with wisps of white sea foam. Smelling again; floral and yeasty. Taste is bitter, warming, hops, malt, sweet, yeast. How did my glass get empty? Shrug and pour. This has more balance than most Olympic gymnasts. 9.3% abv? The alcohol is playing hide and seek in my glass. The mouth feel is full. So close to perfection.

I can't seem to find any excuse why I wouldn't buy more-- if I can find it.

Pours a hazy light orange with a large white head which leaves nice lacing. The aroma is really nice on this beer. Oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, floral hops, and pine. If it tastes as good as it smells, this will be another winner from Odell.

This tastes even better than it smells. Oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, floral hops, and pine. There is also some sweetness from the malt, but it takes a back seat to the hops.

Medium bodied, smooth, and creamy with low carbonation. I could drink this all the time. Since it is year round, I think I will. Odell IPA is one of my favorite IPAs. Myrcenary will no doubt become a favorite DIPA. Nicely done by Odell.

I am absolutely in love with this beer. Its a lot maltier than most doubles but it balances well with the amount of hops up front. No heat coming from the 9.3%. Plenty of fruity flavor's coming out, just like you would expect from this style. Well done Odell.

Pours a cloudy bright yellow/orange with a small white head that fades into nothingness but leaves good sticky lacing around.

Aroma bursts with tropical fruits and citrus hops. Very little malt.

Flavor starts off with some bright citrus and rounds into a grapefruit and pine dry bitter finish. Hardly a malt to be found here about which I have no complaints. Very hop forward but very well balanced and not bitterly astringent.

A touch of creaminess otherwise pretty light body with good carbonation.

One of the best newbies I've had in a while. Thanks to d4radio for the this and the other 3 I still have in the fridge. Definitely a west coast style where hops are king.

Served in a Duvel Tulip from a 12oz bottle, thank you Jim (RatedZ) for getting me a bottle of this, I hope for more in the future.

A – An inviting golden color, similar to stay but with a hint of orange color. A small white head develops but then disappears rather quickly. Decent lacing as you drink this beer.

S – A lot of fruit in the nose of this one; orange, pineapple, peach, grapefruit, and some spring time flowers.

T – Exceptional, its taste like it smells. There is a lot of grapefruit, orange, pineapple and floral in this beer, its bitter but not overwhelmingly bitter. The malt is there, but just to add some body. It’s a very fresh and inviting beer, perfect for a hot spring summer day.

M – Full but without being to heavy. But its also a little on the thin side compared to other DIPAs, but it makes it better and more enjoyable.

O – I had been wanting to try this since release information came out months ago. It’s the best DIPA from CO at the moment, IMO. Its now in my top 5 of favorite DIPAs, just exceptional.

Pours a honey hazy orange with a finger or so of white head that does not stick around, really good lacing

Smell is tropical, kiwi, pineapple, honeycrisp apple, floral, pine, big bready malt, caramel, mango.

Taste is nearly identical to the smell. Tropical fruits all over, kiwi, pineapple, citrus, mango, tangerine, guava, blood orange, pine sap, leefy green hop bitterness in the end is light, malt Is huge but works as a backing to the delicious hop flavor, solid sweet bready backbone... Nice stuff

Mouthfeel is on the heavier side of medium, light to moderate carbonation, slightly dryness in the finish.

Hot damn.... I am re rating this, had it at a 4 but it is much better then that. I only bought a single since the date was 11/29/13... I assume it is in the area of 5 months old... If I find it fresher I would buy cases if it this good a month before the date!

Myrcenary pours a honey color with a solid 2 finger white foam head. Head retention was excellent as was lacing. Aromas of grapefruit and sweet malts. Flavor best can described as juicy with tropical fruit and sweet malt backbone balanced by grapefruit bitterness that turns a bit floral/herbal. For such a high ABV, the alcohol is well hidden. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel that finishes slightly dry. Very drinkable (for such a high ABV) and extremely tasty. Overall, a very well balanced and crafted Double IPA. Highly recommended.

This one pours a hazy, straw color with an off white head that sticks around. As soon as you pop the cap on this brew you can smell the hops. I love that buttery, citrus aroma. Each sip of Myrcenary is so smooth it almost hurts. The citrus flavor shines thru and marries oh so perfect with the bitter twang. It is amazing how that citrus flavor just hangs around. The alc. is lost in there which is great but it all works together for a velvet like finish. I love this beer. My 2 fav DIPA's are now both out of CO. This and 471 should be in my fridge at all time.

Appearance: Poured a clear golden orange with a fluffy white head, very fine bubbles and a sticky lace.

Smell: There's a strong hop presence, but the bitterness of the scent is being battled by something very sweet - this is probably due to the Myrcene from the hops. It's a civil war between hops and sweet fruits.

Taste: The beginning tickles the tongue until the back of the throat is kicked with sweet fruits and floral tastes; the middle rolls the flavor back onto the tongue with a sharp but gentle bitterness; the end lingers into a calm bitterness and tasteful remembrance of the aroma.

Mouthfeel: The beginning kicks on with seem heat. The carbonation is a tad strong, but it is still a smooth guzzle, semi-thick - medium bodied.

Overall: My friend and I like to call this the 'Urban Elephant' - referring to Odell's (wonderful) IPA. Overall, Odell did very well with this DIPA. It's a nice change - like moving from the country to the city (or vice versa.) There's a raw power in its hop content.

On tap at Flannys Bar & Grill in Tempe, AZ

A: beautiful golden orange with a nice 1 finger of head.. hop haze going on.. leaves some nice lace & some alcohol legs.. looks super inviting & what a DIPA should look like..

S: ripe & fresh citrus fruits.. tangerines, sugar coated grapefruit.. some mango & papaya as well.. hints of pine. Small touch of caramel.. but the hops steal the show..

T: pretty much follows the nose.. sweet tangerines, sugar coated grapefruits .. touch of pine & tropical fruits.. some caramel malt & a touch of breadiness. Bitterness is sweet orange peel like but not a heavy bitterness that crushes the palate.. almost forgot this was 9+% abv.. hard to put taste to words..just need to try it!!

Mf: spot on for this DIPA! Soft, with great carb.. feels great in the mouth.

O: a true Pliny killer..

Bottle Dated 6/12/12B
Consumed 4/7/12

Pours a nice golden orange color with some cloudiness either from the hops (dry hopped) or chill haze. There is very little head despite an aggressive pour. However there is a small ring of bubbles that remains.

Aroma is of citrus and grapefruit. It is intense and refreshing and begs you to drink the beer.

The taste is sweet to begin and finishes dry and fast leaving the palate ready for another sip. Hops are present and up front with citrus flavors, there is very little piney taste.

The beer is full bodied and smooth.

Overall this is an awesome IPA, maybe a new favorite. It is refreshing and balanced with citrus hops up front. Despite the alcohol it is an east drinker.

Clear golden hay. Big fluffy capping of off-white foam lathers up quickly. Lots of caked on lacing covers the glass in broken holed sheeting.

Lovely aroma of fresh citrafied hops with a dullish tone of peach, mango, pineapple, tangerine, and orange all melding together like a fine Turkish sherbert. Slight hay and cannibus arise deeper in the background to the nose about half glass though. Exceptional nose! Mellow, yet forward. Complexing and very appetizing.

Taste doesn't disappoint. A brigade of citrusy flavors float together quickly with a tiny tint of bitterness to its overall clean and fluffy citric profile. Fuzzy peach skins loom large with some pineapple and mango tang while a larger orangified profile takes control. Only slightly warm, then mellowing off easily with a bit more peach and some duller breadish and soft biscuit maltyness playing underneath. Finsihes a bit dirty within the citrus with hay and lighter cannibus twisting in some wonderful complexity late.

Medium clean body with a great additional little pull of texture into a fluffy hoppyness and a very controlled, lower-ended citrusy tone of pithy juiced bitterness. 9.3%? Huh? Where? It's only a bit warm thats really no different then some regular IPA's. A very nice attribute to have.

Odell always keeps me interested with their brews and this one definately won me over, and quickly. One exceptional Dbl. IPA!

Pours a delicious burnt orange into my Bruery snifter. A finger of creamy ivory head. Smells of tropical fruit, citrus and pine. Taste is excellent - full fruit flavor up front that tapers into a pleasant bitterness. Apricot, grapefruit, orange, peach, and pine. Medium-body mouthfeel and a solid carbonation level.

This is an incredible DIPA. Tons of flavor, balanced bitterness and nice, rich mouthfeel. I definitely put it up there with the likes of Hopslam, Pliny, Citra and all of the other great DIPAs out there.

Poured on tap into a tulip.

A - Amazing clear golden orange with 2 fingers of white bubbly head.

S - Very tropical and fruity. Massive orange notes with pineapple and grapefruit. Nice hop character in the nose.

T - Huge hop blast with similar qualities of the smell coming through. Lots of orange and tangerine. I read from somewhere that this like the Sunny D of IPAs and I can definitely confirm that! Amazing balance with not a lot of bitterness in the finish.

M - Smooth, but a little too malt forward for my liking. Doesn't subtract much for the enjoy-ability of the beer though.

O - An amazing feat of a beer by Odell. My current favorite of their offerings and one of the best IPA experiences I've had. So glad to have this year round and available near me.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Sam Adams pint.

A: Pours a slightly hazy, pale gold color with one finger of nearly white head. Very nice retention and lace.

S: Peaches and pineapple, quite good.

T: Leads with equal doses of peach and pine, very interesting combination. Then, pineapple, before a slow trailing off into light pine. Not too sweet but enough sweetness to balance the hops well. Alcohol lingers on the finish and fits in perfectly. After a few sips, nice biscuit enters the picture. Just plain delicious.

M: Light and creamy, tiny hint of oil at the end.

O: Oh my, a very tasty one. I could see myself drinking this quite often if it were available locally. Never got such a clear pineapple flavor from an IPA before-- this is really good.

12oz bottle poured into Russian River chalice. No bottle date listed. Thanks for the extra eclipse54!

A: pours a clear, yellow/gold color. No head basically, but at that ABV you shouldn't expect much. No real lacing either which is surprising.

S: amazing nose on this one! Literally a bubble of aroma around the glass once poured! Floral, fruity, delicious hop aroma! More than Pliny, dare I say....

T: the taste backs up the delicious smell! Freaking amazing! Great DIPA! Nice balance even though I would have thought from smell it would be a hop bomb. Not the case. Alcohol doesn't burn at all either, even at 9.3%

M: Medium bodied to full bodied brew. I could have a few of these, but session brew? I don't know.

O: first off, this is an awesome extra! Secondly, I must say that I put this right up there with my favorite DIPAs: Pliny, Hopslam, Maharaja, Double Jack, etc. Great brew from a solid brewery!

What a great surprise this beer is!

Poured into a pint glass at Fresh Craft Denver.

Look - crystal clear light copper champagne bubles and a nice lingering white head.
Smell - Fresh Floral, Grapefruit, savory malt, Honey? Herbs? Not sure but something unexpected and great.
Taste - Bitter not sweet citrus, Tropical fruit, Floral, more malty herbalness. A bitter dry finish. Almost like there is a touch of Rye in the Grist.
Feel - Perfect. Clingy, hangs on until you process past the fruit and get the real base character of the beer.
Overall - Read my other reviews. i hate IPA's. They really can be an excuse for self indulgent over bitter or pineapply schlocky why do I love this beer so much. Balance. Complexity. Lots I can't place but lots that makes me want to keep trying! Excellent!

A - Clear orange with small white head.

S - Wonderful citrus notes with a bit of malt as well.

T - Rush of citrus, definitely imparts a tropical character. It makes me feel like I'm gazing over a sunset beach. Then comes the sweetness of the malt and gives that finish a little apricot taste.

M - A little thicker that the average IIPA, but it works well here.

O - I really enjoy this IIPA and it is probably in my top 3 right now. I have no issue with buying this in 4 packs and enjoying several throughout the week.

Note: I reviewed this after having it fairly fresh and am just now posting it.

Poured into a Snifter...

Big thanks for DNarx for this one.

Apppearance-Golden orange with a slow rising 1 finger bubbly white head. Quickly dissipates and leaves some sticky lacing.

Smell-Pineapple, Mango, Grapefruit. Big aroma. Light piney hops. Just that standard IIPA aroma that I've come to love.

Taste-Fucking A, this is outstanding. Big pine needles upfront. Some sweet malts in the middle along with big time hopped up tropical fruits and some more pine. The finish is like your sucking on a pine needle, so good. Dry finish.

Mouthfeel-Medium bodied, perfect carbonation. Very refreshing and smooth.

Overall-Would take this beer over Pliny instantly, enough said.

Bottle poured into an XL snifter.

A - Bright, vibrant orange color with a half-inch of bright white head.

S - Pure hop heaven. Grapefruit, apricot, nectarine, raw honey, caramelized sugars, with a massive dose of citrus hops.

T - Follows the nose. No malt backbone to speak of, but this beer doesn't need it. Such an amazing profile of citrus hops. The best-tasting DIPA I have ever tried.

M - Moderate carbonation that balances the flavors nicely. The alcohol is almost completely hidden in this one, which is fairly surprising. Very creamy and delicious.

O - This is my all-around favorite beer, considering it's not prohibitively expensive. Imperial stouts are great too - but this beer is so enjoyable, delicious, and refreshing, that it is hard to match. Haven't had some of the more notorious DIPA's (pliney, hopslam, citra etc) but I will try to seek them out for comparison. I can only hope they are as good as this.

A- bright, clear, light amber color. A fantastic specimen. Pours with low carbonation for the style with a remnant of head remaining around the edge. The color is hypnotic.

S- Great hops, fruity, crisp, sweet. begs you to drink it.

T- Incredible flavor. Myrcenary's flavor is only beat by Hop Slam in my book. Full of great hop flavor, fruity, delicious. Not overly grapefruit-y, but still has a subtle citrus flavor. It is unique, and has managed to separate itself from most all other IPA's I've tried. Not incredibly malty, but oh so delicious.

M- Crisp, clean, with a lingering bitterness that sits pleasantly on the tongue. It really isn't bitter till the aftertaste, but even then, it is very pleasant and welcome. Smooth and easy to drink, especially after a long, hot day.

O- I wish I would have purchased this beer sooner. Another great brew from Odell. This is the 2nd best IIPA that I have ever had. I will be getting more. And for $10/4 pack, it is very reasonable. Do yourself a favor and get some.

A- Golden color with white head and some lacing.

S- Grapefruit! Lots of citrus and sweet malts.

T- Again, lots of citrus, fronted by grapefruit. Sweet malts balanced nicely by citrus hop bitterness.

M- Medium bodied. Smooth and not much of a dry or bitter aftertaste. 9.3% is very well hidden. I could drink a few of these in a sitting very easily.

Really wanted to attend the release for this, as I heard it was a tasty brew. But had the chance to try it on tap while on a business trip. And I must say, nice work Odell. Quality IPA.

Pours an orangish tan with a nice a nice beige head. Nose has a great belnd of floral hops and sweet malts. As does the taste. Really a great IPA. Dare I say Plinyesque? But it really is that good. Great resiny body. I love hops!

Brandished copper body with thin dirty white head. Lacing is full...lots of stick. Aroma is quite fragrant and redolent. Mint, tea leaves, calendula.... This is a great tasting DIPA. One of my favorites. Love me some Myrcene. I get mango, cannabis, bay leaves, mint, lemongrass. lavander and eucalyptus oil. Bitterness is minimal and so clean. This beer is just sooo clean in general. No sign of the high ABV on the buds. Love this stuff. Want to bathe in it.
