Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, we use dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. We named it Cutthroat Porter as our tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring. And while we’re big fans of small batches, here’s to the currently threatened Cutthroat population reaching mass quantities.

My second one gave me a better impression than the first. I bought it cold and drank the first bottle medium cold. Apparently it is more bitter when cold. Which is not good because it does not have the sweetest roasty base.
. I left it out of the fridge and drank one after work and it was not too bad. Good carbonation. I don't judge the head because I drink from the bottle. Fer shame.

Pours a black with a tan head. Smells of roasted malts and coffee, all very light scents. Tastes of tons of roasted malt, dark coffee, and bitter sweet chocolate. Medium in body and light in carbonation. Really good porter overall.

It pours dark with a light tan head, almost white. The smell is of dark roasted coffee, no chocolate presence. Feels very lite, almost watery. Hoping it would be a little bit more robust. The taste is completely lacking chocolate, not even a hint. It leaves the after taste of dark roasted coffee and water. Overall, a little disappointed, not sure why this one is rated so high.

Boy, oh boy. Try as I might, I can't get passed how flavorless this porter is. What stands out the most is how clean and refreshing the water is. Not exactly the impression a porter should give.
The smell, if you concentrate really, really hard at it, is a faint combination of roasted malts, burnt sugar and chocolate. It tastes of water, hops, water, sugar and water.
It's sessionable alright. Purely because it bears little resemblance to a porter. Disappointed with this one.

Dark brown color; lots of ruby hues when held to the light.

Nice khaki head; spotty lacing.

Nose is of oats, coffee & slight chocolate. Smells great!

Thin mouthfeel.

Taste follows the nose; the mouthfeel is a touch too thin, but otherwise this is a delight. A dark beer anyone could enjoy.

A rich dark brown with a finger of khaki head that sticks to the glass. A really nice aroma to this one. Earthy, medium dark roasted malt, a little smokiness, and a nice blend of mild coffee, and chocolate. In the flavor, nice, you get the notes at different times. A little dark dried fruit, then chocolate and coffee, dark roasted malt, earthy-slightly bitter hops, and a slight smoky flavor lingers. The feel is medium light body, like a porter should be, I think. And average carbonation, and dry, overall. At 5%, this is just a good tasting, session-able porter. Smells great, looks great, tastes great.
