I don't know where all these good reviews are coming from, it sucks, so read on if you want to know why.

A - Like the rest said, it's promising and pours well, enough head, amber in color etc

S - I really was not impressed. For a winter brew I look for strong tones of spices and whatnot, none of which is found. There are subtle hints, but nothing to really give you excitement.

T - Well, just like half of Odell's brews, it screams mediocrity. They seemed to try to throw a lot into this brew, but it just doesn't seem to balance. You can sit there and make your mind to think that there are flavors, but to be honest, the flavors that are there are too subtle to even pick out. Instead of joining all the colors to make a painting on this one, it's like they just threw them altogether and made a canvas full of brown.

M - This is one of my high points as it does feel like a winter beer. It has some weight to it and definitely will fit the winter brew category.

D - It's drinkable don't get me wrong, but I was so turned off by the taste it doesn't make it very drinkable.

I honestly want to be an Odell fan boy, honestly! They make one of the best IPA's out there, and their pale ale is not too shabby either. Inevitable it seems, every other beer of their's is just mediocre or awful. This will go on my list of "not even worth trying" brews. So, if you're out there and curious, don't waste your time. Might as well pick up a 12 of natty and at least have a good time!

Pours a deep orange with an off white head. Nice retention. Malty nose with hints of dark fruits. Some esters. The taste is mostly of caramel with a hop backbone. Great mouthfeel and a heavier winter warmer for the season. I always enjoy this beer. I like to buy a six of it every year because of it's simplicity as a holiday beer.

Amber/orange, a little bit of haze, almost an inch of head at first. Malty and floral smell and taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and medium carbonation. Very well rounded beer. All of the qualities are in sync with one another. Would make for a great sipper while sitting outside in a hot tub after a long day of skiing.

Pours a beautiful shade of copper-orange with a good inch of white head. It sticks around very well and leaves nice lacing.

Aroma sweet and tart like pears and apples. Hops are there too but it's mostly malts in the smell. Some yeasty aroma too but it's pleasant.

Flavor is sweet and bitter with a bit of tartness. It's unusual in that there doesn't seem to be any defining characteristic but it's well-balanced. There's a bit of spice to it but nothing that jumps out and screams it's name.

Mouthfeel is nice, medium bodied, good smoothness, and not overly carbonated.

Drinkability is good except that it's not exceptional in any way. Just good all around. I remember enjoying this one very much the last two years but this time it's not doing it for me. It does get better as it warms but I haven't warmed to it quite yet.

A - Amber color with some lite lacing.

S - Smells of a caramel malt with hints of spice and citrus.

T - Taste starts with earthy tones of spice and hops. Good balance of malt and hops provides a great aftertaste that lingers for a good time.

M & D - Good carbonation and enjoyable beer for the winter time season.

Bottled 3/1/07

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a sudsy head that pancakes the liquid with lots of big bubbles; some lacing

Smell: Smells like the quintessential Winter Warmer; plenty of caramel malt, almost like a spice cake with hints of citrus also wafting through

Taste: Opens with a spice cake flavor that veers in an earthy hop direction by mid-palate (very English so far); there is also a mineral tone that adds to the Englishness; after the swallow, the malt and hop flavors balance nicely and provide a hint of a leathery tobacco finish; ultimately, the hoppy elements move in a more flavorful American direction

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Christmas in July; the aging on this bottle does it no harm

Thanks to Oxymoron (even though it took me a while to get around to it) and to googzoid10 and welosiped, so that I could taste a fresher, somewhat hoppier version

This brew had aged for about a year and a half. I found it in a friend's fridge and he didn't want it.
A: nice brownish color with a slight red hue with patchy lace
S: a strong malt aroma had developed from the aging.
T: extremely strong malt flavor, very warm and inviting. a hint of christmas spice linger behind the malt that has developed.
M: medium body with a heavy carbonation
D: since the weather has been warm I couldn't drink more than one or two. but in the winter, I could definitely climb into a six pack for the evening.

This brew from Odell pours a dark amber color with a thick tan head. Not too much happening in the nose. There are some sweet candy malts and faint spices. I was glad to see a little more spice in the flavor profiel to comliment the seet malts. A medium body that has good carbonation. A drinkable winter warmer, just not as full as I like to see.

Thanks goes out to Bitterbill for this brew.

Pours a nice slight hazy golden amber color, nice tiny fizzy off-white head, nice carbonation, not much sticky lacing to follow. The nose is malty, some nutmeg, spices, and caramel. The taste is malty, slight spice, nutmeg, and caramel. There is a nice bitterness to this brew. Medium body. Drinkable, this is a very tasty winter warmer, recommended. Thanks Bill, I've been wanting to try this one for quite awhile.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a pint glass the liquid is quite dark and has good carbonation. The head is 2 fingers of dark tan fluff and leaves very good lace.

The smell is faint yet evident of a nice roasty malt.

The taste is great, roasty malt and a very good toasted caramel flavor, nice and rich. The hops lend a very nice finish.

The mouthfeel is very good as well better then medium body and good carbonation.

The drinkability is very good, you need to try this brew to be sure. Prosit und Zum Wohl., MK

12 oz bottle as a trade extra.. sweet.. this is one Colorado beer that doesnt seem to make it to Arizona. perhaps soon (i hope)

Pours a ruby tinted amber with some haziness to it. a rocky, off white foamy head stays for half the glass then dissipates to a thick ring that continues to lace very nicely.

smell is of sweet maltiness with a touch of hop flower.

Taste is sweet, vanilla cake, caramel-ish, with a slightly bitter (but well balanced) floral hop to offset the sweetness.

This has enough carbonation to keep it from being cloying on the tongue with the sweet profile, but not so much it is any detriment.

I could session this winter warmer all night, and would consider making it a winter staple in my fridge if it was available locally. Perhaps i will have to work on my beer guy next winter!

a very good winter warmer.. a sleeper in the category.

A - This one is a stunning shade of clear brilliant ruby like Dorothy's shoes. A one finger khaki head rises above the shimmering hues, and quickly fades to a collar, but leaves some spotty lace behind. A quick swirl brings back a full finger of creamy head.

S - Cherry hard candy, brown sugar, caramel, and Chic-O-Stix candy....remember those? Plump cherries are very prevalent, along with some gooey cherry and strawberry hard candies. Not a lot of "beer smells," but it's really nice nonetheless.

T - Earthy mud and 'shrooms with some underlying fruitiness. Jammy, gritty, lightly fruity, and buttery. I'm reminded of marmalade and toast. Its a little soapy and funky, but funky can be good!

M - Incredibly soft and supple. Velvety and creamy. Almost no carbonation here other than what creates the foamy full body in my mouth. The finish is neutral and earthy with a trace of muddy outdoorsy hops.

D - This is one odd brew. I'm not really sure what to think. I don't really think that I'd ever really buy a six-pack, but it's worth trying since it's so unique and earthy. I really don't like mineral flavors in my beer, and this has it in spades.

Thanks mmtmatrix for this brew.

12oz. brown bottle poured into a Double Bastard tumbler(why not?). No dating.

A: Pours a ruby amber with good visibility. Decent pearl white head that's a bit fizzy. Carbonation seems high. Not much lacing.

S: Plenty of malts to go around. Smells of cinnamon bread. Other holiday spices but I can't really pick them out.

T/M: Spice galore. More muddled spices but I can pick out cinnamon with a super sweet brown sugar. A bit of cola on the side. Body is a bit light for my liking in a winter warmer.

D: Not a terrible brew, doesn't taste bad. Nothing spectacular.

Pours a clear dark ruby with some head. Nose has syrup tones with heavy malt edges and a sweet edge. Flavor is robust. Hops present, but not powerfully there. Sweet edge is present and is slightly syrupy on the tongue after it dissipates. Feel is smooth with a touch of bubble. Extremely drinkable. An excellent winter warmer.

12 oz brown bottle with bottle code "02 2008"

a: Orange/gold amber with white head and small patches of lacing.

s: Citrus hops and honey.

t: Honey, toffee, piney hops.

m: Average carbonation, medium body, smooth, clean finish.

d: Quite drinkable, a simple, enjoyable beer.
Maybe a bit underwelming.
This beer is priced above odell's everyday line and for the price, I would rather have a cutthroat porter or 90 shilling.

This was one of the first winter six-packs I bought this year-- back in early October.

Poured a deep reddish color, with a good amount of head. Left a nice lacing on the glass as I drank.

Malty and slightly sweet up front and on the finish; not a lot of hop presence at all.

I like that it is a fuller-bodied "winter warmer," but doesn't have the spices that so many winter beers have. I prefer a lot of hops in my beer-- even the winter ones-- so will not purchase this one again.

For the non-hop lover who likes a smooth, fairly rich and drinkable, more malty ale, this one would fit the bill.

A - Poured out a light burgandy color with a white, foamy, one-finger head. It left small traces of lace.

S - It smelled of malt and grassy hops.

T - It tasted bittersweet with a nice hoppy and malty quality.

M - It was crisp and sharp. A medium-bodied beer.

D - A pretty good winter warmer. There are better, but this one will certainly do the trick.

I was not very impressed by this beer. It had barely a whiff of hops, had a fair amount of malt character, a touch of sweetness, and a lot of rusty-tasting iron at the finish. If that sounds like a good time to you, by all means buy tons of this beer, but I was hardly taken with it.

Appearance was beautiful; a nice copper red with abundant head. Aroma was non-existent. Flavor was definitely not outstanding...some maltiness, some sweetness, some rustiness, but nothing stands out. Mouthfeel was a bit thin and disappointing. I would not recommend this beer.

I missed this one last year so I bought some as soon as I saw it. It has a nice caramel-red color with a bubbly malty, sweet cereal smell. Nice big mouthfeel, taste is weird, malty, malty, malty. Coats the tongue really well, some mild spice in the back. Can't really detect hops in this one.

I really enjoy Odell's offerings. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of this style. I remember last year trying Hibernation and Old Jubilation as my first Winter Warmers. Those were big beers and maybe I was expecting more here. I would say that this is a bit more drinkable than those others, but I'm not sure if that is the point of this usually higher ABV style.

A - this winter warmer pours a clear, crisp, brown with a thin tan head

S - a strong hoppy backbone in the aroma, with some buttery elements, with a great balance of rich roasted malts

T - hoppy and malty, a great and perfect balance, with a subtle nondescript sweetness, a great layered flavor, rather nice flavor, a great winter beer, a great winter session beer

M&D - smooth, and rather palatable, a quality winter warmer, wish it was more available on the east coast

12oz. bottle thanks to jhammerly

Pours a hazy amber-brown with a small white head that fades. Mild spotty lacing on the glass.

Aroma is caramel malty with mild nutty and cocoa tones.

Taste is malty upfront with a light toasted nuttiness and some hints of cocoa. Some spices become present at the finish, and leave a dull lingering aftertaste.

A decent winter warmer and easily drinkable while sitting by the fire.

A - Medium browm/bronze with light head formation. Minimal carbonation.

S - Toasted grain, flowery

T - Cereal grains prevail. Add a little milk, and you get a bowl of liquid Crispix.

M - For this style of beer, I found it to be relatively light, almost on the thin side. It doesn't cloy the palate as some others might.

D - I found this beer to be somewhat average. Nothing about it really jumped out at me. It's not a bad brew, but neither is it all that impressive.
