Type: 16-oz. draft
Glass: Clear pint glass
From: Monkey Paw Brewing in San Diego, Calif.
Price: $3.75
Purchased: April 6, 2016
Consumed: April 6, 2016
Misc.: Brewed for the Padres’ season-opening series with the Dodgers
Love the name and decided I had to try it once I saw that it was a one-off and I might not get to try it again. Only good things come out of Monkey Paw and I expect nothing less here.
Poured a yellow, golden, hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy, white head when I got it. Great spiderweb, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled dry hops initially. Also Mosaic, dankness, tropical hops, mango rind, resin hops, Galaxy hops and trash. Reminding me of Modern Times’ Hooloomooloo. (Smell - 3.50)
Tasted much better than the nose, getting dank Mosaic, tropical hops, tangerine peel, grapefruit pulp, mango and pineapple. (Taste - 4.00)
Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, danky finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This one grew me on a bit as it went down. I’d have it again. (Overall - 3.75)
