Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
For 2013′s Santa’s Pet Monkey, our holiday offering, we engineered a big roasty stout in the tradition of an RIS. This beer weighs in at 10% but you would never know it. The flavor and aroma is dominated by rich coffee and a smooth nuttiness that is backed up by notes of toffee and caramel. The finish leans towards the dry side, a touch we applied to compensate for our sweltering winters here in America’s Finest Beer City.

Near black in the tall tulip with a thin cap of foam. A drier style of what I would call a Double Porter. Big coffee flavor though I can't tell if it's an addition or some malt artifact.

Seriously charred grainy flavors. A touch of malt and a winey taste. More bitter than a lot of porters. The creamy carbonation lasts to the bottom of the glass. Sharp and tangy with a big alcohol presence.

A more austere type of dark brew but big and tasty. Some burnt toast and malty rich flavors round out the mix. On tap at Local Habit.

On tap at Monkey Paw. Described as an Imperial Chocolate Porter aged on cocoa nibs and vanilla beans.

A: A dark brown bordering on black with a finger of light brown froth that lingers and eventually settles to a thin collar.

S: Decadent fudge and dark chocolate with accompanying vanilla (light) and earth. Roasted grains meet a faint dark fruit presence

T: Rich cocoa and dark chocolate with lighter notes of vanilla. Faintly earthy, with roasted grains and a lower bitterness. The cocoa is very nice but the vanilla is just a little too mellow to push it above a 4.0 for flavor.

M: Lower full body with lower medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is sticky and just a touch thin.

Overall: Another nice beer from Monkey Paw. A thicker mouthfeel and an increase in the vanilla presence would make this outstanding.
