16 oz can courtesy of MAD KHALIL THE BEER HUNTER poured into Belgian ale glass. No date. I'm a tad skeptical on age, as always.

L: Big head does not alleviate my concern. We're talking well over 3F, with medium retention, leaving no lacing, and eventually just a thin ring. Beer is a darkish red-amber.

S: Sour cherries, yeast, malt, roughly in that order.

T: Yeah, I think this is a bit past prime. Sour cherries up front, with yeasty and Bretty notes following. Some bready malts. Finish not too sour, I would say mid-range. Could see this being lights-out fresh; not too bad now, just muted.

F: Light to medium body, more chewy than appropriate for style. Medium to strong carbonation, key for drying and sour not lasting on palate. Construction and balance good.

F: Perfectly decent sour.

First had: on tap at the brewery

I think I can safely say this was the best beer I sampled at Burley Oak. Deep ruddy brown pour, seemed fairly hazy in the darker light of the room, a small wispy head receded to a ringlet; minimal lacing if any at all. Aroma of tart cherries and some lacto sourness, with hints of acetic acid and bready malt sweetness. Taste of natural cherry and cherry candy, about middle of the road on the sourness scale, with some fruity sweetness coming in as well, crisp, with a non-offensive hint of vinegar, wet grass, vague traces of toffee-like malts. Surprisingly tasty. Medium body, nice drinkability. Very good overall.

Dark amber and nearly clear. Small head that recedes to rim bubbles. Little lace.

Mild, dark, sour cherry aroma. Surprisingly mild smell.

Starts with a neutral "brown ale" base. Lip smacking tartness on the finish. This reminds me of the Flemish red ales. The body is light with a neutral effervescence, like the style predicts. Long aftertaste of dark, tart cherries.
