Traded for this ages ago but not sure when as there wasn't anything legible written on the bottom of the can. I've had a few of Burley Oak's beers in the Other Half line over the years but this was the first one that I was able to pour out and review here at home. Sure, if you like apricot and raspberry, then this would be up your alley, but it felt just a bit too gimmicky for me to rate any higher. On a summer night such as this, I found it refreshing as it easily hit the spot...

As expected, the hue of this beer was a blood orange mix of the apricot and raspberry that was quite muted in appearance. A boisterous, lively topping of bubbles capped this off but it settled just as fast as I poured it out of the can! That was a indicator of the lacing, which was completely nonexistent as I sipped this, and the sediment at the bottom of the liquid was also nearly impossible to detect. Tart and syrupy, the nose had fruit in it with mild hints of lactose sweetness as well as the taste picked up from where that left off as this felt quite fresh and lively throughout! Nicely slick and a bit too thick for me, this was a bit too thick but certainly enjoyable enough down to the last sip!

The low amount of alcohol in this only added to this beer's ease of enjoyment as it didn't take long for me to finish this off. Like the Milkshake beers from Tired Hands, any of the J.R.E.A.M. offerings from Burley Oak should almost be placed into a category of it's own. If you like Wild Ales that equally could be considered a Fruit / Vegetable beer, then seek this out! This was a lot of fun to have...

Look: Jammy red, with two fingers off light pink head. It looks like wine. It's a gorgeous looking beer.

Smell: Tart jammy Raspberry, tart cherry candy, cranberries, fresh apricot, a hint of barnyard, like dry straw. It smells like tart fruit juice. It's a 5 on the nose, my mouths watering!

Taste: Wow! This is sour. Your taste buds are immediately attacked by sour candy. It's like bitting into a warhead. Upfront it's just straight up sour Raspberry and cherries, it transitions to the mid palate where you pick up some of that apricot while that Raspberry and cherry turn more into a jammy like flavor giving some sweetness to mix with the intense sourness of the beer. You also get this nice underlining crackeryness coming through. In the finish you get a little bit of a vinegar flavor showing its self as well as some of that barnyard, dry hay flavor I picked up on the nose. Also get more complex berry notes, it's like cranberry juice. The aftertaste is a mix of sour and jammy Raspberry along with fresh apricot. The flavor is nothing short of spectacular!

Feel: Medium body, perfect amount of carbonation. The beer drys out pretty fast as well. The mouthfeel is perfect for the ABV and style.

Overall: If this isn't a 5/5 I don't know what is. This is one of the most sour beers I've ever had, while still having a lot of complexity to it. This is incredible!

Poured into a Teku glass from the can release (9/23/17)

Appearance: A very pale red almost pink with minimal head that quickly fades. The beer is opaque due to the 3lbs of fruit per gallon.

Aroma: Apricot aroma is subtle, very raspberry forward. Smells like a bushel of raspberries was crushed in my glass. Mild hints of sourness can be detected.

Taste: Tons of raspberry flavor with a bit of perceived sweetness from the lactose and a sour finish. Very complex flavor.

Mouthfeel: Nicely carbonated with a full body.

Overall: A nice addition to the J.R.E.A.M. Series. At 4.8% its very easy to have a couple. Its a refreshing beverage.

Not too strong of an apricot presence; this is definitely raspberry-forward. A good thing, as I do not like the floral aroma and flavor that I've noticed in apricot beers previously. Another delicious entry in the J.R.E.A.M. series.
