650ml bomber poured into tulip 27/6/12

A clear reddish orange with a solid two finger light pink head that retains quite well and leaves a few specks of lace

S reminds me of a fruity breakfast cereal mixed with a jolly rancher, smells pretty good with a large blast of raspberry but leaning towards the fake variety

T there's that Phillips house flavor again that I just can't shake after picking it up a while back, slightly tart raspberry and under-ripe strawberry and wheat, a small step back from the smell

M slightly tart and just a little sticky on the lips, leaves a fair bit of grit behind on the gums but somehow slick on the tongue and just a little foamy

O decent but not great, flavors a little synthetic but still very easy to drink on this warm but windy Summer day

Not the best fruit beer I've ad but nothing to be ashamed of and I don't see a reason for the low overall rating, my lady liked it so whatever gets her drinking beer is OK with me

650ml bottle. The new label is a vast improvement over the existent BA one - it reminds me of the local pick your own raspberries concern.

This beer pours a clear, bright reddish-orange amber hue, with two fingers of foamy pale pink head, which leaves a solid wall of painted lace around the glass as it duly recedes.

It smells of raspberry tarts, doughy and fruity in the proper amounts, and some green foliage essence that leads one to thoughts of certain hops and summers well spent. The taste is primarily bready, grainy, and somewhat wheaty malt, a nicely enveloping raspberry fruitiness, and softly zingy leafy and weedy hops.

The carbonation is oh so low, enough to be considered inert, the body an adequate medium weight, and smooth as a newborn baby's bottom. It finishes sweet, the raspberry and solid wheat malt sharing the main bill; everything else just seems like chaff in the wind - not a bad thing whatsoever.

Overall, a pleasant raspberry ale, and so much more than a standard APWA, as depicted here. Sweet, sure, but in a moderated sense, i.e., I could surely have another round of this, given the heat of day, and all that.

A - slightly hazy berry red, one finger of pink head retained at a thin covering with sparse lacing
S - fresh raspberry jam, grainy raw wheat, buttery bread
T - big kick of sweet raspberries and sugar, grainy and buttery, hint of leafy hops, there are serious about featuring raspberries in this one
M - light with somewhat prickly carbonation, finishes tart and a little dry
O - i'm a big fan of raspberries, and obviously beer, and i like what they've done here, it's heavily tilted to a sweet raspberry flavour which is not going to please everyone, but I'm digging it

Appearance: Cute reddish opaque color similar to a rosé, but with a contrasting white lacing.

Smell: Very faint red fruit aroma with a bit of an acidic twang and a wheaty side to it as wel, like cranberry juice in oatmeal. It took a while for the aromas to develop.

Taste: Nail polish, crushed aspirin, with a bad homebrew kit watery finish. A tiny speck of fruit near the tail end, but not enough for me to enjoy this.

A- The color is quite spectacular....that being a deep copper brown with red tinges....the head is very well retained, is quite dense and soap like and loving the color, which is white with pink hues involved! The lacing is quite mild to moderate....the foam tries to cling but doesn't quite make it....too hard to tell what the carbonation is like in the murk!

S- Full on fresh raspberries take front of the line in the aroma! There is a creamy, yeasty quality that reminds me fully of raspberry creamsicleand a fresh grainy wheat malt presence, along with the sweet barley malt to help compliment the mild tartness of the berries. Hop bitterness is minimal on the finish or throughout period....very nice smells in general.

T- Tart raspberry flavors that remind me of freshly picked fruit straight from the orchard! Biscuit like creamy yeasty bread like smoothness....somewhat dry grains due to the wheat and balancing sweet barley malt help round this out on the palate....the finish is slightly bittering but it's not very overpowering.

M/O- Solid medium body, and super refreshing! This is a great summertime beer, however, it is well enjoyed even on a cool breezy night in November.....the alcohol is tucked away and the fresh fruit nature along with sweet malts and creamy yeast make this almost dessert like on it's own and is paired nicely with a raspberry/lemon cake! Recommended!

Appearance. Pours a hazy pink-orange with a finger of thick pale pink head that fades pretty quick.

Smell. Rasberry juice, a little toasted wheat and grassy hops.

Taste. Tart rasberry, toasted wheat, and a little herby hops.

Mouthfeel. Light body and a medium, bubbly carbonation.

Overall. Decent real rasberry taste. Would be fine on a hot day.

This warm-weather seasonal balances the fruit and wheat components nicely. It pours a lovely pink-tinged color and has a pleasant, natural raspberry aroma. There's just the right amount of raspberry on the palate, too, with a tart, dry finish to make this super-refreshing and easy-drinking.

After the poor experience I had with the other two Phillips I had sampled I was already a little wary about even trying this one. However it was this Raspberry Wheat that first caught my eye on the shelf, and the one I had wanted to try the most. And yes, sometimes there are happy endings...

Pours out of its 500 ml brown bottle an intense hazy deep pink hue, comparable to the appearance of grapefruit cocktail fruit juice. Nice fizzy pinkish head that falls back to a small foamy ring. Aroma is all raspberries up front, the faintest bit of malt in teh background. Flavour is light wheat blended with raspberries, no complexity here. Very thin watery mouthfeel, this is an easy drinker, but pretty boring as well. Perhaps a decent lawnmower beer. The raspberry flavour is nice, but needs something else to hold it up or accompany it.

I picked up a bottle of this to try. Figured what the hey.

It came in a brown 650ml bottle. I was surprised to pour it and see its red. Well it says its made with raspberry's heh.

Looks like a dark rose, (copper colored when held to the light) It has good clarity. It also has an off white head that recedes quickly.

When I initially smelt it I was not impressed. It's faint and not especially pleasant.

I almost regretted buying it after that but thankfully the taste was better than the smell. What an interesting taste. Not the the typical wheat beer taste. I actually don't find it to be very beer like at all. I can pick up the fruityness of the berrys. A faint sweetness. But it also seems kinda washed out or too watery.

Overall Id say its not bad and certainly drinkable. But I have to say it has the potential to be better.

Phillips Brewing "Raspberry" American Pale Wheat Ale @ 5.0% served cold from a 650 ml bottle
A-pours a raspberry red with an big off white/pink head leaving large pink lacing along the weizen glass
S-sweet floral , earthy , grassy
T-sweet cream soda pop , tart finish
MF-pop like carbonation , light on the palate
Ov-the sweet raspberry flavour will make this an easy drinking summer beer for some of us (my Mom likes it) , just a tad too sweet for my taste buds this summer

cheers LampertLand

A: Hazy reddish-orange; fluffy, slightly pink head; very little retention or lace.

S: Tarte raspberry (plenty of acidity), peachy fruityness, funkier than anticipated.

T: Plenty of tart acidity & raspberry; not my style (simply overwhelms my palate). Definitely not a sweet fruit beer!

M: Light to moderate body is very acidic & dry; Moderately high carbonation.

D: Not my style & difficult to finish... but a nice effort at something different!

Appearance- Pours a ruby red with a finger width of off white slightly pink head that recedes quickly.

Smell-Raspberries, light wheat and grains, lemon, grassy hops.

Taste- Starts with raspberries. Quite tart, not what the smell would make you believe. It is then followed by the wheat, and grains. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A tad thin.

Overall- An authentic raspberry wheat ale. Phillips does this justice by allowing the taste to be natural vs artificial flavours. An excellent summer refresher.
