Hardywood Foolery is a huge Imperial Stout aged for eight months in bourbon barrels. Massive chocolate, vanilla, and caramel flavors are preceded by aromatic hints of dark cherry, tobacco, leather and oak. Thick and rich, Foolery brings rounded bourbon character contributions from the barrels and a nice warming finish.

Sampled at Cigar City Brewing’s El Catador Club XV bottle share party.
Pours almost flat, barely any head or glass lacing.
Aroma is dark stone fruit, barrel, pipe tobacco.
Flavor is a different animal. It leads with dry dark 70% cacao chocolate that reduces into the character of the oak bourbon barrel. The good woodsyness then fades to vanilla caramel and finishes with a sweet, but not cloying, alcohol bite.
Mouthfeel is dessert territory thick. Being a 2019 vint, almost all carbonation has been swalowed up by the ingredients combo.
Overall, right fine brew!

Really great. So much barrel character to this one. This one was moderately sweet- Nothing compared to some of the stuff being produced now. Not sure which year this one was as I didn’t see it listed on the bottle. Hope to get to try again

Wow - this is a stunner. Probably the best BA milk stout I've ever had. Balance is perfect. Barrel character is there, but dialed back. I know Hardywood is well regarded, but they should be higher on the hype list if they are making beers like this.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown / black color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a small amount of creamy, tan-colored head that lasted a below average amount of time. Pretty good lacing.
S: A very nice aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, dark fruit, bourbon, and vanilla.
T: Tasted of a good shot of bourbon (and the accompanying barrel, a moderate amount of roasted malt, some cherry notes, a hint of vanilla, a little caramel, and a ton of chocolate. An extremely complex, aggressive, powerful flavor. The booze isn't all that noticeable. Well-balanced and tasty.
F: A fair amount of carbonation with a silky smooth finish. Full-bodied.
O: This is an incredibly well made and flavorful beer. Very much drinkable.
