Notes:
Hardywood Foolery is a huge Imperial Stout aged for eight months in bourbon barrels. Massive chocolate, vanilla, and caramel flavors are preceded by aromatic hints of dark cherry, tobacco, leather and oak. Thick and rich, Foolery brings rounded bourbon character contributions from the barrels and a nice warming finish.

This beer is amazing fresh. Great milk stout recipe. Color and motor oil, sweet smell with bits of coffee, vanilla, and sweet chocolate, tastes great with notes of honey, an amazing balance between the stout and the barrel, drinks great for a 14% beer with minimal heat.
Batch 2 is on par with the first. More bottles though which means more Virginia traders flooding the market with their beer! Oh wait...I'm from Virginia. Sorry, please disregard. Trade with me! Trade with me!

Trickery base aged in bourbon barrels. Look is almost motor oil black with present carbonation and tan coffeelike head. Smells of bourbon toffee sweet molasses and coffee. At 14% abv it is hidden very well... Not as hot as trickery. Taste is full of caramel tobacco and perfectly balanced bourbon notes. Overall one of my favorite bba stouts. Definitely best of the best of stouts coming out of VA. Worth seeking out.

Wonderful beer by Hardywood , the bourbon barrels really come thru. Doesn't taste like 14%. Just as good if not better than Trickery.

I'm just not that into H'wood's barrel program. Balance is always towards the booze.

Thanks to my buddy Greg for sharing this 4/11/15. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Immediate strong smells of bourbon barrel, molassess...looks delicious! Surprising this is 14% because no overpowering alcohol taste....Nice sweet taste from this milk stout...nothing was overpowering, very very nicely balanced. Nice silky feel. Another awesome beer from Hardywood...could be the best I've had from them so far (gives GBS a run!)

The next day and I can still taste this coating the inside of my cheeks and I can still smell this in my nostrils. The finish on this beer is insane. I can't get this beer out of my tastebuds. The body on this beer is one of the largest I have ever had. One day later and I am craving more. Lots of bourbon. Lots of heat. The milk stout base helps smooth out the finish with minimal burn. The bourbon hits first with some notes of coffee, then the chocolate and molasses and the vanilla creaminess at the end. The lingering finish is leather, tobacco, wood and smokey. Extremely manly and musky on the finish.
I preferred the Trickery to this, but mainly because there are so many bourbon barrel beers and not as many apple brandy barrel beers.

Tried this on tap at the brewery. It pours a thick black with a brown thin head. Coats the glass like oil. The smell is heavy on molasses and vanilla. Booziness and bourbon very apparent in the taste but smooth and not too overpowering. Again the molasses and vanilla are very bold. Overall a fantastic beer.

Wonderful chocolate notes (maybe a hint of vanilla), but overall a smooth delicious sweet stout that left me wanting much more after my glass was empty.
