Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singel’s tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singel’s mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience.

Hardywood Singel's stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

This brew has pros and cons. Good news first: Looks nice, bright yellow gold and fluffy white head. Smells yeasty, a little hops, and significant peppery notes. The taste of the belgian yeast is good, super unfiltered and raw, nice crisp hops and pepper flavors.

All that said, there's something off. I feel like the flavors in this beer don't come together cohesively. It feels like a standard blonde ale brewed with belgian yeasts. This yeast profile is good, but feels out of place, like its all I can taste, not working with the hops or the malt at all. The pepper flavors are nice, reminiscent of a farmhouse, but same thing here, it just seems like it's from a different beer.

All that to say, I really liked the flavors in this beer, but the overall experience seemed to not come together. I'd love to drink some more, though, and see if it comes together more for me.

Beautiful looking beer!
Cloudy golden blonde body with a white soap bubble head. Plenty of little bubbles stream up from the bottom along the edges of the glass.
Great Belgian yeast aroma with a nice amount of sweetness on the nose; a little pineapple, some lemony citrus.
Taste pairs well with the nose. Belgian yeast funkiness and some lemon.
Nice amount of carbonation with that dry lemony finish.
Very nice beer indeed! Super tasty and one I would think would go great on a hot summer day by the pool.
