Notes / Commercial Description:
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singel’s tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singel’s mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience.

Hardywood Singel's stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

Fluffy and growing head. Good spotty lace. Pale gold color.

Sour apple smell, like a cyber. Light hop spice with even lighter Belgian yeast nose.

Thinnish body with a sharp carbonation. Less sour than the smell, but more biting from the hop. The yeast flavor is present but muted. Pale malt finish with some hoppy bitterness.

Brown bottle with packaged date 01/18/16 (hard to read, black ink on brown glass), poured into glass. Brownish gold color, a bit murky (unfiltered), so-so white head. Nice yeasty aroma with mild balanced hops. Taste, definitely staying with the Belgian ale character, though that seems to emerge from the malts after a bit rather than be right up front. Some of the expected yeasty / fruity mix, with nicely integrated alcohol and hops for a tingle, and pleasant clean mouthfeel with a slight creaminess. Could be fruitier, though. Some mild hoppy aftertaste.

An easy to drink lighter version of a triple. Good but not amazing. Great for a warm day.

Got this as part of a mystery variety six pack at Trader Joes for $8. I was extremely happy with the beers that were included in the pack and was excited to try this one in my new tulip glass! Here we go.

Look: Pours a fluffy and outrageous foamy white head on top of a cloudy dandelion-gold shimmering body. When held to the light a core of brightness glows like the sun, powerful and mysterious.

Smell: Yeasty, peppery, phenolic and clove like aroma with a nice banana character. Smells like a nice yeasty Belgian alright.

Taste: Peppery, mildy sweet, and a burst of lemon head hops. Very delicious and light but bursting with character. Somewhat chalky note as well.

Feel: This beer is super smooth and silky. The carbonation perks up at the end leading to a dry finish.

Overall: This is just what I was in the mood for, nice and refreshing Belgian Pale. This beauty really shined in my new tulip, too.

Looks great in my Duvel tulip! Straw yellow to golden in color and lightly hazy with obvious carbonation. A 3 1/2 finger whitish head becomes chunky, and clingy at the edge as it recedes, Almost no lacing.

Spicy and a little earthy on the aroma. Pineapple, citrus, coriander and maybe a bit of clove.

Sweet malts and spicy yeast dominate the taste. Earthiness is more evident here with light fruity/citric flavors with clove and a bitterness reminiscent of grapefruit rind.

Moderate in body with a bite of near frothy carbonation. Very drying, to the point of feeling almost chalky.

Hardywood has yet to disappoint me. Singel is full of character with great taste, aroma and body. I wouldn't hesitate to try this again.
