Notes / Commercial Description:
Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and uninhibited, Hardywood Singel is a feat in balance. Sunshine golden with a fluffy head and a veil of Belgian ale yeast, Singel’s tropical fruit esters complement its spicy hop aromatics. Delicate in body, Singel’s mellow, dry finish culminates a truly ethereal experience.

Hardywood Singel's stylistic inspiration originates with the Trappist brewers of western Europe, who are often celebrated for their gloriously complex dubbels and tripels, and whose devotion to crafting heavenly libations is second to none. Unknown to many, some of the Trappist brewers also brew a milder ale for daily consumption within the walls of the monastery. Hardywood Singel is our interpretation of this style.

Clear pale straw color. Small creamy white head. Smells of yeast and malts. Tastes of sweet malts, heavy on yeast, slight hop bitterness. Light bodied, moderate carbonation. Dry, slightly bitter finish.

Look: Pours a nice golden yellow color with good white head and nice lacing

Smell: Yeast, banana, pepper, some malt sweetness

Taste: Nice fruity flavors, slightly medicinal, herbal hops, pepper, crackery malt, strong yeast

Feel: Light body, full carbonation, dry finish

Overall: An excellent interpretation of the style, will need to find more next time I'm in VA.

Had this on draft at the brewery. Had a slightly sweet taste from the Belgian yeast with a fruity finish. Mildly carbonated and has very little alcohol in the finish. Fair interpretation of the style.

Sorry, i just wasn't too impressed. Draft: This pours a slightly hazy yellow with sour amd alcohol notes in the aroma. Head is white and sticky. I can taste the light malt but this is interrupted by the sour taste. Not strong enough to be called a sour, but not clean enough to be a pale. IDK, maybe Ithe bar gave me a dirty glass. Not too impressed. However, beers, like people, often deserve a second chance. Alas, until another night.

This brew has pros and cons. Good news first: Looks nice, bright yellow gold and fluffy white head. Smells yeasty, a little hops, and significant peppery notes. The taste of the belgian yeast is good, super unfiltered and raw, nice crisp hops and pepper flavors.

All that said, there's something off. I feel like the flavors in this beer don't come together cohesively. It feels like a standard blonde ale brewed with belgian yeasts. This yeast profile is good, but feels out of place, like its all I can taste, not working with the hops or the malt at all. The pepper flavors are nice, reminiscent of a farmhouse, but same thing here, it just seems like it's from a different beer.

All that to say, I really liked the flavors in this beer, but the overall experience seemed to not come together. I'd love to drink some more, though, and see if it comes together more for me.
