Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewed in the style of the farmhouse ales of Belgium's southern countryside, Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin utilizes a blend of rye, wheat and barley in the grain bill, earthy flavoring hops and a classic saison yeast. Ripe, flame roasted Virginia sugar pumpkins and brown sugar provide a hearty backbone to this 8.5% ABV beer. Freshly ground Ceylon cinnamon, whole Grenada nutmeg, whole Madagascar clove and whole allspice harmonize with pounds of freshly sliced organic ginger root.

A beautiful hue of autumn russet, Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin displays a voluminous head, with a bouquet of aromatic fresh spice. Medium to full in body, this ale offers a balanced flavor of caramelized pumpkin and pie spices, with a lingering finish laced with a hint of fresh ginger.

My first Hardywood Park beer.Poured into a large tulip glass a deep burnt orange/amber with a one finger slight off white crown atop.Doughy notes on the nose along with pumpkin pie spice and light earthy/yeasty phenols.Love rich feel and flavors of this beer, earthy and spicy along with roasted pumpkin, clove, and nutmeg wich isn't overdone. To me this a near perfect pumpkin ale, more brewers should do the Belgian farmhouse/pumpkin thing.A fantastic beer.

Great balance between real pumpkin flavor and Belgian yeast character. The spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon blend perfectly with the spicy Belgian yeast notes. Overall very drinkable and delicious, this is definitely one pumpkin ale that I would buy a whole six pack of.

Mildly funky aroma with less fink in the still very complex flavor. Surprisingly lively and tingly carbonation. Spicy but not so much as to mask the malts and pumpkin.

750 ml bottle, poured into a goblet

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, golden amber color with deep orange hues, and two fingers of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very aromatic with big aromas of bready, toasted malt, imparting notes of pumpkin and ginger bread, candied sugar, Belgian yeast, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices, such as brown sugar, nutmeg, ginger, all-spices, cinnamon and clove. Smells delicious, festive and inviting.

Taste: Just as delicious as the beer’s aroma! Lots of bready, toasted malt, up front, followed by tons of pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices, such as nutmeg, ginger, all-spices, cinnamon and clove, as well as Belgian yeast, brown sugar-like sweetness. Complex and deep in flavor. Reminds me of a Belgian saison, but with pumpkin and pumpkin pie-spices, which I expect is what the brewery was going for.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and nicely carbonated. With an ABV of 8.5%, there is no alcohol on the palate; it’s really well masked.

Overall: This is an excellent beer! Very saison-like with lots of pumpkin and pumpkin pie-spices. Delicious! I’ll certainly get this again next year!

Acquired this via trade.....
A - Poured a golden brown, lighter than most pumpkin ales.
S - Very mild pumpkin aroma,
T - This is a lighter beer with a pumpkin flavor. Spices do not dominate.
M - Medium mouth feel
O - Wow I like this beer! I would call this a wonderfully balanced amber pumpkin ale. This may be the 2nd best pumpkin beer I've tasted in 2014.

Different take on a pumpkin beer. It is good and tastes pretty much like you would expect something called a 'farmhouse pumpkin ale' to taste. Nothing exceptional, but a good and unique beer.
