Notes / Commercial Description:
They say some of the best inventions were created by mistake. That was certainly the case with Hardywood Belgian DIPA. Originally intended as the base beer for Hoplar, our wood aged American-style double IPA, this beer was fermented with the Belgian abbey-style ale yeast we use with Hardywood Singel. The resulting beer offers the assertive hoppy bitterness of Hoplar with the fruity, spicy character of Singel. An accident, yes, but a delicious one, indeed!

When I asked if this one had a name they said "it was a mistake" and a small batch so it intrigued me. The hoplar IPA they make was accidentally fermented with the yeast strain they use for their singel which is a Belgian pale ale.

A: thin head on a murky crimson with slight golden hues body. Nice lacing.

S: fruity with mostly banana and pineapple. mild yeast mustiness and breads.

T: Very nice malt presence up front. Actually remind me more of a Belgian dark strong ale. Fruitness is just right and is well balanced by earthy hops. Caramel malts, bubble gum and candied fruits notes throughout as well.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation. Starts crisp and finishes smooth.

Overall: Nicely balanced beer. It has the right hop degree for the style. A happy accident as it turns out. This is a great young, up and coming brewery.

NOTE: this one was also on the randle ran through cascade hops and lemon. This version obviously has a stronger floral hop aroma with mint and lemon notes. The flavor is very different with lemon providing sweet and sour notes which are obvious but not at all overwhelming. The lemon adds an interesting mint note as well when integrated with the base beer.
