Brewed with wheat, a touch of rye and a ton (yes, a whopping 2,000 lbs. in a 40-barrel batch) of fresh, ripe strawberries grown by Agriberry at the Chesterfield Berry Farm just 30 miles from the brewery, Hardywood Virginia Strawberry is a fruit beer in all its glory. The color of a southern sunset, with a refreshingly delicate body, Hardywood Virginia Strawberry finishes with a hint of tartness and an irresistibly quenching character that makes it the perfect summertime libation.

A: A beautiful orange tan color, slightly hazy, with a lovely amount of white head on top.

S: Some sweet strawberry coming through, but unfortunately there is a metallic, solvent smell that overwhelms everything. From what I can pick out the strawberries smell really fantastic, but the off aroma destroys it.

T: Oh what this beer could be. The first taste has a hint of solvent/plastic, followed by a nice crisp malt flavor, and a rich berry taste.. unfortunately after that there is another hit of solvent. This beer could really be amazing, but unfortunately the off flavors destroy much of the potential it had.

M: Light, crisp and dry. The carbonation is really active.

O: Overall I think this beer had so much potential, but because of the defect just was not up to snuff.

Shared at the End of the World party. Poured into a Kate the Great tulip.

A - A gusher if I ever saw one. This beer errupts but what was saved pours a nice hazy golden peach juice hue with a one finger head that left light sticky lacing.

S - Strawberries galore...then..whats this....plastic?! Oh godamnit. Why. Why. Why. Such glory at first followed by such fail.

T - Sigh. I really should just have "sigh" as the only descriptor for the taste. This beer, as I took my first sip, was wonderful initially. bright fresh strawberries and juice and jam and yes!! Then it happens, just as that flavour washes over my tongue it is absolutely decimated by bandaid flavors. This beer is akin to "chasing the dragon"...its like a drug which shall remain nameless in my review. That first sip is sky high euphoria and then each sip afterwards is just awful bandaid and rubber. But you keep taking a sip hoping to get a flash of that first high note...chasing the dragon.

M - Mouthfeel was decent. Would probably have been better if I could have enjoyed it through the taste. Not heavy or syrupy.

O - Overall this had so, so much potential only to fall so hard. Such a shame. Atleast I didn't have to drink a 750mL myself...

Thanks again to rudzud for sharing another Hardywood.

It erupts badly... wel not that bad actually, but erupted for sure. pours a light fizzy 1/4 finger head with no lacing, super hazy peach colored.

Nose is pure strawberry! Light yeast funk, a bit yeasty, light band aid and phenols that really get more and more as it goes unfortunately. The strawberry never fades and is great except the plastic goes exponential.

Taste initially hits with strawberry again, fresh fruit and lots of it, but then a quick second later it turns to pure terrible. Cardboard and oxidation at first, then plastic band aid next, and a light dusty dank shelf, it's offensibly terrible, it's like my mouth is having a party and throwing up all the strawberry margaritas in a trash barrel and eating all that together. There is a bitter strawberry tannic flavor too, like they forgot to remove teh fungicide from the strawberries, and a syrupy mess too. Bleh! What could have been a strawberry dream turned into a nightmare real fast.

The beer hits the worst part of my tasting pallete with a phenolic, plastic taste to it. The mouthfeel and smeel are ok, but the plastic taste is simply overbearing to me. I preferred the blackberry version of the wit and am interested to see what replaces the strawberry in 2013.

A - Pours with a small head of white foam on top of a lightly hazy, dark golden body. The head settles quickly and leaves little lace.

S - Subtle strawberry aromas with a bit of bready malt and light spice.

T - Soft malt up front with a juicy strawberry note. More fruit in the middle along with a touch of zesty spice and a a finish of bready malt, fresh fruit, and light tartness.

M - Medium thick body, high carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish,

D - Pretty good for what it is, but it is still a beer with a limited appeal for a beer geek. The strawberry a some through quite well in the flavor and manage to be robust without becoming syrupy or cloying, and that is really all that is happening it his beer. The fruit is clearly the focus and it is handled well, but trying it once is enough for me and I wouldn't want it again.

A: single finger rapidly dissipating head on a clear golden with slight copper hue body.

S: lots of strawberry as advertised which are pretty sweet with almost watermelon like too with candy sugar.

T: the strawberries are nicely applied initially without being too sweet. Towards the end they start to taste more like a fresh strawberry than just strawberry flavoring. they dominate the beer but that is the point.

M: light body and moderate to high carbonation. a bit dry.

Overall: for what it is I feel this one is certainly very good. I like the idea of local fruit with a base beer such as this one that isnt subtracting from the fruit flavors which also seem fresh as oppose to just artificial flavoring.
