2014 vintage, 750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass

A- pours a deep amber color with some ruby hue when held up to the light, creamy two-finger off-white head retains long after the pour, eventually leaving some lacing behind

S- lots of woodsy oak aroma dominates up front, not necessarily bourbon, but pure toasted oak. Berry-like sweetness mixes with some earthy hop, peppercorn and caramel malt

T- sweet and malty up front with flavors of caramel, red apples & red berries. Earthy and herbal hops kick in mid-palate with some spicy peppery notes and a hint of sour mash. The finish is very woody with flavors of pure toasted white oak and sawdust, lingers of vanilla and more wood

M- medium chewy body with moderate-low carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a chewy and creamy finish, alcohol warmth on the linger

O- mostly sweet and malty with lots of woodsy notes, but not so much bourbon. it all seems to mesh well though, I enjoyed this one

Very mellow but smooth with subtle fruit flavors. Goes down easy. Really like this a lot.

Appearance: Clear, copper color with one finger of soapy, off-white head that fades with spotty lacing.

Aroma: Fruity, hints of vanilla, some oak and some toffee. Fairly mellow overall.

Taste: Creamy, almost syrupy-sweet malt up front followed quickly by a real fruity funkiness. Grapefruit-pith bitterness builds over the funk and carries on into the lingering finish with some mild bourbon notes and alcohol.

The Rest: Very interesting. The Belgian yeast is very pronounced and lends a ton of character, but the barrel aging is pretty muted. Other than being a bit flat, this is really drinkable for over 9%.

Pours a clear golden-orange color with a tight, white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of oak, bourbon, and sweet malts with a bit of pine hops.

Tastes of the sweet malts with layers of bourbon and hops. Malts lead off with notes of caramel and toffee. This gives way to bourbon notes with vanilla and oak coming through. Hops come toward the end and add some citrus and pine. Finishes with lingering bourbon and hop notes.

Mouthfeel is medium with a somewhat light amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a nice take on a Belgian IPA, I just wish there were more hops to it.
