Best beer I have had from this brewery. Taste is big time raspberries, sweet and dark chocolate, cocoa, and roasted malt. Tastes like a raspberry cordial mixed with a stout. Excellent dessert beer that I will have to look for again.

Thin mouthfeel. Sweetness from the raspberries is nicely blended here. Complimentary rather than dominant. I can't say I am familiar with "the style" but this is an interesting and enjoyable infusion of rasberry into a stout. Definitely worth trying

Large shared bottle.
Pours thick and dark with nice reddish-brown highlights.
Aroma - lots of raspberry here; so much that this smmells more like a fruit beer than a stout.

Flavor: both dark grains and raspberry are obvious although the raspberry is the dominant flavor. Hints of chocolate, Sweet and bitter at appropriate levels.

Overall: a very fruit stout.

750 ml bottle, poured into a goblet

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color with a finger of chocolate-colored head that dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Wow! Very aromatic with tons of rich, earthy, bright, inviting aromas of bready, roasted malt, fruity raspberries and dark chocolate filling the air. Reminds me of freshly toasted dark bread topped with raspberry jam and a glass of chocolate milk! There are hints of brown sugar and caramel, too, but the predominate aroma is that of fruity raspberry and toasted malt. Delicious!

Taste: Wow! Exceptionally delicious! Tons of roasted malt up front, immediately followed by sweet/sour raspberries and dark chocolate, like a raspberry/chocolate truffle, as well as some brown sugar-like sweetness. Remarkable! I love this beer!

Mouthfeel: Chewy, creamy and smooth, as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 9.2%, there is just a hint of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Wow! What an exceptional beer! Strong flavors of roasted malt, semi-sweet raspberries and semi-sweet dark chocolate, all in perfect balance with equally perfect aromas and mouthfeel! A raspberry/chocolate truffle in a glass! This is another excellent offering from Hardywood, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite Virginia breweries! Highly recommended!
