Thanks to mrbubbler for sharing this one at his tasting.

2014 vintage. F.U.N. Series 009.

Pours a murky dark reddish-orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, bourbon, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop and wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has slightly better bourbon barrel aged qualities in the smell.

Serving type: bottle.

Tasting 9/9/14

Clown Lounge is a very cloudy, even thick, orange-red color with a bright flare in the body despite its thickness. The head, a yellow-tinted near-white, is a creamy and dense one that achieves roughly one finger's height and displays very good retention while managing some sturdy patching.
It's boozy all the way but not too heavily so, sometimes the downfall with these ambitiously spirit-aged beers and particularly DIPAs, for whatever reason. It's got a nice sweetness to it that doesn't take away from the bitterness, though it keeps it from being overhanded. The barrel shows well, bringing out the typical notes of wood (in this case some dryer, less raw and more refined oak-like notes) and vanilla. The bitterness is mainly citrus and piney with an oily resinous quality to it. It's balanced by the heat and sweetness of the barrel as well as its dryness, along with caramel and just enough fruity esters.
It flows nicely, a medium but almost full body showing off both crisp and smooth while running semi-dry.

Appearance is beautiful. Nice head.

You definitely smell the whiskey off of it and it is lovely!

Taste is Amazing! I was already a huge Rodeo Clown fan but this beer was pure liquid gold.

Overall if you are a DIPA lover, it is a must have/try. Luckily i still have a few stashed!

on tap in snifter at Carney's in Bryan, TX

L: caramel dark, opaque, off-white head ... not stick or lace

S: whiskey on top of caramel; very little bitter hoppy note, but the caramel could be coming from the big mix of hops; some oak wood but not burnt

T: crazy ... Rodeo Clown is super-caramely, but the barrel-aging seems to have completely sucked out that taste and replaced it with whiskey. definitely a whiskey burn but much more taste than burn; very dry

F: solid all around

O: I'm not the biggest fan of American DIPAs because I don't like the mango/caramel mushy hop-mix tastes ... but THIS is awesome! It really is like all of that caramel is replaced 1-to-1 with whiskey ... and honestly, I'm not tasting much else. It's like drinking carbonated Maker's Mark.

Bravo! again for Karbach and its F.U.N. series. A well-done batch!

22 oz bomber poured into snifter.

A: pours with a nice off white head. pretty good retention. about 2 fingers. Decent lacing at first.

S: smells delicious. I get bourbon on the nose as well as sweet malts. Some hops. a bit of resinous pine / fruits.

T: excellent. sweetness from the bourbon and malt. some fruity flavors come through. A nice lingering bourbon-y / bitter finish. Hops don't come through too much, but are there.

M: good mouthfeel. Not too thick. Carbonated appropriately for the style.

O: very good beer. glad I have another bottle. Wish it wasn't so expensive!

Again, seriously, not a single real review? Whatever. On tap at BRC in Houston. Their menu said this is 10.5% ABV. BRC's menu is not always correct, but that seems right.

A: Pours a murky reddish/orange color. A two finger white head forms, and recedes in a minute. Light lace is left behind.
S: Wood and vanilla up front. The barrel character is up front, but not in your face. The toasted and caramel malts of the base beer round everything out. Just a hint of bitterness lingers. Simple, and enjoyable.
T: The wood, vanilla, toasted malts and caramel all intermingle to make a great balanced offering. Nothing stands out, and everything is in check. Again, a bit of bitterness lingers.
M/D: A medium to full body. Moderate carbonation that is so smooth. Just a hint of warming alcohol that makes this really nice to sip on. The alcohol is obviously big, but really enjoyable.

I have always liked the base beer as a Barleywine, and not a DIPA. That base, Barelywine malty character with the subtle, but always noticeable barrel is great. Enjoyable is the word.
