Pours a pitch color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention is mild. Lacing is good. Toasted aroma with chocolate and cherries. Cherry aroma is a little bit on the medicinal side. Taste follows the same profile but more medicinal cherry at the end. It is a little much. Medium to heavy bodied with mild carbonation. Least favorite of the BBHs for sure.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep black color with a one finger creamy khaki head that has decent retention

S- roasted malt, chocolate, booze, sweet cherry, robitussin, licorice, light bourbon barrel

T- roasted malt and chocolate up front, followed by a sweet cherry flavor, which isn't tart like most cherry additions. Mid-palate gives some bourbon barrel notes, the finish gives more roasted malt and sweet cherry

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- nice cherry notes that lean on the sweet side

Appearance: Black glass shows some brown edges that show light though them. Has some legs, but holds a very thin halo of foam.

Aroma: Bourbon barrel alcohol and wood that has some char and hints of smoke, cherry skin, and a little malty base. Big and boozy.

Taste: Sweet malty base melds with the cherry before the bourbon and barrel notes settle in for a long finish. Big flavors, the cherry comes through nicely.

Mouthfeel: Heavy body, big chew, slight alcohol burn, oily finish.

Overall: A monster beer. I like it, I like it a lot. The wood note goes very smokey to me, which serves as the accent to all the malt more than hops do. As big as it is, it comes across clean, and smooth. Big beer, big price tag, all worth it.

A great beer to share, which is what I did with a bomber tonight. Great with grilled steak and salmon. Poured into a tulip glass. It has a deep, dark brown with a beige head and little lacing. Chocolate and fruity smell. The taste was rich with chocolate and cherries, with hints of coffee. Enjoyed it!

Dark brown with minimal head. Light cherry, leather, chocolate nose. Taste like chocolate covered cherries for the most part. A bit sweet. Feel is very porter.

No dating, 2016 bottle however.

A: Pours black with a very fizzy and loud dark brown head. Head dissipates quickly with no sign of lacing.

S: Big sweet cherries on top of caramel from the bourbon. Vanilla in there too.

T: Loads of caramel up front with sweet cherries overlayed. Toffee in the middle with vanilla and lingering cherries, now starting to be just a touch tart and sharp. Hints of chocolate and tart cherries (kinda like dark chocolate covered cherries) in the finish. Lingering cherries and bourbon between sips.

M: Heavy with a touch of stinging tartness.

O: Very nice brew. I think I like the normal BBH better just because it comes across smoother and easier drinking, this has a tartness and sharpness from the cherries. Don't get me wrong, it's still great and it adds a unique complexity.

Living in the great state of Texas - I'm always up for trying one of the many Texas brew - and this one appeared particularly interesting.
Pours a beautiful warm brown/gold, 1 fb of light brown head. Smells extraordinary - bourbon notes, vanilla, caramel, buttered popcorn. First sip - its a bourbon lover's dream - sweet malts forward, vanilla and woody notes, cedar, caramel and then mid to final note. . . semisweet dark cherry - and that becomes the dominant flavor with a lingering/cloying finish. Each additional sip - all you'll taste is the cherry - more like cough syrup than Three Philosophers or more classick belgian kriek.
Great brewery - they've got a lot of solid stuff - including the BBH without cherry - that are incredible. This one however, no bueno.

Not one of my favorite BBHs. Looks good, but the nose is subdued and the barrel character seems absent, although the cherries are about right. Mouthfeel is as good as usual. Overall, not the Budweiser cherry cola my brother jokingly predicted.
