Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
You are in a state of full Hop Delusion, but you knew what you signed up for when you popped this bottle. You knew that it had over 100 IBUs of hop bitterness and that it was dry hopped with insane amounts of Simcoe and Mosaic hops, but you chose to drink it anyway. It's difficult to say if you will ever snap out of it, for you have been smitten with the disorder that many can never overcome.

Born on 7-27-16, pours an effervescent amber with a thumb of cream colored head. Impressive head retention & lacing

S: Citrus & breadyness

T: Follows the nose, leafy hops as, some mango too up front. Leafy & catty hops combine with citrus as this warms, some honey malt as this warms. Finishes grassy with lime, grapefruit & a little pineapple, plus a kiss of herbal hops
MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, really nice balance

Well put together DIPA, would drink this often if I could. Karbach's hoppy stuff is super solid! The nose could be better. But given this is damn near 3 months old, I am impressed

$ 10.81 (Including tax)/4 pack ($ 0.225/oz) at Central Market (Gucci B), Alamo Heights, TX
Crafted on 7/27/16 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – The wonderful freshness of a coniferous forest, weakens somewhat over time
Head large (Maximum 6.3 cm, aggressive pour), off white, frothy, diminishing to an irregular four to eight mm ring and a partially heaped full layer
Lacing fair – frothy partial rings and an occasional frothy island
Body – orange, clear
Flavor – well balanced malt and hops, not what I was expecting from a DIPA. The hops appear on the exhale after a long swallow of liquid. A mild bitterness remains on the palate several minutes after consuming. No alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate medium, slightly oily, lively carbonation

A very good DIPA, more malty than expected, well balanced and probably sessionable. I have had other Karbach offerings (Hopadillo, El Hopadillo Negro, Three-Legged Lab) and found them to all be above average so there isn’t much surprise that Hop Delusion is pretty decent as well.

Appearance 4.25, Aroma 4.5, Flavor 4.25, Palate 4.25, Overall 4.5

Very slight hop aroma and flavor here. This is definitely a hop delusion on Karbach's part, since this is a total malt bomb, like almost every other Texas brewed double IPA.

I can only assume the good reviews are TX homerism.

Pours a light orangish golden color with white head. Dank, citrus, pine, and some malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied and sticky. Finishes with pine and malt.

I thought this beer would be too heavy for chilling by the pool on a hot Texas summer day - but you know what - I found this beer, when very cold in a can a coozie, brings about an incredibly enjoyable experience. The hops are very refreshing, and the beer finishes without that syrupy aftertaste that many Imperial IPA's tend to have. I would choose this over Karbach's Rodeo Clown Double IPA any time I want a strong beer experience with high ABV and IBU.

6/6 can opened 6/28

Appearance- deep orange, crystal clear with minimal head nice lacing

Aroma- citrus up front, followed by dankness and crystal malt at end

Taste- very sweet beer but not cloying. Reverse of the aroma with sweetness, dank then citrus in the back end. I like this as a nice change of pace from juicy iPas. Alcohol is slightly evident in after taste, but for 9.0 abv I am not shocked

Feel- light mouthfeel, sweetness takes over late

Overall- this is my first Karbach beer ( acquired in trade) so I did not have any expectations. I did really enjoy this beer. Reminds me a lot of dogfish 90 min. Not a beer u can session but a solid sipper
