Great Belgium IPA. Only rated it initially, and now it is retired, so cannot be reviewed. I wish this beer was still available. It definitely had a good Belgian flavor.

22 oz. bottle poured into a large snifter.

A: Pours a deep burnt orange color. Nice head. About 1-2 fingers worth. Fades slowly to a ring around the glass and a bit thin layer over the top. Decent lacing.

S: grapefruit, citrus, pine. very nice.

T: similar to the nose. grapefruit, pine, citrus, orange peel. I get a bit of bready-ness on the back end. At 7.5% alcohol this is no abv bomb, but the alcohol is masked well, none-the-less. Hop flavor lingers in the mouth

M: good mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Coats the mouth well, but not in the way that a stout would.

O: good beer. Decently priced for a bomber at 4.99 in specs. Look forward to drinking this again at the brewery.

A: Pours a clear golden/orange color. A two finger white head forms but recedes in a minute. Light lace.
S: A big orange and citrus aromas up front. Slightly bitter, though balanced with toasted and slightly sweet malts.
T: Up front is very citrusy and orange rind. Kind of juicy, and then the malts kick in. Bread, biscuit, sweet malt. Pretty standard overall.
M/D: A medium body and moderate carbonation. I wish it was a bit more crisp and dry. Not hard to drink. Though nothing I really care to come back to.

Not bad, just fairly ho hum. I'll take Hopadillo any day over this, and there is nothing Belgian about this. Just average.

22 oz. bomber poured into big tulip

L: caramel-orange with twinge of amber when held up to the light; nice fluffy head, full inch to 1 1/4-inch of off-white that sticks at the top.

S: lots of hops, but there's a little something different in it ... can't place it exactly; sweet; it's like a sweet malt smell muted heavily by a wheat smell that remains very subtle. as it warms up, I'm getting a slight sweet biscuit note, but the hops never die

T: fantastic hop bite that is balanced by a little passion/tropical fruit and some malt backbone; sweet; tons of hops and in Karbach lingo, it's a mix of Hopadillo (straight piney, citrus hops) and Rodeo Clown (loads of sweet malty, sweet Citra hops flavor).

F: loads of carbonation for a good crisp, clean quaff; solid midweight beer

O: love it. i couldn't begin to suggest what makes this a "Belgian" style brew ... it tastes much more like an American IPA with sweeter malt/Citra hops flavors that drag it away from the orange/grapefruit/pine styles and place it more in a balanced zone. it doesn't stand out as necessarily unique, but it *is* just a bit different from Karbach's other offerings. definitely worth a try.
