16-oz. can purchased from the brewery needed a very strong pour to get a thin, tan colored short lived head with scant lacing.
Deep dark brown color, reddish brown edges appear in front of light.
Sweet caramel malt ahead of roasted malt controls the smell with faint hops.
The taste begins with a semi-bitter roasted malt flavor which gives way to a semi-sweet caramel malty middle with citrus and plum fruitiness. Floral and herbal hops reintroduce bitterness yet the finish is clean and semi-sweet.
Light-medium bodied, enough carbonation despite the thin head. Alcohol is fiendishly hidden.
This was a happy revisit from last year. Enjoyed the ride of the taste profile; a little bitter, a little sweet, a little bitter again yet still kinda sweet. Smooth easy drinker, watch out.

On-tap 1/12/2014 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub, in Pawtucket, RI served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains maple, roasted malts, caramel and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of maple and caramel. Then a hearty malt character comes in. The hops presence is decent for the style and creates a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, strong kick, decent representation of style, this is a solid bigger brown ale worth drinking for a while.
