Quite possibly my favourite quad, surpassing Westy 12 and Abt 12.

On tap, pours a deep brown that is more chestnut when held up to the light. Nice tan head. Smell features dark fruits and spicy yeast. Just a great Belgian.

Effusive head. Dark, but only chestnut color. Mild smell. Delicious malty taste.

Brouwerij De Halve Maan 'Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel' @ 11.0% , served from a 330 ml bottle
A-pour is a dark brown from the bottle to a very dark amber in the glass with a large size tan head leaving a fine spotty lace along the chalice
S-hints of dark dried fruits
T-a big malty quad , something lacking
MF-ok carbonation , big full body
Ov-not a great beer for $8 and a small bottle

Thanks to Rug for sending me this gem.
Pours a deep garnet hue. Sandy head is both fluffy and milky. Light lacing.
Nose is rich. Deep brown bread notes, dates, toffee, a fruitiness that hints at port barrel, charred sugar and a light floral spice.
Flavor takes all of this and surges forward. Begins with a tempting blend of the deep, dark brown bread and the richer malt notes: dates, toffee, & caramel. Then a graceful transition to the dark fruit esters: prune, again a mild port note, and stewed apples that would be light on the cinnamon. Finally, the phenols bring a nuanced spice and hint of smoke.
Fairly active carbonation feel, medium heft, slightly dry, and gently warm.
Overall, this is one tempting Quad.

My trip to Chicago led me to stumble upon this Quad that I’ve heard much about but can never seen to find. I wasn’t even looking for it but I’m happy it was there. Let’s pop it open and see what it has to offer
Pours an opaque medium brown with 3 fingers of creamy light beige head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is pretty much what you’d expect from a Quad and I have no complaints. I’m picking up on aromas of red grape, brown sugar, dark bread, molasses, sweet caramel, milk chocolate, overripe banana, and a touch of leafy hops
It takes it to another level in taste, bringing in sweeter notes but balancing them well with the estery notes. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting red grape, brown sugar, caramelized pecan, milk chocolate, raisin, dark toast, overripe banana, light orange marmalade, and molasses. The swallow brings notes of black cherry, red grape, brown sugar, cola, sweet caramel, dark toast, vanilla, light milk chocolate, and clove
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry with a little boozy bite
This is a damn fine Quad. I hope I can find more some day

Pours a garnet brown with a thin white head. Smells of dark stone fruit and brown sugar. Flavor follows smell with the addition of some bittering hops and roastiness. Medium-full mouthfeel. Clean finish.

From draft. Was a brownish black. A thick foam which settled down. A medium, creamy mouthfeel. Not much aroma. Tastes delicious and balanced! Hides it's alcohol well. Mildly sweet, malty, a bit of chocolate syrup. Dare I say, a sessionable quad? Loved it.

This is a rich and welcoming and easy drinking quad. Although there is a ludicrous amount of frothy foamy head upon the initial pour, with strong retention, the beer eventually settles down to a smooth medium bodied feel, with some effervescence but happily avoids any fizziness. There is a hint of alcohol as is expected and welcome in this style and then there’s a rounded sweetness full of dark fruits and lively esters. Can’t believe I hadn’t had this one before, especially during a visit to Bruges but there you have it. This was a corked and caged 750ml. It would be interesting and instructive to contrast this bottle with the smaller four pack bottles now available. Nevertheless this exceeded my expectations and I’ll be back for more.

750 ml bottle into a goblet. Best by 6/16/23, had 9/2/22.
Pours a cloudy darker amber, with a one and a two inch creamy foam head with good retention and a good amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of malt, caramel, figs, some plums and grapes. Has a light floral aroma. Flavors of caramel, malt, figs, light plums and dates. Has a light floral hop bitterness. Smooth, a solid medium body, well carbonated on the high side.
A top level Quad. It’s a pretty classic interpretation, with expressive aromas and flavors. Well worth a purchase.

750ml bottle into a teku. Best by June 2023.
Superb looking drink. Almost black body with a strong tan head replenished by constant streams of carbonation. Malty and dark fruit aroma becomes stronger in the taste. Abv well nigh invisible. Excellent beer, aged to perfection.

I may have picked up a few bad bottles. Way too bitter at first but eventually the sweetness came through, no fruit or complexity at all. A big disappointment for me, especially at $6/bottle from a renowned brewery. I probably will never buy this brewery's beers again.
