October 28, 2017 long on the shelf but could not wait anymore of Brewery De Halve Maan the Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel; Full sweet juicy plums with a touch of dark bitter roast of chestnuts in short the full quadruppel taste just on the edge of guarantee but could have allowed a bit longer to ripen

My first taste of a Belgian Quad was the best beer experience of my life thus far. This will be a style I will be happy to explore further! So, it will be difficult for me to compare this beer to others like it since I've only had two different kinds. The look was a dark brown with excellent head, carbonation and lacing until the very end. Smell was sweet and earthy...very pleasant aroma. The taste was somewhat sweet, fruity and burnt sugar and toasted barley with only a hint of hoppy bitterness. Nice coating in the mouth feel. Lingering pleasant flavors. A fine experience!

It pours very dark brown with frothy tan head. There are nice retention and lacing.
Smell is saying this is a belgian quad! Plum, caramel, toasted bready malt and and spices.
Very complex taste of dark fruits, molasses, wood and peppery phenols.
Sticky texture. Lively on the palate, very well carbonation. Warming and dry finish.
Flawless quadrupel; delicious, intense and warmer.

Pours a dark ruby tinged brown color. Opaque even to the light. Thick pillowy tan head dissipates slowly but steadily to a thin layer of velvety foam on top of the beer. Foamy tan lacing is left behind.

Smell has notes of dark fruits, red wine, bready malts, and some tart cherries.

Taste follows the nose with dark fruits, red wine grapes, red wine, tart overly ripe cherries, with a bready malt backbone. Some oak and tannin notes are also there. Dry grassy hops are noted on the finish.

Feel is medium bodied, fizzy carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall a very nice Quad - similar to a Belgian strong dark ale - but well crafted either way.

Poured from bottle at the brewery in Brugges. Pours a dark brown (almost black) with nice carbonation. Head retention was good. Nose is plum, barley, caramel, bread. Taste is sharp, tad sour, oak, bread, toffee. Really nice beer. Mouthfeel was nice and creamy.

A - Hazy brown pour, just a finger of head that stuck around.
S - Cherries, plum, raisins.
T - Honey, figs, cherries still.
M - Full bodied with a good amount of roastiness, high amount of carbonation.
O - This is a great quad. Maybe a little much for everyday drinking, but it's great for aging. Like others, I think the carb is too high, but that doesn't affect an otherwise almost perfect quad.

The aroma has a big boosey and fruity character and the flavor brings loads of dank earthy malt dark fruits, figs, dates, raisins, plums and rum like sweet booze!

Bottle at the brewery. Aroma was fruity and boozy. Noticeable booze in the flavor but also dark and fruity on the tongue. Actually a very nice beer to have sitting outside the brewery for a couple hours and only 4€
