Dark brown with a thick, foamy, light tan head that stays and clings to the glass. The aroma is dark fruits, malt and burnt sugar sweetness. The taste follows the aromas and the main flavors are dark fruit, cherries, burnt sugar and a quite strong bitterness. The mouthfeel is a little too carbonated but also creamy. Not a bad quad but for me the carbonation and bitterness are a little too much.

There should be a rating for label. If there was I'd give this a 4.35. Classy Moon-face Beardo on a tasteful black background. Weird font. This label says "sophisticated" and "for beardos"

Head: massive foamy head. poured it a while ago and it's not easing up
Nose: the usual assortment of quad aromas (cherry raisins malt)
Feel: a little too bubbly for my liking
Taste: delicious! though the alcohol lingers a bit too long

I can't lie, I've rarely met a quad I didn't like. I definitely enjoyed this one, esp. as it warmed.

Tasted in a 9 oz snifter from draught at Firkin on December 31, 2015. Look is dark brown with a thick tan head and lingering lacing. Smell is dried dark fruit, spice, dark cocoa, brown sugar and toffee aromas. Taste is dried dark fruits, black pepper, bitter dark chocolate and hints of molasses.
Feel is medium in body with light carbonation and a long dry finish.

330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip.

A: Very dark, opaque. Large thick tanned head, reasonable retention, left a bit of lacing.

S: Prune, grape, candy sugar, molasses.

T: Followed the nose, added a touch of sour woody bitterness reminiscent of a red wine, gave the impression of following on from a dubel, hid the booze like it was something to be ashamed of.

M: Creamy texture, light feel for the strength.

O: First beer in a long time where the first sip has made me sit up and take notice, seriously good.

L:dark mahogny.,a thick creamy head when I pour in the glass.
S:spices. Dark fruits like dates . plums and figures . burnt sugar . yeast alcohol.
T: dark fruits . candi sugar . coffee and malts. Well balanced bitterness in this brew.

F:full bodied with low carbonation. Gives a sour mouthfeel that I liked. The high alcohol contest quite noticeable. Gives almost immediately a warming feel.
O: A very interesting beer and very enjoyable. I was suprised over how well made it was. And I am eager to try the other beers from this brewery.

On tap at the brewery on 9/11/15. Big dark brownish tan body. Tons of Deep toffee flavor. Slightly spicy up front, but finishes with a nice dark fruits/dates taste.

Served in a chalice glass from an 11.2 oz bottle.

Appearance: Brown Amber cold with medium nun les on the body, head is somewhat thick which comes to an off-white color. Even lacing drops to nada after a few sips.

Smell: Hops and coffee scent, super light.

Taste: Tastes way better than it looks and smells. Might go down as a classic. Raisins and coffee with notes of honey. Very complex with light yeast.

Mouth: leaves a little sour feel in the mouth, like rye bread. Still very good.

Overall: You know when you expect nothing and get everything that is this brew. Wasn't expecting much and honestly I got a lot on just flavor alone. Worth sharing, maybe...depends on who's on the other side of the table, Salud!

The beer pours out into a Duvel glass a nice dark mahogany color with a 1/2" fluffy tan head and lots of lacing. Sipping creates patches and legs of lacing, some of which cling to the glass While the head recedes fairly soon there is a persistent layer of foam on the surface throughout the beer and is enough to create sheets of foam when sipping.

The aromas include dark orchard fruits similar to plum, prune and dark cherry. There's also a bit of raisin along with a touch of spices and what seems to be a bit of dark chocolate.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose. e.g., the dark fruits, along with a touch of spice but with a bit of black pepper in there as well. In the background there's the light touch of chocolate and a bit of dark molasses. The alcohol is well concealed in this beer so while there's a warming effect there's no burn.

The mouth feel is on the full side of medium bodied and has a light touch of carbonation. The finish is relatively long and begins as the fruit flavors recede to allow the touch of, chocolate, black pepper and dark molasses to emerge. Eventually the finish just fades away leaving some dryness in the back of the upper palate.

Overall this seems a well made beer and an excellent example of the style. There's a complex set of flavors and aromas coming and going throughout the beer. It's nicely drinkable and the complexity invites another sip to try and sort out all that's going on here. I'm pleased that I've three more in the basement to try out a bit of aging with this beer.

I really liked this quad. Rich foam head that hung in there. Complex flavor that were hard to pin point. Makes it a bit "mysterious". Belgian yeast and roasted malts.
