Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel pours a clear mahogany color. The head is a billowy two inches in height, and recedes very slowly leaving think, chunky lacing. This is a really good looking beer. The aroma is quite estery with some nice dark spices. Star anise, all spice and cardamom. There are also some plums and dates in the background. It is all a little subdued for the style though. The taste has a little more punch, but is still on the milder side stylistically. It is more balanced between the fruits and the spices which I think is a very good thing. The mouthfeel is full bodied with a chewy texture, and appropriately lively carbonation. Overall, this is a quality Belgian quad that I would happily drink again. I wouldn't call it earth shattering, but it is doing the trick for me as I type this review.

Purchased at Lekkerbier for 2.20 euros. Pours dark brown in glass with large head, leaving lacing. Taste is malty, with hints of coffee and Chocolate. Nice carbonation. Quite drinkable. Will likely try this again.

This fine quad pours from the 750 ml bottle in a snifter with a dark ruby tinged mahogany color with a nice head
of off white foam that settles to a thick ring, solid fine layer, and light lacing. Nose of brown sugars, light breaded notes,
cherries, light herbal notes, toffee, and plums. Flavors exceed the nose with brown sugar touched baked bread notes
with subtle light licorice and dark fruit notes of plum and cherries on the back. A subtle floral hop note hits on the
finish with a touch of pepper that sears into a nice warming booze. Substantial and full mouth feel, sweet and lightly bitter on the aftertaste
from malt and light herbal notes of coriander.

Excellence from the home of great ale.

Cheers

Look: It pours dark brown with a light brown low head.

Smell: It has aromas of cherries, rich malt, raisins, alcohol, and low chocolate.

Taste: It has rich malt flavors and fruit. The flavors include cherries, alcohol, low vinous qualities, yeast, sugar and raisins.

Feel: It has a full body that is somewhat chewy. It has a sweet and moderately bitter finish.

Overall, this is a fantastic example of a Belgian dark strong ale with plenty of aroma and flavor that works well together.

L: Pours really thick with a nice, protein-rich head. Extremely dark brown but allows a deep red/ruby color to pass through when held up to the light. Really great looking beer

S: Not that impressive. Expected a more robust, pleasant nose from this beer but got a pretty faint aroma.

T: Really tasty beer, lots of dried fruit, plum, heavy malt kick. Powerful alcohol kick when swishing around in the mouth, but not unpleasant. Really tasty.

F: pretty thick and oily, decent aftertaste.

One of the best. Well hidden ABV and a highly drinkable creamy texture with the sweet malts not overpowering anything else. Very balanced and enjoyable quad that's up there with the best in my opinion.

A very good quad. I was surprised to find this. ABV% is well masked, pours almost a pitch black & has a great malty taste. Very little head and an easy drink!

Pours an almost clear, deep, rich brown with beautiful garnet/ruby highlights when held to the light, producing 1.5 fingers of tan, finely bubbled, rapidly dissipating head that leaves little lace. Aroma is Belgian yeast, dark bready malt, toffee, brown sugar, fig, prune & raisin, dried apples, roasted notes & only a hint of alcohol. Taste is rich dark bread, dark fruits of all kinds including dark dried cherries, dried apples, a thin grape hint, toffee & molasses, a little Belgian yeast mustiness, pepper, spice (especially cloves), faint banana with alcohol considerably heavier than in the nose but still remarkably subdued for an 11% ABV. Finishes with a nice wet/dry balance and a pungent hint. Aftertaste is burnt dark bread, dark fruit, a little bitterness with the pungent hint of the finish becoming more prominent & lingering long. Alcohol bitterness, spice & warmth becomes more prominent as the brew warms. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied with medium-high carbonation, peppery, creamy but chewy with some astringency in the aftertaste. Smells & tastes heavenly, full bodied & filling but highly drinkable especially for the ABV. Abundantly complex.
