Pours a ruby brown with the slightest of heads. Little retention and lacing. When the light hits this one it is beautiful. The smell is true to quad, dark fruits, yeast, and in this case hints of oak. The flavor is unbelievable, with a slight sour cherry and port jumping into the usual quad flavors of dark fruits, yeasts and spices. The barrel has had a positive impact on this beer, it has made the beer so easy to drink, much smoother than most quads. Feel is medium full and good carbonation.

A very nice beer. I can safely say this is among the best quads I have ever had.

Poured (just under cellar temperature) from a corked and muzzled bottle (2015 Vintage, Bottle# 04677...Armagnac Oak Aged) into a Straffe Hendrik stemmed goblet

A - Classic looking Quadruple. The beer pours a deep, dark mahagony (note: with light directed behind the glass, the color of the beer is much more ruby red) color with a full, 2-fingers of a creamy kakhi colored head with great retention considering the barrel aging and hefty 11% ABV. (5.0)

S - Aroma is huge, containing notes of Oak, Vanilla, Brandy, Port, Grand Mariner, a bit of Chocolate and a whiff of alcohol. It is interesting to note that Brandy (of which both Armagnac and Cognac are) is distilled from wine of white grape varities, yet the resulting spirit would never suggeset it. (5.0)

T - An explosion of all those aromas coat the palate with Oak leading the way followed by Brandy, Port and Carmel from the base beer. The intensity, yet harmonious collision of flavors between beer, barrel and spirit make for a true degustation beer. Even after room to (and past) room temperature, the alcohol remains restrained. (4.75)

M - Medium-Full mouthfeel. Lively carbonation scrubs the palate clean and finishes with some alcohol vapors to further dry the mouth. A noticable, yet unoffensive alcohol warmth is felt in the chest after each sip. (4.75)

O - Although it ranks in my 'Top 10' favorite beers consumed during my time in Belgium, this is best best enjoyed in small doses. A 75cl bottle is a bit much for one person but I took the challenge in support of Belgian Beer Culture. Unfortunately, it is only available at the brewery but the 14Euro (~$18USD) price tag is well worth it. Highly Recommended if you get the opportunity to visit Huisbrouwerij De Halve Maan (in and of itself, the tour is well worth it!). (5.0)

I feel as if I want to bathe in this beer. I'm not an alcoholic, but I enjoy drinking a damn good beer! Something about it.

A - gives off this bready almost malt like characteristic that I can't explain. Then again it is barrel aged. Loves!

T - Is a true Belgian through and through. Only way to put it. You can tell it's over 9% ABV. Its body is mediumish? If that makes sense and I hope it does.

O - Make up the pool because daddy wants to swim in this. If there ever was a beer to bathe in. If someone asks I've gone swimming.

2013 vintage.
Had it not been for the good amount of carbonation, it could almost have been as much wine as beer. Cork came out with a loud pop. Heavy plum aroma and a slight sour note that integrated well with the maltiness and soft oak. Likely the best Quad I've ever had.

Fig, a ton of candy sugar, red berry, bubblegum, and an anise ending. 3.75
Medium, fizzy, some cling. 3.75

2014 vintage.

Thin for a quad. Not getting much oak, either. Smooth enough, though, and no burn. Decent. 3.75

Vintage 2012 Bottle No.15495. Dark brown with reddish reflection combed with a fluffy, creamy beige head. Aromas of caramel toasted malt, woody notes, dark dried fruits, little spice, hint of vanilla. Medium to high sweetness, not too bitter just perfectly balanced, full body, despite the 11% this quad has a high drinkability with a very long pleasant aftertaste, hint of warm alcohol feeling going down the throat at the end as well. Sublime beer.

2013 edition - utterly fantastic beer. I'm a little wary of barrel-aged Belgian quads as I've had some (St. Bernadus 12 Oak Aged, Gulden Draak brewmasters, La Trappe oak aged) that haven't offered much improvement on the already excellent base beers and to me haven't justified the extra cost. This is a different case, with a boozy nose and hints of barrel highlighting a rasiny, malty-smooth backbone with a refreshing crispness going down. Hopefully I'll find this again as my joy in drinking it tempered by sadness knowing it will soon be gone... It's that kind of beer!

2013 Edition

A: Poured into a DFH snifter to a deep brown with some ruby highlights topped by a finger of dense light tan head that fades to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of dark fruits, toffee, spices and oak.
T: Taste is dark fruits and oak with some vanilla and red berries, slight toffee and spice with a lot of esters. Very interesting flavors so far. Slight toasted bread and oak. Swallow is dry and oaky with some hints of chocolate and dark fruits with some lingering spice.
M: This beer is fairly full in body with a smooth mouthfeel. Carbonation is soft and just slightly prickly with a dry finish.
O: Overall this is a very interesting beer. It has great flavors and complexity as well as some very well hidden alcohol. This one is very good and it's a very nice twist on the style. Slightly pricey but worth the cost of admission.

L: Dark brown color, one finger light brown head, superb lacing, loads of carbonation.

S: Very smooth aroma, sweet, raisins, oak.

T: Amazing, smooth, oak, raisins, sweet, with a light touch of warming alcohol on the back end. Heaven.

F: So much carbonation and yet so smooth and silky. Incredible.

O: World class beer. The second best quadrupel after Westvleteren 12.

On tap at the brewery. Brown color with tan head. Aroma is really complex with caramel, dark fruits like cherries and red berries, a slight fermented not and also oak barrel. Taste starts with sweet fruits and brown sugar, gets slightly tart and fruity in the middle and finishes with some slightly bitter burnt sugar and wood notes. Medium to full bodied with smooth mouthfeel. Really good quad with complex taste and nice barrel characteristics.

750 ml bottle into a chalice glass. 2012 edition, bottle #11091, I think.

Pours a dark ruby, cloudy, with about a one finger head and some foamy lacing. The smell is awesome- malt, plums, raisins, figs, some oak, dark grapes, light cherries, a red wine aroma. The taste is a little more malt forward, plums, prunes, figs, raisins, dates, caramel, oak, some cherries, light wine. Great stuff. Very smooth, full bodied and satisfying, well carbonated.

Might be my favorite Quad. Whatever year you can get, grab this one. It's pricey, but well worth the purchase. Had the 2013 on tap- so lucky for that- about a year ago, and rated it a 4.48.
