like old chubs grand daddy, this scotch ale is about twice as big in body and overall flavor intensity. the peat smoked malt here is divine, and its enormous, running all the way through the beer. what i like about this one compared to other beers in the style is how dry it is. sweet residual grain sugars are not relied upon to make it tasty, it cleans right up despite being gigantic in flavor and stature. earthy dirty and malty, with some chocolate malt cocoa notes in there and a bit of roast to go with the peat. almost like a single malt here, it really has a lot of that character. feathery soft in the tongue, no alcohol sting at all, and a really loaded body that gets filling quick. i think its an impressive beer on the whole, mostly due to its dry finish. i always say this, but i wish oskar blues would package some of this stuff and make it more available. this is medal worthy i think in its style category.

A-Pours true brown. Small sample limits much more dissection of the appearance.

S-Traditional Wee Heavy aroma but with an infusion of a smoked, single malt peat aroma.

T-Sweet with a loaded lineup of brown sugar, molasses and burnt up caramel. It's also noticeably smoky. Single malt with a chewy caramel cube. Peated.

M-Big, thick and hot. Lingering flavor and feel.

O/D-Didn't love it.
