Old Chub NITROOld Chub NITRO

Brewed by:
Oskar Blues Grill & Brew
Colorado, United States

Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
OLD CHUB NITRO takes you deeper into the rich, malty flavors of the original brobdingnagian Scotch Ale, while the nitrogen widget liberates a cascading, uber-silky smooth oral experience only the CAN provides. This jaw-dropping Scottish strong ale (6.9% ABV) is brewed with bodacious amounts of malted barley and specialty grains, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malt. Old Chub Nitro features semi-sweet flavors of cocoa and coffee, and a wee-bit of smoke. A head-turning treat for malt heads and folks who think they don’t dig dark beer.

I knew this was going to be a big beer. From the time I poured it out of the can.
There was a strange situation, that happened with me and all the others that tasted it that night. When we poured it, there was a big nice heard, a dark clear bottom, but a hazy cloudy middle. But within a few seconds, that cloudy haze turned into the dark clear bottom. Very strange.

Personally, I think the nitro boost distracted from this beer. It made it a bit too smooth and creamy. I remember this one from the variety pack before it was Nitrod and the overall appeal of this Scottish ale was better.

Appearance was amazing on this beer - as soon as I tipped the can to the glass my hand was posses with something just telling me to pour hard - just let er rip ! The result was that awesome nitro effect I've only seen while pouring out left hand nitro milk stout - that brown zebra over black brew - fizziness just fun to look at

Smell is smooth not too offensive. Malts, caramel, toffee , snickers bar, and a lil bit of coffee

Taste is a real treat. Malty with bittering hops to balance it out - toffee and a lil bit of Sumatra coffee -

Mouthfeel is a bit thin with the head of this beer meeting your lips to make this taste like a milkshake - I almost wanna use a straw!

Overall this was an upgrade of regular chub! Ima seek this one out whenever it hit - this beer is a homerun right over the short porch -

On nitro, this is a sweet, creamy, smooth, tasty malt bomb. This caramel colored beer, with a fine minimal head smells inviting. It is sweet, has a faint caramel taste, and a nice mushy, silky mouthfeel.

For me, the nitro does wonders for this beer. I normally don't appreciate Scotch ales, but this one on nitro is worth my time.
