Notes: This porter (6.4% ABV, 30 IBUs) is based on malt flavors of roasted nuts, crème brulee, cocoa, and caramel, extracted from English and German roasted and caramel malts. Hotbox Roasters then crashes the party and infuses potent, cold-extracted coffee from Burundi and Ethiopian beans and deals out flavors and aromas of dark plums, chocolate, and hints of blueberry.

Served on nitro tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a very dark brown color with a lighter cascade of tan colored bubbles streaming through the brew to produce a tan colored head. Being a nitro pour, the head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave rings of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is rather strong of a coffee and roasted malt smell mixed with some very light cocoa and toast notes. Along with these smells comes a little bit of molasses and caramel and a hint of a nuttiness.
Taste – The taste begins, as one may expect from the nose, with a decent hit of roasted malt and a moderate coffee flavor. There are some light dark chocolate and moderately sweet flavors of caramel and brown sugar upfront, which grow just a hint stronger as the taste advances forward. All the while, the coffee and roast are joined by some toast and smoke flavors. At the end, some of the nut and a smoke that were detected in the nose, as well as a little bit of dark fruit, come to the tongue to leave one with a dark and roasty, semi-sweet, and smooth coffee flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – Being a nitro pour the body of the brew is silky and creamy with a thicker feel. For the roasted coffee and semi-sweet chocolate flavors of the brew the feel is great and creates a soothing mouth coating feel.
Overall – A very tasty and dangerously smooth coffee porter. Rather well done and great on nitro.

Stovepipe into an English pub glass.

Burly, marshmallow-thick, frothy and sudsy head. And tons of it. Oatmeal and khaki in color. Pitch black body with lighter brown hues. 5

Coffee and cream aroma with some light vanilla, sweetness and notes of dark fruit. 4

Begins tasting like an English porter with bread and caramel malt flavor and a floral piece to it. Mid-tongue some roasty cold brew coffee flavor enters and develops a coffee and cream flavor. As I drink more of the brew it becomes more and more like cold brew coffee sans ice and it reminds me quite a bit of another beer I enjoy quite a bit: Surly Coffee Bender. 4

Light-bodied and easy-drinking, I can see how some might criticize the thinness, but I appreciate how it works here. Plus, there's still plenty of creaminess and smoothness and light bitterness that works well. 4

This beer is pretty on point. Very enjoyable and easy to throw back. Great coffee flavor meets easy-drinking but still rich porter. Very well done.

This beer definitely looks the part. The coffee aroma in this (taste as well) is absolutely perfect. If most coffee stouts had this, they would be lifted to a new level. I want a coffee Ten Fidy! The base porter is an extremely well executed beer as well.

This beer pours an extremely dark brown almost black color with a 3 finger frothy light mocha head. There is excellent retention and some spotted lacing. Smell is rich bitter coffee, chocolatey roasted malts and a touch of smokiness. Taste is the same, but more chocolate than the smell would lead you to believe. A nice bitter bite, but also a good amount of sweetness. Feel is medium and creamy. Overall quite a nice beer although I slightly prefer Death by Coconut.

Canned on 1/27/16. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours black with a chunky dark khaki head that slowly fades leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are full of cocoa malts. The coffee notes are very faint and subtle. The flavors have alot of chocolate notes. Some chocolate syrup in the mix. The coffee is there, but doesn't really standout. Slightly sweet. The alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice and fluffy. Smooth and easy to drink.

This is a solid porter, but the coffee doesn't seem to shine.

12 oz can was poured into a nonic glass.

Appearance: A one finger mocha head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pitch black color with no vision of anything. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Roasted coffee, toasted, milk chocolate, caramel, earthy, and old ale.

Taste: Nice coffee flavor, milk chocolate, toasted, roasted, old ale, and a little chewy.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, light bodied, medium carbonation, a little chewy, and light light bitterness.

Overall: Nice coffee porter. A little more smoke/ash flavor would be nice.

Poured a deep deep redish brown color with a fluffy tan half inch head. Very good retention and lacing. The smell had nice dark chocolate aroma upon the first sniff, then coffee and some sweet caramel like hints. The taste had much more coffee, with just a slight hint of the chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium to light, pretty close to style guidelines, with a pretty dry finish and nice carbonation. Overall, what a great Sunday morning coffee replacement!

S - Mocha, chocolate, and coffee beans.

T - Coffee and mocha from start to finish with some coffee cream.

M - Medium body and a little watery on the back end.

O - A good coffee porter, not my favorite, but solid.

Poured into grip shaped goblet: color is brown-black, tan head presents 1/2 inch thick and then dissipates to thin solid top, good lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is light toasted malt, some roast, then overtaken quickly by coffee aromas of toffee, nuts and light bitterness.

Taste is similar with mild toasted malt, light roast and then strong flavors of cold infused coffee - toffee, fruit, nuts and bitter notes.

Mouthfeel is a little to clean and leaving a bit to be desired, leans more towards iced coffee without much backing sweetness, just clean coffee flavor and then lightly dry finish.

Overall a good beer, but I want more porter flavor out of this than is presented

Good coffee flavor in the beginning, but strange after taste later. Almost reminded me of buffalo sauce, even though I wasn't eating anything. Not likely to try again.

Dark brown color with two fingers of head that had good retention before settling to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass. Rather timid aroma for a coffee beer which in my experience brewers really make sure you know that coffee is in the beer. In this beer it is more of complimentary characteristic to the chocolate and bready malt. The coffee is not the top player in the flavor either. A nice robust porter base with notes of chocolate, graham cracker, dark bread, mild fruity esters, and some earthiness. The coffee compliments the dark malt with flavor and mild bitterness. Not the fullest of bodies but has nice carbonation that allows the beer to coat the palate while also giving it some life.

For my personal tastes I would of liked the coffee to play a predominant role but I do still find this to be a very good beer.

Black beer with a nice dark tan head that leaves bands and sheets of lacing. The smell is an amazing combination of coffee, cream, roasted malts, dark chocolate and hints of blueberries. The taste is all of this with the blueberry appearing first followed by the sweet coffee and cream and the bitter chocolate arriving at the end. The combination of fruitiness with the coffee and chocolate is amazing and all comes together in a very complex beer.
