Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) can into a custom taster pint; canned 04/09/19, code MAD HOPS YO!
A: Pours a slightly hazy, dark golden color with a two plus finger, off-white head, cap retention, and limited, soap sudsy lacing.
S: Fruity with aromas of caramel, pineapple, nectarine, and tangerine. Fairly grainy.
T: Semidry. Flavors largely follow the nose. Bitterness much less bitter than is characteristic of Oskar Blues brews. Lingers as a subtle bitterness on the tongue.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Nice aroma and flavor. Would certainly have it again or recommend it. Really nice: best OB IPA i have tried.

Oskar Blues Brewery "Can-O-Bliss Tropical IPA"
12 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 12/14/[email protected]:25 KACHOW!"
$2.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Look: Cloudy golden orange body with a bit of an orange sheen beneath a finger-thick head of rocky surfaced foam. Better than average head retention but only average lacing.

Smell: Tropical with orange, pineapple, peach, citrus rind, mango, melon, and berries but also pungent and a bit "dank" with hop resins.

Taste: As the aroma suggests, this is hoppy beer with the malt simply acting as a springboard for the hops. Unfortunately the hops don't come on as strong in the flavor as the aroma suggests they might. Everything is there and perhaps a bit more (apricot, lemon zest, soft white pepper, grapefruit, papaya) but it comes across lightly. A solid bitterness balances it and it finishes dry but it doesn't feel overdone at all.

Feel: Medium-light in body and delicately crisp.

Overall: The promise of a "Can-O-Bliss" isn't exactly carried through to the end but I see where they're going with it. It's a decent tropical IPA that borders on becoming "juicy" while still remaining an old school IPA but done with modern hops. I wouldn't turn this one down. The only disappointment, other than that the aroma surpasses the flavor, is that the head retention and lacing aren't quite what they should be.

Can at Old Chicago. Canned December 12th.

Pours a hazy orange yellow with a good head of foam and lacing.

Tropical fruit nose..mango, grapefruit, citrus, hoppy but doesn't smell bitter.

Taste is very pleasant tropical fruit, mango, grapefruit, maybe orange zest, low bitterness, very nice mouthfeel.

Look - canned on 2/4/19, and poured into a pint glass. Large amount of head, with about a one-finger lacing retention. Beer is hazy and lemon yellow in color.
Smell - a blast of tropical notes. Citrus (mostly grapefruit), tropical fruits (pineapple dominant, some mango as well), and light maltiness. This one smells like it is going to be very tasty. Some sweetness.
Taste - did not disappoint. Tropical fruit flavors dominant in the flavor, with a balance of sweetness from the malts and a bite from the hoppiness, though not overly bitter. Residual hoppiness that lingers for quite some time.
Feel - medium-bodied, below average carbonation, and packs a decent punch at 7.2% (though very drinkable)
Overall - a solid tropical style IPA. Great complexity, and really, really flavorful. Very enjoyable overall

12 oz can, canned on 12/17/18, labelled hydro-tropichops. Pours murky orange yellow with a small creamy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet tropical fruit juice with some light resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet fruit with some grainy malt and a resiny ashy hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is a bit watery.

Overall, an OK NE IPA.

Pours a flat head lemon yellow haze. Smells of strong tangerine and grass with hint of pine. Tastes extremely citrusy with a malty backbone. Feels smoother than I thought it would with a very nice hop finish. Solid tropical IPA I’ll buy again. Better than Stones tangerine express

A - Hazy medium gold colored pour with sticky white lacing.

S - Nice pungent bright citrus aroma: red grapefruit, passion fruit, some light fruit rind spice.

T - Spicy pungent citrus from start to finish. Ends fruity and balanced with just a hint of bitterness. There is a little bit of sugar cloying on the very back end which sort of wrecks the experience (IMO).

M - Medium body with a soft texture.

O - Solid but don't care for the sugary presence on the back side of the finish.

The demand for tropical fruit flavor in IPA is at an all-time high. Hell bent on quenching that thirst for hop heads has Oskar Blues going to extremes in both hops and haze with a Mosaic, Azacca, Galaxy, El Dorado and Idaho 7 hop drenched taste.

Hazy gold with an amber depth, the translucent ale sheds a creamy off white froth to appease the eye while an emboldened scent of tropical fruit, lighter citrus, candied and perfumy scents create a potpourri of all-things-fruit punch. A rich maltiness of honey and caramel come with a rounded smoothness of pastry dough and shortbread.

But the story is about the hops as the burst of tropical fruit impressions overtake the patient malts for a candied and honey dipped taste of mango, papaya, pineapple, kiwi, passionfruit and gooseberry with a stone fruit support of apricot, peach and dates. Even a show of pink grapefruit, orange and lime bring a citrusy set of complexities with a late palate fueled by a smooth bitterness of chive, hemp and green tea.

Medium bodied and trending slightly drier and more bitter than standard New England styled IPA, a refreshing and highly drinkable taste of fruit cocktail comes with a spike of botanical gin, fresh spruce and spicy resins for a final taste of tropical fruit rinds that extend into a medium long aftertaste.

12oz can, canned on 01/11/19. Served in a tulip glass.

Appearance: Translucent golden yellow with just a hint of amber. Massive thick off-white head with lots of persistent lacing.

Smell: Lots of citrus and tropical fruit. Orange, pineapple, papaya, and with a swirl, something a bit more pungent.

Taste: Citrus again, definitely more like citrus juice than the bitter rind. Fresh cut orange, grapefruit, pineapple. Malt covered by the hops - a little bit of underlying sweetness, but hop dominating. Lightly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, smooth with a bit of citrus juice-like character. Some stickiness on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: This one may not be as perfectly fresh as it was when first canned in January, but it has lived up to its label of a juicy tropical IPA. I'm normally used to beers from Oskar Blues being "Hop Candy" with plenty of malt sweetness to go with the hops. This one is more hops than malt, so a digression from what I'm used to. Still, a tasty beer, but one is enough.

Straw yellow to light copper in color with a hazy complexion. There's a fingernail of dishwater white on top. Light, soapy lacing is present. The aroma is of faint pineapple along with mango and melon. I'm tasting melon and unripe banana. The mouth is lightly sticky and crisp.

A: Pours a loose half finger head. Color is hazy light apricot

S: So much grapefruit! Mango, passionfruit, citrus, lemon, just fruits galore. Nice blend of hops

T: Less fruity than the smell would indicate. The hops come in waves, highlighting a different breed each time. Ends with a tingling sensation and leaves a bitter reminder.

O: Smooth while still having a good bite.

12 oz. Can
Canned On: 12/17/18

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice cloudy yellow color, with some pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which also leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, guava, mango), nice diesel like. The taste is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, guava, mango), nice diesel like. Medium body, ABV is hidden nicely, with a dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Very nice price for a sixer $7.99.
